We Can Work It Out

"We Can Work It Out" was on the other side of the Beatles single, "Day Tripper.".  One usually would say "B"side but this record was released as joint "A" sides. This was the first time in Britain that a record was ever promoted in this way. Quite right, I say.  Happy to say that the song is considered to be a true collaboration between Lennon and McCartney. (So many of their songs, I will ask my son, "Now, which one wrote this song?" He will tell me, and I will say, "Oh yes, that makes sense.".) And by the way, "Day Tripper"...in 1965, as an American kid, I did not have a clue what a day tripper was...when I was in England 20 years later, it amused me to learn what it meant!

I have a video here of Keane performing "We Can Work It Out" and I hope you love this as much as I do.  I think it's a good song for these times just now.  The group is from East Sussex in England.  We have friends who live in Bexhill, so we have visited there. Maybe I might see the lead singer, Tom Chaplin walking along the seafront one day? Hey, it could happen!  (And I won't go all weird and fawn all over him. Well, I will try not to anyway!)

(OH! And after the video finishes, be sure to listen to the video of Keane performing "Somewhere Only We Know" from the Live8 Concert from 2005. Tom Chaplin has such a GREAT voice and Tim Rice-Oxley on the keyboard, why he almost FLIES away as he is playing with such excitement!)

Think about it though, how will we be changed after all this is over? Will we ever want to shake hands again, give someone a hug? Hmm....I have never liked being in large crowds anyway, so for me...Looks like I will be the same crazy lady in the attic, typing, typing, typing...  Stay safe everyone and if you have to be crazy like me, then listen to music that you enjoy and take pleasure in the small things in life, like daisies that just come up in your yard, without doing one thing to help them bloom and grow.

  1. Very appropriate song for these times. I do believe that together we can work it out.

  2. Yes. We WILL work it out eventually. Just look at the promise provided by your lovely daisies.

    1. Bloom and grow forever...I didn't realize until later that I was echoing one of the lyrics from Oscar Hammerstein, one of my heroes!

  3. You know about my special relationship with the Beatles!
Yes, daisies and all the other beautiful things out there in nature are still there - they even benefit from the lockdown, although I'm afraid that will be shortlived; as soon as things go back to more or less normal, people will forget about climate change and environmental concerns, as every effort will go towards getting the economy back on its feet. It's always been like that after a crisis.
Crowds I don't need, either, but I am so used to hugging friends and family that it feels very weird not even to shake hands with them now.

    1. When will we ever learn? When will we ever learn? (Another song lyric!)
I am American and I can tell you that in the early days of this, you should have seen people just automatically holding their arms out for a big hug and then...remembering and dropping them by their sides. Wouldn't hurt to learn how to bow to each other and we can also bring back the curtsy!

  4. I know my routine has been changed and I think the hospital will be changed forever as well. I'm not fond of crowds either. I'm happy with the 6 foot rule! Wearing a mask is second nature to me... almost 50 years in the operating room has cured me! Love the Beatles! Thanks for the smile this morning!

    1. Stay safe, dear Yaya! And I bet your patients can see your smiling eyes just above your face mask!

  5. Those are pretty daisies. I agree with you. Take advantage of your free time and let loose.

  6. Hard to know if we'll be changed. I'm not into crowds either, so haven't really minded the quiet alone time. I hate noise and chaos. But I know many are really struggling with this. Stay well.

    1. The anxiety levels are sky high, that is something that has not been addressed properly, I think. Praying for everyone affected by this.

  7. Hopefully, the "Me-Me" society, way of thinking/living will be history...a thing of the past once this is over...and it will be over, and life will start anew...and, in many aspects, in new ways.

Take care, Kay...I hope all is well with you and your loved ones. :)

  9. I think it likely some things will change, possibly different ways for different people. Someone suggested it will be 3 years before we resume automatic hand-shaking and greeting with hugs. I am not bored yet, and like the extra time to catch up on neglected tasks. It is possible many of us will re-think how we organize our lives. Yes, We can work it out...love every Beatles song, ever. Seeing them was my highlight of the 1960s.

    1. Ah, you got to see the Beatles! You are so lucky!!
3 years before we resume hand shaking and hugging? Wow, that's something to think about.
      Stay safe!

  10. Hmmm... here I am sitting in a silent room tying away. You’re right, Kay. I need some music! You mean Day Tripper is not somebody traveling?

    1. Day tripper, I thought it had something to with traveling but in England, it means you go on a train and come back the exact same day...a day tripper. Since I had never been on a train, I had never heard this term until I visited England! :-) As an American, it was always traveling in a car as a kid!

  11. I'm a hugger, Kay, and I will continue to hug when I can. We saw close friends of ours on Friday for the first time in over two months. We each picked up takeout from the restaurant where we typically had dinner and drinks on Friday night. One of my favorite waitresses, in mask and gloves, put our dinners in the hatchback of my car. We drove to a close by park, and had dinner sitting on benches well apart where we could speak loudly to each other. It was windy and chilly, but we had an awesome time. Not hugging was very hard! We'll be back again next Friday! I love to go on a day trip in England! Loved that song too. Maybe next year! 🤞Hugs to you, Kay! ❤️
