Yesterday- 2019 Movie

New movie that will come out this summer... (have to tell you!)

"Yesterday" is a film with the lead role being played by Himesh Patel! (I know him from the British show, "EastEnders" and I really loved him in that!) He will play a guitarist who realizes that he is the only person on Earth who remembers the BEATLES and then, becomes famous by plagiarizing their songs.  (Have no idea how this happens but I will find out when I see the film!) The screenplay is by Richard Curtis and I hope you know who he is! Among other comedies, he wrote "Four Weddings and A Funeral", "Notting Hill", "Love Actually" and he also co-wrote for the TV series, "Mr. Bean" and "The Vicar of Dibley".

I found a trailer for the film but I have to admit...I only watched the first few seconds of it, I want to enjoy every minute of this movie when it comes out!

Guess what? My son and I have something in common...we both have seen and heard Paul McCartney sing "Yesterday" on the guitar.  Nothing else, just his voice and the guitar.  I am telling you, I am very grateful to have that memory.  (I heard Paul in concert when he was with WINGS in the 1970's and my son heard him in 2008!...C. said he still sounded great.)

Did you know that Paul McCartney has stated that he woke up with the tune for "Yesterday" in his head and then, well... read about it just here in this British newspaper! "Scrambled Eggs"! When you hear "Yesterday", you will be singing that!  You all know how much I love my songwriters.

Paul, you need to come to Georgia and climb Arabia Mountain- that should inspire some songwriting.  If you can't do that, then you could invite me to your place in East Sussex.   I would be quiet and let you write, I promise.

  1. Hi Kay - interesting ... glad you enjoy Eastenders - not my scene! But having just seen Queen again last night ... this looks a little like a take on that movie ... but I suspect it'll be loved by many of us. I shall watch it when it comes out! Cheers Hilary

    1. Now, I should tell you, I haven't watched EastEnders in years, but for several years there, I thought the writing was wonderful. :-)
You must know that I love the Beatles! Yeah, yeah, yeah!

  2. I am old enough to remember loving the Beatles and watching them on tv with their mop hair cuts. My Dad used to moan about the long hair, lol
I really preferred Paul McCartney in wings, some of those songs were wonderful.

  3. Oh my, this movie is must see for me! I've always loved the Beatles and probably the highlight of my young life...early 60's.. was seeing them in person at White Sox park in Chicago...screamed my head off! Yep, this is a winner for sure! I always joke that Paul really should have married me when I was 12..it would have saved him so much hassle in later years! (don't tell Jack..wait, he already knows! Ha!)

  5. I guess Paul must dream about music. How wonderful to wake with that beautiful tune in your mind. Another I love (from John) is Imagine. No wonder the Beatles were successful with that pair. But I heard them singing some of their very early stuff the other day, and wondered how they had ever got popular. Of course the early stuff wasn't their own composition. Puzzling, isn't it, how people get to become household names.

    1. Paul McCartney is a genius songwriter and so was John Lennon. George Harrison was also a great songwriter/guitarist and singer but can you imagine being in the shadow of Lennon/McCartney? And one must not forget the marvelous Ringo Starr...funny, he wasn't that great a singer but the band needed him, would not have been the same group without him. (And yes, of course, I know that Pete Best was the original drummer, best to put that down before someone tells me in a comment!)

    2. Maxwell's Silver Hammer is number one.
Do You Want To Know A Secret is another of the three.

    3. Thanks for telling me. I will probably ask you again. Can't remember much. Hey, that could be a song title!😊

  7. As a confirmed Beatles fan from The Cavern days (I do admire Paul despite the fact that he went to the 'wrong' school) I never heard him in Wings. As a Quarry Bank pupil I knew of The Quarrymen before Paul joined them and they became The Beatles.I've never heard of Himesh Patel. Given that Richard Curtis is involved the new film should be worth watching.

I do hope I get to see this film, besides anything else, it will be so nice to hear all those Beatles tunes.

  8. What a fun idea for a movie. "Scrambled Eggs" is how i always hear the song now, ever since years ago when i read the story of how he wrote it.

    1. Yes, that story should be well known but I thought it was worth mentioning it again, I am sure I have had in one of my posts before! :-)

  9. I love the idea for a movie. Paul is so talented-they all were, really, each in their own right. I have always loved that song and it always makes me a bit nostalgic. Have a great day- xo Diana

    1. It was so amazing to hear Paul sing it just with his guitar. He really does have a beautiful voice.

  10. Looks a decent film Kay. If you haven't seen Nowhere Boy about the early life of John Lennon and the Beatles in Liverpool that is also a good interesting watch.

    2. Just realised Yesterday is a reworking of a similar plot in TVs Goodnight Sweetheart, where a time traveller visits 1940s Britain and gets famous singing Beatles songs no one has heard of yet.

    3. I just looked it up! I would love to see this! The lead actor, I remember him from Only Fools and Horses but more lately from New Tricks. Wonder if the series might ever be shown in the US? Wish it would. Said there's a lot of 40's music in the show too, each episode title is a 1940's song. Reminds me, I need to look back at my blog, I had a song on a post from the 40's, I really liked it. Thanks for your comment!👍

  11. What a quirky idea for a film! With Beatles music, I have to be careful - they were Steve's favourite band of all times ("my boys", he called them), anfüd their songs can still reduce me to tears nine years later.

  12. Hi, Kay! The film sounds intriguing; and, of course, I am a big Beatles fan. I'll never forget the first time I heard "Yesterday" on the Ed Sullivan Show. All eight members of my family were gathered around a 12-inch black and white tv. It was pure magic!

    1. Magic indeed and that is why I am pleased about this new film. It should give a new generation a chance to hear their music in a movie setting. I just know it will sound great.👍

  13. My ex was a bigger fan of The Beatles than I was...we had all their records/LPs. We did go and see Paul McCartney & Wings live..."Wings Across the World" tour back in the late 70s...and it was a terrific concert. Linda was on keyboards...and Denny Lane was also part of Wings.
