You all must have now heard the song that is called "the last song of the Beatles". The official music video is above. John's vocals at the beginning of this song just really tears at your heart. (What a beautiful voice he had besides his amazing songwriting skills!) I have to say it right here- I love the Beatles and always will! Seeing them on The Ed Sullivan Show as a child in 1964 was like the world coming into color. It is as simple as that.
If it is sad for us to watch this video, you also have to think what this must have been like for the remaining two to have produced this- Paul and Ringo. George did his guitar part back in the 1990's when Yoko gave them the tape. (Love you for always, George.) At that time, they could not isolate John's voice but with the technology available now, they did a great job. I, for one, am very glad to hear it.

We didn't need this song to remind us how much we miss John and George, but it truly brings it home to us.
I too am a Beetles fan and will always remember seeing them when I was young. It's amazing to listen to their music. It never grows old. All good memories here, no sad ones. We need more groups like them.

Remember the Beatles dolls? You bet I do! My sister and I had all four of them but when we moved, our mother decided we were too old for "dolls" and LEFT THEM. I am still sick about it, I think.
DeleteI was born in 1968 and my sister and I must have heard Beatles music since before we were born. My Mum tells the story of how my sister, barely able to speak, used to sing obladee-obladaaa to herself 😊
ReplyDeleteSteve was a huge Beatles fan and even had his hair cut in their style, when that was not at all fashionable anymore (1980s). I found it hard to listen to any of their songs for the first half year or so after his death. (14 years ago today.)
I love that story of your sister singing "obladee, obladaaa" when she could barely speak! Of course, I well remember your posts about the Beatles and how much your English husband loved them. Of course, my English husband does too and as does our son!
DeleteThank you so much Kaye - I just heard it for the first time here. The Beatles sound is unmistakable, so unique, and I love it as much now as back in the sixties. Paul McCartney was here in Brisbane for a second concert last night - a friend of mine was there. Magical times again! It is incredible that they could finish the song after all these years, and make a video to go with it. Priceless.

DeleteI have been listening to Now And Then since it was released. John sounds so very young.
ReplyDeleteHis voice sounds so very young because he was young. I think the tape was from the mid 1970's, so John Lennon would have only been in his mid 30's. Sadly, he was killed in 1980 when he was just 40 years old. I know you know this but hey, some folks might not, so I have it here in this comment.

DeleteFunnily enough, although I have had nearly all of the Beatles original LPs in my collection for decades along with the Kinks and Rolling Stones I'm not really into older music much and have been listening to more recent ( last ten years) new songs from Sia, Miley Cyrus, and Feist, three of my newly (re-discovered) favourites singers, with a more mature Miley having had an outstanding recent run of good songs and a great singing voice.
ReplyDeleteMost folk of a certain age, I've noticed, tend to stick with the music they grow up with but I never get exited with songs I've heard or know too well already. I like hunting for the more obscure artists producing the odd gem that's different. But that's what floats my boat these days. Bob.

ReplyDeleteIt's funny but I couldn't help but think of the 1980's music that they would play at work and I said, "Hey, I didn't like these songs when they were NEW!" (I liked a great many songs from the 80's so how could they find every single one that I did NOT like?) I do like beautiful harmonies and songs with actual melodies, no matter what year they come from! I know that is not popular these days but hey, I like what I like! Doesn't Ringo look good?
