Hello! Once again, I have not been able to write a post for a while! My Dad called me at work on Monday and said he was taking my step mom to the doctor...and then, he called back and said she was being admitted to the hospital, and surgery was possible! (Note, in England, they would say...admitted to hospital, we say admitted to THE hospital, why is that, can anyone tell me?)
Anyway, she is much better now and was sent home today, thank goodness! (No surgery!) Here's the thing, my Dad is a diabetic and requires insulin shots and my stepmom is the one who always gave them, and also made sure he took the proper medication. So... I went to my Dad's and my stepmom gave me the instructions of how to do everything over the phone. Beside giving shots, I can also help with feeding a calf, feeding chickens, and basically trying to keep up with my Dad who wants to do lots of things even though he is now 89 years of age! Whew! So you see, I have not had time to even look at a computer! It was back to work today though and thankfully, one of my co-workers had done a lot of my paperwork, for which I am very thankful! (So much to be thankful for!)
Okay my friends, I just have time to tell you something that I saw on the BBC...it is a movie called "Lion". I have the trailer for you...and I have no idea why it is called "Lion" but I have a photo of a lion from the British Museum. The film says it is based on a true story and if you have read my blog before, you know that is the best kind of story for me. (Besides, I really like the young actor in this film, Dev Patel. He somehow reminds me of my son, not sure why, they just look handsome but also kind and gentle.)
Here's the video...tell me, don't you think it looks good? It should come out in the USA at Thanksgiving.
I'm glad that your stepmom is doing good, and that you've got the knowledge to take care of your dad. Us men aren't too good with medication.
ReplyDeleteHa, that is just it, I am the worst nurse in the world with little knowledge but hey, you do what you need to do in life! Mark, please take care of yourself even if you are not good with medication!
DeleteOh my. Your family has had a time of it. I wish good health to all.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Emma. I didn't say but my Dad had been in the hospital just the week before. Gotta roll with the punches!
DeleteGlad your stepmother is better. They also say "moving house" which drives me wild.
ReplyDeleteThey say so many things that are different, it tickles me more than I can say!
DeleteIsn't Lion the name of the main character? I couldn't catch that from the trailer but I am sure it's easy enough to find out. Anyway, the movie looks touching, and I like Dev Patel - he was great in "Slumdog Millionaire". I also like Nicole Kidman.
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief for your Dad and your step Mum that she did not need surgery and is much better now! And good to know you were there to help... Did you give Sunshine a good cuddle after every feed?
No, I don't think that Lion is the name of the character but then, I don't want to read too much about it, I don't like to have it spoiled! And I also like Nicole Kidman!
DeleteNo, Sunshine was the mother cow who died, and no, I did not give the calf a cuddle. I wonder, can you do that? I wouldn't try it, that calf was strong! :-)

ReplyDeleteRumours are rife that our Aussie Nicole Kidman might be nominated for another Oscar for her role. The movie was filmed, in part, here in Australia - in Tasmania.
DeleteI hope that Nicole Kidman would win another Oscar, I think she is great!!
DeleteIt's good your dad has you nearby to help. These are the times when family pulls together and shines : )
ReplyDeleteI look forward to the release of this movie! Looks great!
I didn't say but my sister-in-law really did a lot more than I did, it was all so unexpected so we all did the best we could!
DeleteI will look out for this movie - Nicole Kidman's films are usually ones I enjoy. Mmm, we say 'admitted to hospital' in Australia, and I have no idea why.
ReplyDeleteSee, we would say that someone has been admitted to THE hospital, funny isn't it?
DeleteAnd I also love Nicole Kidman!
You have been very busy. Glad things are looking up. That movie looks like a winner!
ReplyDeleteWell, you know, we have to look on the BRIGHT side! LOL. xx
DeleteWill be praying for your Dad and Stepmom!
ReplyDeleteThank you, much appreciated!
DeleteI'm looking forward to this one too. I always like Dev Patel in a movie. He's such a handsome young man!
ReplyDeleteHe is handsome and I since he seems such a nice guy too, I hope his film will be successful. I read that the other actors from Slumdog Millionaire have had much more success than he has, maybe this will be a very good one for him.
DeleteI'm so glad you are able to be there for your Dad and your stepmom. Being a stepmom myself, I appreciate all the help from my husband's kids. (My bonus kids.) thanks for the tip on the movie. I notice hose quirky little differences in our English too, and I like the way they say things in England, but I guess it's nothing to make a kerfuffle about, huh? ;-)
ReplyDeleteOops. Those quirky, not hose. My fingers are too fat.
DeleteYes, I do try not to get my knickers in a twist! HA!
DeleteMy stepmom is the best, she is great with my Dad and that is the best thing for me!
Wow, that movies looks SO GOOD!!! I adore Dev Patel ~ he's such a great actor and so likable. I can't wait to see it! Glad to hear your stepmother is okay and didn't need surgery. Hope things continue to go well! Sending big hugs! XOXOXO~ Audrey
ReplyDeleteHey Audrey! Thanks very much for you comment, my dear, I do appreciate your kind words! Hope you are doing well and I am sending some big hugs your way also! xxx
DeleteHope the folks will be OK.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, things have much improved.
DeleteWell, my dad always said went to hospital meant that you went to the building/place for the purpose for which it was intended...however, if you went to THE hospital you went there for some reason besides that for which it was intended---like you went to visit someone --or see the building, etc. Not sure if that makes sense or not-but that is how I understand it.
ReplyDeleteOkay- I think that looks like a really GREAT movie!!!! One I would like to see. I have always loved Nicole Kidman, too. xo Diana
I know that you told me that your Dad or was it your Grandfather was from England? And that explanation makes sense to me, and I thank you for it!
DeleteWhen you see the film advertised, you can say you saw it here first! xx
Thanks for shedding some light on that, Diana. And I wondered if to THE hospital meant a particular hospital.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the preview of this movie and it looks very interesting. I'm going to have to see it!
ReplyDeleteI only saw something about it on the BBC. Good old BEEB, I read it online all the time! :-)
DeleteI am glad you were able to help your Dad with his shots. Not an easy task. Glad your step mom did not need surgery.
ReplyDeleteI was glad to do it and grateful that I was able to take some time off work to be there!
DeleteHappy to read all is well with your folks, and mum especially didn't have to face any surgery. Helping your dad was a really loving gesture, I'm happy you were able to give him his shots.
ReplyDeleteI'll be looking for that film around the end of November, it looks to be a winner.

Thanks and thanks for visiting me today! :-)
DeleteMy mom (at 84) is not in the best of health. One of my sisters is the care giver, another sister who lives 10 miles away just helps a little. I live more than 700 miles away and that brings its peculiar difficulties. God bless and help you with your family.
ReplyDeleteDennis I do feel for you but I know that Richard does so especially. It's tough to be so far away from your family.
DeleteI thank you for asking for God's blessing! God bless YOU!
