December "Purple Snowflakes"

December! It's time for me to show you the song that they have this year for the December films on TCM.  The song that they have used is "Purple Snowflakes".  You will never guess who wrote it! You don't have to guess, you know I will tell you!  It is by Marvin Gaye! There, isn't that a funny thing for me to learn after I have been going on and on about Motown? It was not only sung by Marvin Gaye but he wrote the song as well!

Here is the video from TCM. (TCM- Turner Classic Movies.)

Of course, the lyric that comes to my mind is from the wonderful song "Have A Holly Jolly Christmas" sung by Burl Ives..."I don't know if there'll be snow but have a cup of cheer".  We sometimes have snow here in Georgia but honestly, I would just as soon see it in photos or hear about it in a song!

Anyway, "Purple Snowflakes" is such a lovely song, don't you think so too?  Marvin Gaye is one of those that we lost at a young age, just 44 years old.  Still, I am grateful for all the songs that he left with us.

Hope you are all doing well during this month of December!

  2. It is a beautiful song, and I like the glimpses of classic movies - weren't the ladies soooo beautiful, and the men, too? And those dresses; don't get me started on the dresses!!
Yes, Marvin Gaye's death was so tragic, way too early and totally unnecessary.
Only a few snowflakes (not purple ones) here so far this season; what has come down from the sky this month has mostly be rain.
Love the Yorkshire tea and mug picture! (You knew I would!)

    1. Yes! I love Yorkshire tea, it's the best! I love to look at beautiful dresses of the past and even how sharply dressed the men are too. It was sad to say and I didn't mention it but Marvin Gaye was murdered just as John Lennon was, that post date it was 40th anniversary of John Lennon's passing.

  3. Oop, I do not know this song, but I wish we still had TCM on our cable. I do not know why they stopped it (and Hallmark). Wow, you get snow at your place, despite having such hot Summers. What a variety of climate. Enjoy the Christmas season.

    1. We don't get snowfalls very often but when we do, we take photos. That 2014 snowfall was very pretty, that is when the photos were taken!😊

    1. That song on TCM was sung by Jessie Baylin. I didn't know her either just as I didn't know it was written by Marvin Gaye! I look up songs all the time! If you put in a search for Purple Snowflakes by Marvin Gaye on YouTube, you can hear Marvin Gaye singing it. I'm always pleased at different arrangements of songs, some are better than others but I thought Jessie Baylin did a great job.
