Cherry Blossoms and Moonlight (Happy Spring!)

Look at what I see when I step outside my front door...

Cherry tree blossoms!  I know I show you these every year but they really are pretty.  Let's go in closer, shall we?

Tomorrow, I plan on going on two hikes! Great way to start the first day of Spring!  At mid-day I will be walking with a co-worker during our lunch hour at a local park where there will be more blooming cherry trees. I have a photo of myself there from several years ago...
AND the second hike will be a MOONLIGHT hike! Isn't that wonderful?  I will tell you all about it and hopefully will even have some photos!  Tomorrow is March 20th and it is one month exactly after my Dad's funeral service and burial.  I think that he would like that I will do these walks. "Guess where I am, Daddy!"  I used to call and ask him.  He would say, "On top of Old Smokey?" and laugh in his unique, wonderful way, "Hee, hee, hee".  (I know I told you this before but that is most certainly what he would say and how he would laugh!)  And the fact that I will see a full moon on my hike...my Dad used to call me and say, "Look outside!"...that is the BIGGEST moon!"  Loved his enthusiasm and glad that I could share it with all of you.

Happy Spring to you all!

(I have had this song by The Inkspots on my blog before but since I like it so much, I have it here again!)

  1. Love the Inkspots. I am afraid I will be soundly sleeping for the moon. I no longer stay up all night. I hope you enjoy it.

    1. Oh I am the same, the hike will be just when the moon comes up! So, I will still be early to bed!

  2. 5:58 pm Eastern time on the 20th is the official beginning. You have blossoms, and I am happy to just have dirt! You definitely inherited his enthusiasm. A wonderful gift.

    1. I only wish I could have half of my Dad's enthusiasm! My sister out in Colorado will have snow until May!

  3. Aren't trees covered in blossoms one of the most beautiful sights on this planet? Ours are not quite as advanced as yours yet, but I have spotted a few magnolia trees lately that are about to burst - probably this weekend, when it is forecast to be warmer and sunnier again, after a dip in temperatures and very cold nights.
A moonlight hike - that sounds wonderful! I wonder whether it is with your favourite ranger!

    1. My grandmother (my Dad's mother) loved flowers so much. When you gave her a plant, she would look at it and say, "will it bloom?"
Saw no need for it if it didn't!
And yes, my hike WAS with my favorite ranger! Ha! Look out for a post very soon! :-)

  4. Hi Kay - yes the plants and trees are burgeoning - and like you I love the flowering cherries. Enjoy your hikes - the moon one sounds good ... I think it's a cloudy Eastbourne - so no moon tonight ... cheers Hilary

We also have red bud trees, never understood why they are called that with their gorgeous purple blooms.

  6. Happy Spring! Your view of those cherry trees is breath taking. We have no blossoms here yet, but I know they will come too, just like Spring did. So good you have those happy memories of your Dad. Yes, I do agree that he would be happy to see what you do. Remember he is just as close by as your heart as there is where you keep those memories forever.

    Love and hugs,
    'ma'

    1. He will always and forever be in my heart! I just made a great chicken pot pie...and I have NEVER been able to make a good one, it must be because I was thinking of him, and he was SUCH a fantastic cook! xx

  7. So beautiful to see those trees! My snowdrops are blooming. It will be a while before much else is, but it has begun, glorious spring! Enjoy your two hikes. It is a great thing to do over the weekend, and remembering wonderful things about your Dad is, too.

  9. Beautiful pictures, Kay. I know you miss your dad. I still miss mine after all these years. I can remember walking to the house from the barn on a cold, crisp winter's night (I had to do the last barn check at night) and I would look up at the moon and say a prayer for my dad's health. He died when I was 21.
Have a great first day of spring and enjoy the walking! xo Diana

    1. Oh Diana, you lost your Dad at such an early age. I am so sorry. Some days I am okay but then, at times, it is as if I have just lost him.
I did enjoy those hikes very much. Wish I had more time to walk those walks!

  12. Those are beautiful pictures. I've been so busy lately. I love the Ink Spots too. They were singing still when I was a kid. I am wondering about the warnings about Google+. I can't tell what it's going to affect on this blog thing. Blog thing reflects my internet competence.

And also like you, I cannot figure out what I am supposed to do about these changes on our blogs. Hopefully, one of my blogging buddies will let me know if there is something I should do! :-)

  15. How beautiful are those cherry blossoms. I had no idea Spring started on the 20th March. All the seasons start on the first of the month in Australia, which seems really boring now. Hope you enjoyed your walks!

  16. It warms my heart to see you getting out and enjoying the beauties of nature. You can never see enough cherry blossoms, imho. I have a strong feeling that it would crush your father's spirit if you didn't make the most of your life and do the things you enjoy most. Send you a big, compassionate, and encouraging hug!

    1. Thanks, Louise. My Dad was such a man of nature, a life-long gardener, and he knew so much of trees and flowers, it was a joy to ask him questions! I will accept your hug and will send you one right back! x
