Michael J. Fox and Parkinson's Disease

Just learned today that one of my customers has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.  Michael J. Fox has this same illness and has worked for many years in drawing attention to it and raising money for research.  (Muhammad Ali also has it. You might remember the  poignant moment when Muhammad Ali lit the Olympic torch in Atlanta in 1996.)
There, I have the link to his foundation above.   Not only is there a great deal about Parkinson's disease itself  but there is a lot of practical advice for those who have it.  (Also there is a link to a blog!)

"Back To The Future", that is one of my favorite movies!  I just saw that it was listed as one of the Top 100 American Movies of all time!  (I think it was  at #55.)  I must have read this on the BBC, that is where I get a great deal of my information these days!   If you watch that clip, let me know if you remember it and love that movie as much as I do!  Wait...WHAT...you have never seen it?  Well, doggone, what are you WAITING for?   The film is perfectly cast and the script is very cleverly written and just so FUNNY!   (You are my DENSITY!)

I know what you are thinking...Kay, does EVERYTHING remind you of a song or a movie? Yes, and sometimes, BOTH!

For all who are going through any kind of challenges just now, hang in there and be good to yourself!
Doctor's orders!  And look at flowers, the beauty is good for you!  Don't have any?  Okay then, look at these...

  1. Back To The Future deserves to be higher up on the list than 55. It was a great movie for it's time that still holds up really well. I'll show my kids those movies and even though they'll know 2015 was nowhere near how it was in that movie I hope they'll still enjoy the charm of it.

    1. Hey Mark!
So glad you like this movie too and I so much agree, it should be way higher on the list. I saw Back To the Future in 1985 in England at the movie theatre in Eastbourne! I think your kids will love it!

  3. Michael J. Fox has done wonderful work in bringing knowledge about the disease to the world in general. And he's still acting...I love his role in "The Good Wife".

Your photos are wonderful...they've brightened my day. :)

  4. Lovely flowers, Kay, thank you - even though I am not going through any challenges at the moment (other than the small challenges everyday life sometimes presents, such as getting to work when the trains are not running as they should...).

I love, love, LOVE "Back to the Future" - it is ony of my favourite movies, too! I could quote you entire scenes, I've watched it so many times and still want to watch it again! Love the music, the cast, the story - everything!

    1. It is my wish that Mr. B., the customer that I told me that he has Parkinson's will see this post, but I also hope that if someone happens on it, it will bring a bit of cheer.
Hey Pauline! I just remembered that you visited the Isle of Lewis, you lucky thing, I bet you had a blast! Good for you!

  6. Back to the Future is a great movie-wonderful escapism. And I agree - it's impossible to go through life without music. When we first met, Mrs Britain was impressed with some of the lines I spouted, not realising I have an affection (or maybe an affliction) for pop songs...

    1. Affection/affliction...Ha, me and you both! I am the same, I am really a bit surprised at how many tunes are stored in my brain but I shouldn't be really, that must be why I have room for little else!

  7. My Grandfather had Parkinsons and treatment hasn't progressed much since he was diagnosed many years ago. I always felt sorry for Michael being afflicted with it so young, at least my Grandfather was well up in his 60's before it hit him.

    1. I think he was only in his early 30's when he developed it. My customer is in his 60's but it took a while before they figured out what it was.

  9. It is a debilitating disease. One of my favorite former Tigers was recently diagnosed with it. It is good to note that there have been advances and people can be treated to lessen the tremors that call attention to the person who has Parkinson's. Many are able to continue working when just a few years ago that would not have been an option. Michael J Fox was so young when he was diagnosed. He is a hero.
