The Hydro Hotel In Eastbourne, England

Lovely Joan with a lovely laburnum tree in the background with her lovely grandson! This was very near where we parked the car to go to the Hydro Hotel for tea.

Here we are and that is the back of my elegant mother-in-law with her wonderful straight posture striding into the Hydro Hotel.  I know this might be a bit dark, but can you tell how nice it is?

My son and I walked on the grounds and walked as far as we could so we could take photos of the sea and the chalky white cliffs.  Such a beautiful view!

Now, I ask you...isn't this a table of good-looking people? Handsome in-laws, son and husband!
Oops, these are out of order...but we loved this sign in the car park (parking lot is what we say in America!)  And the photo below is at the entrance to the hotel...the sea is not too far away!

This building was next door to the Hydro Hotel and my son took this photo since to us, as Americans, we were thrilled with it!  The windows, the detail of the brick around the windows, we loved it.  Could it be Victorian?
Can't you just picture the Queen from Alice In Wonderland  saying "Off with her head"?

HA!  See the crazy woman pretending she is talking with someone?  That is me!  I just had to sit there and have my husband snap my photo since I loved this room so very much!

There, we have had our tea (you may go back to another post and see the giant eclair that my son had here!) and now I am thrilled with this giant tree just outside.  It looks very much like the tree from Stone Mountain...I wonder if this might be an ash tree too.  Could anyone take a guess?  Whatever it is, I love this tree too.
I hope you enjoyed this post!  If you are ever in Eastbourne, go to the Hydro Hotel and tell them Georgia Girl With An English Heart sent you!  They will just smile politely and nod, since they have no idea who I am, but tell them anyway, so you can see how nice they all are!  Cheers!

  2. There truly is something about English seaside towns that tugs at my heart... ever since Steve and I spent our first holiday together in Scarborough.
You know, that pretty room with the yellow walls, I would have chosen the same armchair to sit in, definitely one of the tartan ones!

    2. Dear Meike,

  3. Hello Kay:
How splendid this all is and what a wonderful time each one of you appears to be having. There is something very special about these kinds of English seaside hotels, many of which were built during the C19 when places such as Eastbourne became very fashionable.

    1. Dear Jane and Lance,
I love the buildings in Eastbourne. I have to be careful, sometimes I look at the buildings and forget that I need to look right instead of left before I cross a street!
And don't even get me started on how much I love the flowers! And not just the Carpet Gardens, which are magnificent, but just the gardens that you can see as you walk, I love them all.

    1. Hey Paul!
It is beautiful. I think that there have been a few movies filmed there, you can see why. Oddly enough, there is a very huge, expensive hotel there named The Grand Hotel. Oh dear, I might have to do another post on it!!
Thanks for your comment. I love your blog and your positive attitude!

    1. Dear Tracey,
Would this be near to you? There are lots of hotels on the seafront there, and I'm sure they are all good, but this is the one that my in-laws really like. Old fashioned and with a great view!

    1. Hey Canadian Chickadee!
Thanks for your comment! Oh yes, I love having tea in England. Please let me know if you do go to the Hydro. One of my readers (Spesh 1) went there at my suggestion, so that is really why I thought to do this post about it!

  16. Just look at that hotel - quietly grand isn't it? We sat right by the window and had our tea and coffee. Such a small world. The only thing we did not have was such a large eclair! We were going out for dinner that night and were "saving ourselves"!

Next time you are over, you must go to Arundel and see the Castle and then go and have tea in a very Olde Worlde coffee shop. Low beams, log fire.......... "Belinda's" is really quite special. Let me know when you are on your travels over here again and I will tell you how to find it. Your in-laws will have no trouble and they might even have been and had afternoon tea there. We took Kate's American God Mother, Sandy, there when she was over many years ago and she thought she was in heaven. We passed it last time we were in Sussex but did not have time to go in - such a shame.

Love your pictures. So glad I clicked onto your blog.

    1. Dear Pat,
Something happened to the reply that I typed here, if it pops up somehow, there might be two replies!
Thanks for telling me (and my inlaws since I hope they will read this) about Belinda's in Arundel, it sounds lovely. I have been to the Wildlife Trust which is right next to Arundel Castle.
So happy that you were able to go the Hydro! I have read that some movies and TV shows have been filmed there. You can see why!
I am glad that you like the photos. And I am very glad that you clicked onto my blog! Look forward to reading you "spesh" comments!
      Love,
      Kay

    1. Dear Audrey,
Those white cliffs! That is solid white chalk...in the early days of our marriage and we were there, I took a piece of the chalk and wrote "Richard Loves Kay" on a big rock and took a photo of it! I wonder if I could find that...

  19. Hello Kay - I've been out of action for a few days so didn't realise you were in the land of your dreams. Welcome!

I think the ridges in the bark of the tree are a bit too deep and uneven for an Ash but I love the view up to its lofty heights.

I would guess the building you asked about is either early Victorian or late Georgian. It's not 'typical' of any period but is very attractive.

Well done, Joan, for her posturer. My Mum and Grandmother had superb posture into their nineties. The latter was taught to walk with books balanced on her head. Sadly, hours of bending over a keyboard have ruined mine!!

Hope you all have a super, super time.

    Love
    John

    1. Dear John,
Well, I really SHOULD have explained that I did this post since I suggested the Hydro to Pat (Spesh 1) and I was so excited because she went there! (I am the Queen of NOT EXPLAINING MYSELF.)Did I remember to do that? NO! It takes so long for me to look at the photos and get them transferred onto my blog, that my writing part gets little attention.
And I must tell you too, that it isn't just Joan that has good posture, my father-in-law, Peter has PERFECT posture. If you look back at an earlier post, you will see them posing together at their anniversary party.
Tall and elegant, I hope to be like that one day!
We do hope to go to England sometime this year, so I will keep those wishes for when we do!! Thanks!
      Love,
      Kay
