"I'll See You In My Dreams" by Joe Brown

If you remember any of my ramblings  fantastic reviews of movies, you will know that one of my favorite films is one about a songwriter, Gus Kahn.  (He was a lyricist.) The movie is "I'll See You In My Dreams", which was one of his songs, of course!

This song was sung by the English singer Joe Brown whilst playing the ukulele at the tribute concert for his good friend, George Harrison in 2002. (Joe Brown is very well known in England and is called "a musician's musician", very much respected by his those in the music industry...along with anyone who has good taste, like me!) This particular clip is from a concert in Liverpool in 2012, I think and I loved it so much, I have it for you here.  He talks a bit at the beginning of this but he is just so doggone funny, so I hope you like that too...after all, we need laughter AND music, don't you think?  (The story of the London taxi-driver who took him to Buckingham Palace for Joe to pick up his MBE...don't miss that bit.)

The diamorpha (the red stuff!) is blooming now and dare I say it...looking dreamy!

  1. I am old enough to remember seeing him on 'Top of the Pops' years ago with his mop of blonde hair. I think his daughter went into the singing business but haven't heard of her lately.

    1. I don't think too many Americans know him, but he is very well known in Britain, I think.
Yes! I saw that his daughter was a singer too, it looks like she had songs in the 80's.
      Thanks for your visit! x

  2. That is a favorite song of mine too. Your red blossoms are just beautiful. Nothing like that blooming here just yet, but it will come...

    Love and hugs,

Both the humour and the music! (Notice I did the British spelling for HUMOUR!) LOL!

  7. There are a lot of "lovely old songs"....I think the lovely old songs we so love will last a lot longer, be played much longer than most of today's unmemorable music! :)

  8. Music and laughter - yes, indeed!
I've been thinking of you just yesterday but am struggling to catch up with blogs, what with trying to post about my Yorkshire Holiday and work. My eyes just won't allow me to do as much as I'd like to.

  10. I discovered that the song was first written in 1924 and was the title song of a film of that time. As regards Joe Brown - what a legend!

    1. Now YP, if you only read my blog more often, you would have heard me go on an on about this song! The music is by Isham Jones (I think the spelling is right.) Gus Kahn wrote lyrics but with many different lyricists, I think that is why he is not as well known as he should be. If you ever get the chance to see that film with Doris Day and Danny Thomas, please do so! It was directed by Michael Curtiz, one of my favorite directors.
I am glad that you like Joe Brown too!

  11. I love this so much!! I watched the Concert for George on television last Sunday, again, and the tears just fell down my face when Joe sang this - it gets me every single time. (As an aside, my university housemate went to school with Sam Brown. She had some stories to tell!) x
