Get Off My Back- I Want To Fly!
Don't you wish you could fly away from whatever is on your back? Okay, you might have to work at it a bit and really shake it off, but let this woodpecker be a lesson for us all. Never give up, never surrender! (This is a photo from a man who was on a walk in England, in Essex...it is a green woodpecker with a weasel on its back...some say it is a baby weasel but it looks pretty darn big to me!)
It has not been easy for me to spend as much time on my blog as I would like...I have had to do some overtime at work and it has been a bit stressful. One bright spot this week...one of my co workers came to me and said, "Hey, Kay, look at this"...and then turned his phone to me and showed me the SWEETEST photos of his new granddaughter, wearing the baby cap I had crocheted for her! (And the next photo had her wearing the flower headband that I had made!) The baby's name is Scarlet and of course, you must know that I love that name! Not only does it remind me of Scarlet O'Hara (very Southern) but also of the actress who played her, Vivian Leigh- very English! See, I always have that Southern/English thing going on, don't you know.
I didn't take a photo of the baby cap or headband but they looked absolutely precious on the newborn, really they did! Here is a photo of a baby boy wearing one of my caps from a few years ago. This is just a simple thing but what wonderful joy to have a baby wear this! I can't tell you how pleasing this is to me! I want to tell the world- get off my back I just want to create my works of art! (Well, that may be stretching it...but you understand, dear reader!)

Both pictures are adorable. It makes you feel good to know that someone appreciates your efforts.
ReplyDeleteMade my day, I promise you!
DeleteDear Kay, I hope the stressful time at work with lots of overtime etc. will soon be over. I am glad you still take time out for something you love - such as going out for walks, and then telling us about it here :-)
ReplyDeleteMy blog has become a bit boring as of late; I've mostly just posted reviews of the books I've been reading. That's not because I've a stressful life (because I don't), but because I haven't been doing anything much blog-worthy, or things that would not be so good to blog about, or been to places and/or with people without the possibility of taking pictures and writing about.
I hardly ever go anywhere, it never stops me from blogging! :-)
DeleteMy problem is trying to decide from all things I want to blog about, I am afraid I have a lot I want to say but my work life has drained all my energy lately. Hope I can get back to my walk on either Arabia Mountain or Stone Mountain, I think I need them!
I always like your posts about whatever you write about! I read your book reviews even if I don't comment on them, they are always so well written!
That picture of the woodpecker was on our TV news this evening. Then later they backed off it and were doubting it's authenticity. I suppose it could have happened but I think the bird would have had a hard time carrying that weight. The crocheted baby things are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chris! I thought that people might doubt the photo, but we saw the photo first on The Nature Conservancy Facebook page so we felt it must be true.
DeleteOh yes, I understand. Sometimes you just want to say shove off to everything and everyone and do nice things! We all feel that way, so don't feel badly that that is how you are feeling right now. Take care of yourself and enjoy the happy moments - beautiful hat!!! xx
ReplyDeleteI really try to erase bad moments in my life, but my eraser is wearing out!
DeleteThanks for your sweet comment, have a great week! x
I saw the photographer interviewed about this photo, he was over the moon to have captured it. It is an unbelievable sight, but verified as being real, - and yes, I do wish I could fly. Such a lovely little picture of Scarlet. x
ReplyDeleteOh, I am glad you saw the photographer interviewed! I didn't get an actual photo of Scarlet but she is a really pretty baby wearing my hat and headband, honest!
DeleteIf you spend your life headbutting trees its a safe bet you are not a bird to be messed with... Even if you are one of most fearsome animals on earth for your size... like the weasel. Reminds me of Wind in the Willows. (Always the bag guys.)
ReplyDeleteHeadbutting trees, yes that is just what they do! The grey squirrels are the bad guys in my neighborhood. I know that they are becoming a problem in the UK, crowding out the native red squirrel.
DeleteYes, never give up. That woodpecker didn't and it made it out of that situation.
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious baby. That photo is fantastic. And so is that adorable knitted cap!
Hey Martha!
DeleteI love to make things and I love it when folks like what I make! :-)
OMGosh- LOOK at that picture-unbelievable! lol
ReplyDeleteI love the name Scarlett and what an honor to see your hat (and headband) photographed and put on her sweet head. Love it. xo Diana
I have crocheted for years but very often I never know if anyone uses any of the items I have made!
DeleteIsn't it wonderful to have those moments when no matter how stressed you are you find something to smile about.
ReplyDeleteYes, you understand it perfectly! Moments of grace, pure and simple.
DeleteTwo pictures of amazing moments! Yes, watching a baby sleep amazes me, maybe that's why i had so many!
ReplyDeleteWish I could have had lots of babies! My one and only was a very cherished and appreciated baby.
DeleteLove the little cap! It's fun when you can see the fruit of your labor being enjoyed by others. The first pic is amazing! Talk about being in the right place at the right time...with a camera in hand too! That's my dream..to get a really cool pic captured forever! I love the name Scarlett and a friend of mine has a son named Rhett...there you go!
ReplyDeleteI love the name Rhett also!
DeleteI hope that Richard will get a shot like that one day. I don't hold out much hope for me to do that!
OMG, Kay, that baby photo. I can't even stand the cuteness!!!! I can only imagine how satisfying that would be to see a newborn wearing your knitted baby cap.
ReplyDeleteCan't tell you how thrilled I was to see my little cap on a precious baby's head. Just love it!
DeleteYeah, babies look so cute wearing those little knit caps! I've been super busy at work too -- that's why I'm late getting to your blog. Why oh why can't I win the lottery and retire?
ReplyDeleteHere's the thing, my caps are a bit wonky but hey, they look good on the babies anyway!
DeleteI am with you on the lottery. All work and no play makes Kay a bad person to be around!
I saw that photo in the newspaper - it's amazing, the shot of a lifetime. Hope your work is going better. We're being restructured so it's nothing but stress at the moment :(
ReplyDeleteSame kind of story at my job, lots of changes and most of them are just not very logical. Gee, I sound like Mr. Spock. Leonard Nimoy, rest in peace.
DeleteWhat an adorable baby picture! We have had that photo of the weasel and woodpecker all over our papers here, quite an incredible shot.
ReplyDeleteHey Jenny!
DeleteThat was an incredible photo and since I love my birds, I had to share it here!
Adorable baby photo.
ReplyDeleteThat's so amazing to see the weasel on the woodpecker's back. Ahhhh.... but what an adorable baby with an adorable cap.
