Unless you have been under a rock this week, then you will know the POPE has been visiting the USA! (Even the small Catholic church in our town has a sign that says "Welcome To America, His Holiness Pope Francis".) New York City was so welcoming, the newspaper The New York Post, changed their header line to "The New York POPE"! You gotta love New York City, you know I do!
This morning at the service at Ground Zero, a youth choir sang "Let There Be Peace On Earth". I find it extraordinarily beautiful.
Next time, Pope Francis, why not swing by the Monastery in Rockdale County, Georgia? It's not far from the Atlanta airport!
That is a beautiful monastery. "And let it begin with me." Those are powerful words.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved this song, I thought this choir did a beautiful job of it. If only we could take the words to heart, and do just that, have peace on earth.
DeleteI do love that song and think the Pope reflects that message quite well. That is a beautiful monastery. It looks very peaceful. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. It's been beautiful weather here.
ReplyDeleteOn Saturday, it poured with rain the morning and it was misty/cloudy all day. Never mind, it made for some great pools on Arabia Mountain the next day, and some cooler weather, nice for me!
DeleteWe often sing this at our church :) I have been following the Pope's visit with interest; he appears to be going well with his message, and his humble attitude.
ReplyDeleteOne of my sons and his wife also visited New York this week - not that it was reported :))
HA! No, I don't recall seeing your son and his wife on TV!! How exciting to have been there at the same time as the Pope (or was it just before?) even so, the anticipation must have been just as fun!
DeleteI remember singing that hymn in junior choir at church when I was a kid. I think it was a "new" hymn then (nearly 50 years ago). Now I have to go to wikipedia and check when it was written to see if my memory is correct, LOL!
ReplyDeleteYES! Written in 1955.
DeleteYou know, I believe that I did a post about this song before...maybe you could find it and let me know! I love this song and thought this youth choir singing it was one of the best I have ever heard.
DeleteHe's a very special "Pope of the common man".
ReplyDeleteI find the positive response to the Pope as something both surprising and heart warming.
DeleteSuch a lovely performance of a very profound song.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think so too, and that is why I wanted to make sure and have it on my blog if anyone missed it!
DeleteNew York! New York....start spreading the news....
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing quite like a choir of wonderful voices.
Let there be peace on earth....how great that would be...to dream the impossible dream...
I heart New York! I really do! (I MIGHT be on a video of singing that song "NEW YORK NEW YORK" and dancing like a Rockette in garden in England ..let's hope it never surfaces!!)
DeleteGlad you like this song too and the young voices singing it!
Peace in one country, one town, one suburb, one golf club committee even would be a great start. (No. I'm not on a committee theses days and certainly not a golf club one).
ReplyDeletePeace on earth, good will to men.
DeleteThat's a beautiful Monastery Kay and such a beautiful song.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sarah. I am lucky to live so close to the monastery and I have always loved that song!
DeleteAnd that looks like a beautiful peaceful church.
ReplyDeleteAnd that looks like a beautiful peaceful church.
ReplyDeleteThe peace and quiet of the church is amazing. The monks built it with CONCRETE, so the walls are very thick!
DeleteNice to see your kitty cat comment here, Jenny Woolf!
The current Pope definitely seems like one of the best there has been for a while. He has interesting views on things the Catholic church has been quiet/against for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised at the pope's reception, there is not a lot of positive news these days, I liked this story!
