When The Going Gets Tough/ (Go And Get Stuffed)

If you having a tough time, then I suggest fresh vegetables!
What can be better than peppers from your own garden? Ours have turned out very well this year.  Before I cooked them for our dinner (stuffed peppers) I thought I would take a photo of them for you...

The top two were the ones that were stuffed, the red one and the two banana peppers went into a salad! (None of the peppers are hot, I don't do HOT!)
Now, the reason for the title of this post?
As I was preparing this meal, it reminded me of something funny from "Top of the Pops" from 1985.  (Note...Top of the Pops was a British TV show about the top musical pop hits, it's not around any more, more's the pity!)  There was a hit song from a popular movie, "The Jewel In The Nile" and the title of the song was "When The Going Gets Tough".  Funny because when you say that song with an English accent, it SOUNDS like "Go and Get Stuffed"!  I have always loved word play, don't you? I find it very amusing!  (The song was sung by Billy Ocean.)

(Favorite Christmas cracker joke:  Where does Queen Victoria keep her armies?....answer below....)

You know those people who say that they have nothing to say? Not me! I tell you, I have TONS of things I want to write about...but I am so tired, I just asked Richard to tell me where the exclamation mark is located on the typewriter!  You can see, I found it!! HA!

Okay then, where does Queen Victoria keep her armies?
Up her SLEEVIES, of course!

Oh! And thinking of Billy Ocean reminded me of Billie Piper from Dr. Who, from the episode where she kept trying to get Queen Victoria to say "We are NOT amused".

Sorry, I am tired...you might see how my brain goes around in its tiny little circle!

  1. Ha! Your post made me smile and I have to say that I love stuffed peppers! My kids loved them too but they only ate the meat filling. That song always reminds me of an aerobics class I took back in the day and that was one of the song's that the instructor always used. I would find it very tough to do those aerobics classes today...and wear the leotard with leggings! Now, go and get some sleep! I'm headed in that same direction!

    1. It's funny how you can associate one song with a strong memory. I don't know, YAYA, I think you should do those aerobics again!! :-)

  2. All of them are delicious stuffed as well as in salad. AS far as the song We are amused.

  4. Great picture of your peppers, love it!! You don't do hot at all? I love hot.. but just the spicy kind of hot, not the kill-all-tastebuds kind. I very much enjoy Indian, African and Middle Eastern food, and that often comes hot.
This year, my parents didn't grow any peppers on the allotment... everything was rather sparse there this year because of the extremely hot and dry summer, my Dad just could not work there as much as he would have liked.
I remember the song and the video well :-)

    1. Glad you liked the peppers!
No, I don't like hot spicy foods very much at all! Having said that, I don't mind a BIT of heat, but it needs to be subtle. Oh dear, I am too poor to be picky! HA!
My Dad had a rough time with his garden too, the Spring was too wet and cool and then, the summer was hot and dry!

    1. And we only garden in pots! So, we only have room for a few peppers but do enjoy our peppers! Lucky for me, my Dad has a big garden! And everything is best from the garden!

  6. There's a new word, "slangry", for when you get so sleepy you are cranky or angry. You don't seem to get cranky, though, i think instead your inner entertainer comes out!
You grew some lovely peppers, i'm glad they tasted so good!

    1. Our peppers didn't do too well until just recently! Normally, we would have had more during the summer!
Your mind is like mine? Uh oh, I hope you have someone around to help you at all times! LOL.

  12. Good to hear you don't do hot either, and nor do I....but these days there is an epidemic of 'hot' in restaurant meals. Sometimes I can't find a thing to choose :(
I do enjoy the sweet peppers too, and they are great stuffed, or grilled to release the sweetness YUM. I remember that song - not only a good one, but also useful!

    1. No "hot" for us! Another thing we have in common!
Yes, I love to roast vegetables! My Dad gave me a rutabaga from this garden (it is called a swede in England, I think) and it was so sweet and yummy!

  13. Coincidentally I stuffed some peppers recently: with a cous cous mixture. As for old conundrums the first one I can recall from my pre-school (or thereabouts days) is 'When is a door not a door'.

  15. I like cold sweet peppers diced small into salads or thinly sliced. I really miss Top of the Pops even though 80 percent of it was not to my taste but now and again you got the real deal appearing. I've not known what was no 1 was in the UK since it ended. I could look it up online but it's not the same as I suspect hip hop, gangster rap or Simon Cowell's influence dominates most of it anyway. Probably ended because music sales crashed worldwide after the internet and you tube made music free to everyone. A number 1 now in record sales terms would barely trouble the top 50 two decades ago.

    1. Your first sentence about dicing pepper into small pieces or having it thinly sliced, made me smile, because I am the QUEEN of having small pieces of veggies in my salads! My mother in law is amused at me when I make a salad in England! HA!
Music really makes me sad these days, the warbling voices that are so popular, the popular electronic stuff and the horrible booming bass of the rap/hip hop. I know it is popular but I simply don't like it.
Of course, I can't really say anything against YouTube, you can still find good music on there, even if it is from the past! (Only thing, I will work so hard to find JUST the right music video for my post and when I look at it later, you won't be able to see the one that I put on there! Drives me crazy!)

  16. I remember that song well and the film. I also knew the punchline to Queen Vic's armsies - I've listened to my Dad telling lots of bad jokes over the years! My Mum is having a fad of stuffing peppers at the moment - no idea why! x
