Going Viral (Just Breathe, Kay, Just Breathe!)

The title of this post is not as it seems. That is just my way of telling you that I have been sick/ill/unwell this week from a dreadful virus and at the same time, have had breathing problems from my asthma.  Now, you don't have to think about breathing, it is an involuntary act, you breathe in, you breathe out, etc, etc. etc. (At least, we hope we do!)

"Asthma is a disease characterized by recurrent attacks of breathlessness and wheezing. They may occur from hour to hour and day to day.

This condition is due to inflammation of the air passages in the lungs and affects the nerve endings so they become easily irritated. (Something I have in common with nerve endings, ha ha.) In an asthma attack, the lining of the passages swell causing the airways to narrow and reducing the flow of air in and out of the lungs."

My asthma is under control as long as I avoid my "triggers". Bad thing, I never know what chemical might set me off...and by chemical, that could be someone's perfume, aftershave, cleaning product...you get the idea! Cigarette smoke is one of the worst for me. I often have to hold my breath as I walk into a building if I see someone outside smoking.  Thank God, one can no longer smoke inside buildings. That was a wonderful thing to come about for someone like me.  (We have friends who smoke but they know this bothers me, so they are considerate! Yes, talking to you in England, Henry and Sarah!)

"Aging Disgracefully", that could describe me, but it is the name of a blog from Canada!  I have a link for you and Sandy aka Doris the Great will explain the problems of scented products around people like us and you may read her post just here.   She is so doggone funny and positive but I think you can sense the seriousness of this subject from her post.  I mean, come on, folks, breathing is really a nice thing to do, am I right?

You don't want to know all my problems but the phone company cut a cable and we didn't have our internet/TV or phone for a while.
After all was restored, I had difficulty in looking at our emails.
So...not much time for blogging this past week and with the weather, not even time for my walks...

And yet, the cherry trees are at the end of their blooming and the blossoms are falling and the high winds have blown them all over my walkway.  I am like a princess with the petals beneath my feet when I trudge up my steps from a long day at work!

Diamorpha with their white blossoms too!

A Happy Easter to you all!  And a happy Spring to you as well!
I feel a sermon comin' on here!

    1. Oh Janet, there are so many who are going through much serious things right now, like YOU! I was just a bit frustrated from a number of things this week, not just the virus and asthma, I try to be positive though!

  4. Kay, I am so sorry you have been ill. I wish the good health and happiness. As I have aged, I have learned good health is a true blessing. Basically I am a healthy person...but we have things we make ourselves get used to, like arthritis. Kay, I used to smoke. I tried to be respectful of others even way back then. I am truly thankful I quit. So that was about 20 years of a bad choice. Wishing you a great holiday weekend. Hugs to you sweetheart. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  5. I am sensitive to certain chemical scents as well, but they don't trigger asthma in me, just bad headaches. I hope you feel better soon!

  11. Scents can cause trouble, and some people use way too much. "Nice scent, must you marinate in it?"

    1. I know! Sometimes when we walk on a trail, I can smell a woman's perfume for several yards before she gets to us. I hold my breath for as long as I can!

  12. As a health care worker I was always taught to not wear perfume. Back in the day it was because folks who are sick might not want to have strong scents around. Now it's more because of allergies. I have a problem with cigarette smoke also...hate it! Asthma is very serious and not to be taken lightly...take care of yourself and I hope your Easter is lovely!

I wish that I could go with you to see OK and his Dad play in the orchestra for the Easter Service! Will they both play trumpets?

  17. Happy Springtime and Happy Easter.........I do not have Asthma but I do know what you mean. On (thankfully) rare occasions I cough and can not get a breath, so all I do is weeze and try to inhale some air. It is very scary because it feels like the sides of my throat are stuck together by suction and I can not breath at all............I try to stop trying, hold my breath in the hope it will release. Has happened several times now. So I think that must be how it feels so I sympathise a great deal. What must be scary for you is never knowing when it can happen..............anyway, I hope you are better now from whatever it was that ailed you.
    Happy Easter Sunday

    1. It is quite alarming to not be able to breathe well. For me...I am going along, la dee dah, not a care in the world, just breathing in and out, and suddenly, I realize the air is just not coming in like it should, and my face goes a deadly white and... then, I remember to use my rescue inhaler! It is called a "rescue" inhaler for good reason! I am much, much better now and like all bad things in my life, I have erased it all from my mind, only looking for good things now! Today was one of them, it is was amazingly beautiful here, all blooms and bright blue skies with the birds in full song. Just gorgeous.
Hope you have had a wonder filled Easter, my friend! x

  18. You've been have a grand old time...not! If being ill and unable to breathe wasn't enough, insult was added to injury having your cable cut!!!

I know how the latter fees (or my cable) did! It happened to my cable last year...twice!!!! Being without interne access, for me, anyway, is like having both my arms cut off, as well as the cable!!!

I hope all is well on all fronts now, Kay...take good care. :)

    1. You might have a touch of asthma and not know it. For years, I had coughing spells and the cough would come from no where, and it would be hard to catch my breath. I now know that is part of my asthma. Why, I used to have folks try to beat me on the back, thinking I was choking on food! They meant well, anyway! :-)

  21. I'm rather late in reading this and I read in the comments that you are much better now. I'm very glad to hear that. One of the things I miss living on Lewis is tree blossom. I used to be bathed in it everywhere in New Zealand.
