Possum On The News!

I have told you to keep an eye out for nature. In Georgia, that means even when you are watching the news on TV.  (If you go to Facebook for WSB TV, you can see the video. Sorry, I don't know how to link to it.)

By the way, opossums' tails are used to carry branches but they cannot hang from a tree the way they are sometimes shown in pictures.  And in answer to your question...NO, I have never eaten possum!

Hey! Look at the above sentence, it must be getting better at work, I found the apostrophe all by myself! (In an earlier post, I had to ask Richard where it was on the keyboard!)

Any nature sightings for you?  In North Carolina, Audrey and her daughter were thrilled to see a Bald Eagle in flight while they were waiting at a traffic light.  Thanks, Audrey!  (Click on her name to see her blog, such a wonderful writer and photographer!)

  2. I used to see possums a lot when I was a child. I have only seen one and it was dead since I moved here. Times change.

  3. No possums (or opossums) here, I think. But my "nature sighting" of the month was when I was on a train to Heidelberg two Sundays ago and saw a stork in a field not too far from the railway! Storks have become more and more rare in Germany, not only because (modern) houses don't accomodate their nests as easily anymore, but mainly because wetlands and swamps etc. have been largely drained or built over, so that they can't find enough to eat.
Therefore, to see a stork out in the open and not in some park is really rare here!

  4. We saw possums quite often in Illinois. They looked cute, but if you antagonized them they had sharp teeth and a nasty hiss. They were often also road kill. Are those pansies or violets. They sure are colorful and beautiful!

  5. We ate the last possum yesterday. But we also counted at least a dozen frogs in a neighbour's pond; obviously, I needed a lie-down after all the excitement. The idea of seeing an eagle while you're waiting at traffic lights is amazing - what a privilege!

  6. There's some grassland near me and occasionally you'll see a squirrel there. The main times to see them are during the summer, and before they hibernate. I once saw what I assume was practically a whole family.

  7. Other than birds at the feeders outside there's not been any animal sightings here. But a sure sign of spring has been in the air with a stink. It's mating season for skunks. Oh dear...

  9. Nice pansies. Got within touching distance of a large fox the other day, a wild one, which I,m chuffed at. Always think the Virginia opossum looks slightly evil with its white face and large teeth. Like the animal equivalent of Nosferatu.

  10. We occasionally get a possum or a coon that wanders up from the creek, mostly at night and mostly to see if they can find where anyone is feeding a cat or dog outdoors. The squirrels, however, are everywhere and all day long.

  11. Kay, I am not even kidding you.....early this morning there were two possums mating in our backyard. If you remember we had baby possums here last year so I imagine we'll have more. We're still laughing at having caught them in the act!!! XOXO
