Closer To The Bone

My left hand has two bandages after a "procedure" today.  "You'll call it a procedure, but it's really surgery".  Can anybody tell me what movie that is from? I might have the quote slightly wrong, but please don't sue me!  And forgive me, I have not been able to read and comment on all your wonderful blogs that I enjoy so much.  I hope you will understand.

We celebrated Daddy's birthday this weekend but it is really today.  We won't be able to talk during the Atlanta Braves tonight because they are on the West Coast and the game doesn't start until after 10PM, which is too late for me. For my Dad and for you too, I have found a song by Kris Kristofferson  Listen closely to the words and see if you don't agree that it would be perfect for someone like my Dad. "Closer To The Bone" is the name of the song, and I just wish I could have written these words. ( I like the music too, I just can't write music!)  It takes about 49 seconds before the music starts but please, be patient and listen to the song. I really like it.  Hope you do too.  Daddy, if you read this...just click on that arrow above and the video will begin.  Enjoy!

Can't leave this without some photos from my birthday at Stone Mountain.  Enjoy the clouds and the flowers, you know I did!

  1. I'm glad you're still able to type after your "procedure" ~ seriously, I hope it all went well and your hand recuperates quickly. I love those flower photos ~ so beautiful. What a nice way to spend your birthday!

    1. Dear Audrey,
It was only a little thing but it is surprising how much it hurt, and I'm sure the bill for it will hurt even more!
Richard and I loved the flowers. We didn't see not one other person taking photos of them, what is wrong with people, can't they see beauty?

  2. I hope you're on the mend and soon will be able to use your hand exactly (or even better) than before!
    Happy birthday to your Dad!
And aren't those snapdragons out of this world?
It will be a while until they show in the gardens around here.

    1. Dear Meike,
Thanks! And yes, the snapdragons are amazing! There must have been just the right amount of early hot weather this year to make them grow so tall, they are like that in all the gardens we have seen. We know snapdragons well, Richard has grown them in the past. Do you know that you can gently move the flowers between your fingers and make them "snap" at you?

    2. Of course I know that, Kay - been scolded enough times for doing it when I was a kid! My Mum said it was OK to play with those flowers that had already dropped off and were on the ground, but I was not supposed to pick them off their stems just so that I could see their funny little "mouths". In German, by the way, they are called Löwenmäulchen, which literally means little lions' mouths.

  3. It's so annoying when your hand is out of action, the inconvenience is maddening. Hope you recover soon. What a shame you and your dad can't watch the game together by phone. Roll on the next one!

    1. Hey!
You are so right! You never know how much you use a part of your body until you injure it and then, wow, you really appreciate every part of the entire human body.
The Braves will be leaving the West Coast soon (3 hours earlier time zone!) and that will make the games start around 7PM, much better for us on the Eastern Time Zone!

  4. Oh wow - what beautiful photos. My grandparents always grew snapdragons, so your pics remind me of them. Hope you had a lovely birthday, and that your hand gets better soon.

    1. Dear Joanne,
Thank you! We love Stone Mountain and Arabia Mountain. If you put those words into my search engine, you will see how many posts I have about them. (That is, if you have several hours to kill! I do go on a bit, sorry!)
Thanks for the birthday and get well wishes!

  5. I agree - what lovely photos! Those snapdragons (as we call them in England - is it the same name over in the US?) are stunning. Happy birthday and get well soon, Kay!

    1. Dear Biddy,
Thank you so much! Yes, the snapdragons here are exactly the same as in England. These are the tallest and fullest that we have seen here, perhaps the early heat of the summer make them grow and now, the slightly cooler temps have make them lush and full? All I know is, we thought they were beautiful too!

    1. Dear Jenny,
Thank you! He is great and he is having his second eye surgery today (the 25th) and it is possible he won't have to wear his glasses anymore!
And those flowers at Stone Mountain? Yes, I told them to plant them for my Dad, of course! :-)

  7. Nice photos, Kay. Those bright flower colours are so pretty. We're not quite there yet, but I hope we will be soon. The perennials are growing like weeds, so it won't be much longer. I hope you had a lovely birthday celebration, and I also hope your hand gets better soon!

    1. Thanks, Martha!
It was just a couple of little things on my hand, nothing at all serious. Good thing I am healthy, I am such a baby!
And I love the month of April, I would love it as much without my birthday in it, but that does make it even sweeter!

The flowers look gorgeous, such vibrant colours. Obviously they bloomed just for your birthday!

    1. Hey Tracey!
Thank you, I am fine, just a little something I had to do. (The quote is from the movie "City Slickers" if you ever get a chance to see it, it is so funny!
Hmmm...what does that mean if SNAPDRAGONS bloom for me? HEE HEE

  11. So sorry to hear about your poorly hand. Hope it is soon 100%. The pictures of flowers are just lovely. Pansies are my favourites and once we get to mid-May, I shall be planting out with multi-coloured ones. I have to leave it until then just incase we get some late frosts - although so far this winter we have only had a frost twice. Such a mild but very wet winter is not my idea of fun. I like the snow!

We found snow a few years ago when we were in Georgia. I think the name of the place was Helens. It was early December and the whole town looked like Christmas Fairy Land. Very pretty.

PS. Your Dad looks a really fun kind of Dad - just like mine used to be.
    Best wishes Pat

  12. Hey Pat!
I am much better today. That movie quote is from "City Slickers". See it if you ever get a chance, it is a very funny movie!
I love pansies too. They actually survive our winters here in Georgia, so by the Spring, they are full and beautiful!
Oh, yes, you are thinking of Helen, Georgia and it is a beautiful spot, up in the mountains. Lucky you, to see it in snow!
Hey! I just did a post on the Hydro Hotel, you will have to read it and leave me a comment!
And my Dad is really a great guy.
    Best Wishes to YOU!
    Kay
