The Sword of Damocles

We have had such gloomy predictions of the snow and ice storm expected in the Atlanta area for the next two days, that it has left me with a great sense of impending doom.  Today, I felt as if something was hanging over my head, and the phrase, "The Sword of Damocles" came to mind.  I wondered if I was thinking of that correctly, so I had to look it up.   Yep, that's the right phrase  You may read about it here.

We just had the snowstorm that paralyzed Atlanta two weeks ago. If we have another day off unexpectedly, I hope that we can take more photos of the birds and that I will make another one of my magnificent meals! (Well, okay, maybe one of my adequate ones, anyway!)
Stay warm and pray for the folks in Georgia who just can't get used to winter weather!

  1. OH- It is so hard on your area when you get ice and snow- At least here we are used to it and prepared for it. Blessings to you and I hope the worst of winter is over for you- xo Diana

    1. I hope this winter is one that we won't see the likes of again and I think you might feel the same for your area too.
AT the moment, we are without power and it is getting cold in our home very quickly, the power went out about two hours ago now. Take care.

  2. An extra day off and a magnificent meal does not sound too bad, does it :-)
But I am sorry for the animals, and of course for homeless people who can't simply go inside and have a nice hot drink to warm themselves up.
Our weather here is more like April than February. We had about half a minute of snowy rain yesterday afternoon, but today is supposed to be milder again.

    1. Looks like it might be TWO days off from work now, and besides the icy trees bent over and beginning to break, now there is a massive wind that is beginning to start up...man, I have never seen anything like this. Heard on the news this morning that they have opened over 20 shelters in Atlanta as warming stations for the homeless. Can't watch the news now, our power is out.

  3. Lovely to look at Kay but it's a very different story when you are having to get on with life.

  4. I heard in the news that you were all going to be much more prepared for the next zap of winter. I sure hope so.

    1. Wish us luck, Kay! This ice storm is "historic and unprecedented." That is what we were told and it is proving to be absolutely accurate. Wish I could be in Hawaii right now! Aloha!

  5. While we have more cold in the forecast, we don't have more ice. You will be in my prayers, it's no fun dealing with all of this when you aren't used to it. And i'm sure your meals are more than adequate!

    1. This time, we were prepared for the roads to be bad, but the power outages might be the worst. I saw all the power trucks from Florida here yesterday, glad they are here and hope to get my power back soon!
I am not a very good cook so when I make something that is good it is cause for celebration!

  6. Even here where we have snow and ice every winter, I've never gotten used to it. I deal with it but that is about it. Will be praying that you don't face another disaster like the last bought of snow.

    1. That last snow we had two weeks ago was not that bad for us on the east side of Atlanta. This time, it seems we got it the worst. It is the ice that is so bad for us. I saw that they might get 7 to 10 inches of snow in the far northern part of Georgia, closer to my childhood home.

  7. Yes, and will be in the 60's by Sunday. But that's good, my granddaughter has a Nationals Cheer Compitition in Atlanta Saturday and Sunday. I am so ready for spring.

    1. I know, isn't it crazy? Hope you don't have as much ice as we do, it is really scary. Take care.

  8. I still can't believe you've been getting snow in Georgia - very odd. At least you have the lovely reminder of those gorgeous flowers to keep you bright and cheery. x

    1. Yes, indeed, it is very odd. We have had snow and ice storms before but this year, it is as if we have been transplanted to a different state, one that knows how to deal with harsh winter weather!
And those flowers? HA!! I took that photo in Polegate in England, it was at the home of my husband's cousin and those colors just took my breath away! You are so lucky with flowers there, you have no idea!!!

    1. It really does not look like anything but it was the icy roads that did us in. Enough to leave over 2000 cars abandoned by the sides of the inter-states. One young man died when his car slid off the road and a young girl lost a leg when she was hit by a car trying to help her mother move their car. And I don't mean to be so serious here...I thank you for your comment, it made me laugh!
