Simple Pleasures

Hello! How are you all doing? What have I been doing? Well, nothing exciting but very busy nonetheless.
Yellow daisies growing in a pot in my own back yard! I planted them from seed! Our good friend, Mary watered them for us while we were in England, and they have been very beautiful!

I will even pose with a giant flower at a bus stop in London! (This was a poster to advertise the Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit at the Tate Modern.)  For Pete's sake, I just had to go back and correct the spelling of her name ...and the name is right there on the dang poster!

At my Dad's on Saturday, the clouds were the remnants of the outer edge of Hurricane Matthew.  No rain here, just clouds.

My Dad made two pans of biscuits and they looked so good, I took a picture of them.  They tasted better than you could even imagine!

Daddy has a new calf and she is 8 days old.  Sadly, her mother "Sunshine" died just after giving birth.  She is a pretty calf but do you think she looks sad, or is it just me?

Not much time for our walks lately but we have been able to walk at the weekends.  Stone Mountain in early morning light should be a subject for artists.

Our son and his girlfriend came over for a visit and I cooked them a meal. Thank goodness, it was a success! (Might not win any prizes but they seemed to like it and appreciate it. Big deal for me, I am NOT the best cook in the world.)

The Atlanta Braves has Timothy Miller sing "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretch.  I found a video of him singing this from last year.  Hope you enjoy this as much as I do!
I will go on record and tell you that my Dad thinks that the Cubs will be in the World Series, we will see!

  1. What a great picture of you by the O'Keeffe advertisement. My hubby's grandmother had an O'Keeffe (a poppy) and it disappeared and couldn't be found after she died. We think we know where it went but ........

That is a great picture of your handsome son and his cute girlfriend. I am sure you could have fed them peanut butter and jelly and they would have been happy.

Hope you are doing well- I am trying to get back into blogging a bit again. xo Diana

    1. Hey Diana! I would go searching for that O'Keeffe poppy!!
I snapped that photo of Christopher and Shognik just as they were headed out the door! (Just like me, I am afraid!)
Glad to see you back blogging, hope your hubby is much better now! xx

  2. How wonderful to have your very own patch of yellow daisies, Kay! And the little bird in the plant pot makes it just perfect.
Poor Sunshine... I am sure your Dad makes up for some of the love and care she'll never know from her mother.
Speaking of your Dad, what did he bake the biscuits for - were they the base for fruit cakes?
Your son and his girlfriend are such an attractive couple; I remember thinking that when you showed us pictures of someone's wedding (I think).

    1. The little bird is a tufted titmouse and when I took that photo, he was right in the middle of his bath! (The bottom of a pot is what we use for a bird bath and the birds love it!)
I will have to do a post about Sunshine, I have some good photos from years past.
The biscuits...don't know if you can make it out...they are lovely pieces of very soft bread, they are not sweet at all, the way biscuits are in England!
Yes! C. and Shognik are an attractive couple, they are sweet together. (Just like you and OK?) xx

  3. Love the Daises. Do you go to the Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mountain?
Those biscuits look so good, would be good with jam.

    1. Richard and I have been on top of Stone Mountain on the weekend of the Yellow Daisy Festival before and we have seen the hordes of cars streaming into the park to go to the Festival! We don't go to that, we just go to the mountain for the real yellow daisies!
And you are right, they are good with jam...and with anything else! x

  4. Those biscuits do look pretty good and the flowers look beautiful. It's always a good feeling when something you planted as a seed grows so well.

  5. Here's hoping your dad taught you how to make those delicious looking biscuits. The pretty yellow daisies are delightful. We do just have to be very thankful for the simple pleasures in life!

    1. OH, you have given me an idea. I will try to talk my Dad into making them and letting me put it on video! His biscuits are the BEST, everyone says so, not just me!!

    1. Guess what, I saw Emeril make biscuits on one of his cooking shows and it makes them just like my DAd, only Emeril cuts his biscuits with a cutter, while my Dad kinda pinches his off and puts them into a little ball and flattens them out. Other than that, just like Emeril.

  7. Fun post, Kay! I like when bloggers just share tidbits of their lives. We learn about each other that way. And I love that your dad is such a great cook. Oh, and that poor little calf losing her mom. She does look a little sad.

  8. Sunshine's calf has the sweetest face! Farm life and animal husbandry is not for sissies, is it?
Your biscuit photo now has me craving biscuits : ) I've never made them in a pan like that- I'll need to give it a try.

    1. No indeed, you must be strong to do any kind of farm work!
And my Dad always makes his biscuits in an iron skilet, they are jet black with age and with use, and they are the BEST!

  9. These are all great pics, but I do like especially your pic, the biscuits and that sweet sad-eyed calf. I really don't think I would have seen sadness there had you not told us about her mommy. Your son and his girlfriend are a nice looking couple.

    1. What is more, Sunshine made sure that she had hidden her calf in a safe place and then, she went to the far corner of the pasture and died but not before she hid her calf. Uh, makes you think that something as intelligent as that, maybe we should not eat them?

  14. I think simple pleasures are the best ones. Wonderful to have your own yellow daisies, but sad about the little calf losing its mother. Every photo in this post is surely spreading around the happiness of your simple pleasures, the pan of biscuits, your son and his girlfriend, the lovely subtle light effects of early morning on Stone Mountain.

  16. Oh Kay, the calf. Stole me heart and then broke it. Poor sweet baby! (I was typing "my" but it came out as "me"; I went back to correct it but decided I rather liked the cockney of it ~ ha!)

  17. Simple pleasures are the best, Kay! The poor little calf! Not to mention the poor cow. Georgia O'Keeffe is a marvelous artists and seeing her museum in Santa Fe was one of the artistic highlights of my life. You yellow daisies are lovely! Have a good one!

  18. Biggest biscuits I've seen since 'wagon wheels' were popular here. I watched an interesting documentary about Georgia O'Keeffe recently which I really enjoyed. All these USA birds I've never heard of but keep appearing!

    1. The biscuits here are soft breads, they are hard to describe, not rolls but biscuits! Sometimes, my Dad makes the middle biscuit very large, he calls that one a cathead!
Keep reading my blog and you will know every bird I have ever seen!
