He's Alive! (Jesus of Nazareth)

"He's Alive" by Dolly Parton.  Just in case you don't know, Dolly Parton is not only a singer but she is a SONGWRITER and a very good one at that. Now, she also sings songs that she did not write and one of those is "He's Alive" which was written by George S. Clinton. (Who did the music for the Austin Powers films, among others.)  Please, don't laugh at that...songwriters can write about anything and everything and I for one am grateful for that fact.

The video of Dolly Parton singing this song, I really like...the song is  supposed to be from the viewpoint of Peter.  I found another video with the song set to scenes from the marvelous production of "Jesus of Nazareth" from 1977, with Jesus being played by Robert Powell and Mary Magadalene, by Anne Bancroft.  James Farentino played Simon Peter.  And John the Baptist was Michael York.
It was an excellent film, very moving,  I thought. If you have never seen it, I suggest that you do!

Richard and I went on a walk yesterday.  We saw wildflowers blooming and since they bloom at this time of year, many people call them "Easter Lilies".  (They are atamasco lilies, the Jamestown colonists wrote of them. They got that word "atamasco" from the Native Americans, the word meaning the bulb under grass-like leaves.")

Happy Easter to you all!

And the fringe tree on top of Arabia Mountain...amongst what looks like thorns, I like this too.

  2. Happy Easter to you, too, dear Kay! The fringe trees and the Easter lilies are very beautiful. Did you know that the German word for daffodils is Osterglocken, meaning Easter bells? Same reason, as over here, they are more or less in bloom at that time.
Michael York - I had a serious crush on him when I was 12-13 years old, and he played D'Artagnan in The Three Musketeers!
Dolly Parton's music and her looks may not be everyone's cup of tea, but she is one lady to admire nonetheless.

    1. Our daffodils are long since bloomed out by Easter time! Of course, as you know, they are not native here, but I still love them too, they bloom in February and March here, this year it was late January!
Michael York's health is not good just now, I looked him up. And also, his role in the film "Jesus of Nazareth" changed him, affected him deeply, just as it did for the actor who played Jesus, Robert Powell. I wonder if anyone thinks of what that must be like, to immerse yourself into characters like that?
I love Dolly Parton! She is from the South, gorgeous and talented, loves music...we have so much in common! HA!!
Do you know her work in giving books to all the children in her county in Tennessee? She is GREAT in my book! (And she has even written a children's book too, you know I have it!)

  5. Lovely Post, Kay, and Happy Easter. I do not know this song at all, but it should be played more widely at this time. The movie Jesus of Nazareth was often shown on TV at this time, but in more recent years that no longer happens. What a secular country Australia has become. So wonderful to find Easter lilies on your walk. White lilies similar to this were always grown in my hometown and used to decorate the church at Easter. Peace and safety to you and yours, Kay. x

    1. Thank you, Pat! After I did this post, I saw that Dolly Parton did this same song from her own living room! Isn't that great?
We were thrilled to see those lilies! I was sad at the thought I wouldn't be able to see them on top of the mountain, you see, because it is restricted and can only be reached by group tours, which are cancelled at this time. So, seeing them beside the trail, that was a blessing!
Peace and safety to you and yours also! xx

  9. Is there anyone who does not like Dolly? I love her - I always have..I think she is wonderful in every way. I've been watching a few docos of late about her...her life...her music.

And, yes, she is a great songwriter...and a very strong woman...one who knows her own mind. I love her sense of humour, too.

    Take good care, Kay. :)

    1. A lot of people have always made fun of Dolly because the way she dresses or for her Southern accent but you know her short skirts and exaggerated looks just hide a beautiful soul and a brilliant brain. I think so anyway! I hope you saw her in the film "9 to 5", you are right, she is very funny!!
Take care! And I have lemons on "Lee" my lemon tree!!
