Record Breaking High Temp in Atlanta Just After The Snow & Ice!

We had snow and ice here this week. (See my earlier posts about it!) Some snow was still on the ground as of YESTERDAY..

TODAY,  the 2nd of February, it broke a record in Atlanta for the highest temperature for this time of year.  It was 74 degrees!
Richard took this photo today at Arabia Mountain.  Look at that blue sky!
You can tell I really do have an English heart, I talk about the weather a lot, don't I? But hey, this is truly extraordinary to me! That photo of me holding the icicle? I have never EVER seen an icicle like that in my entire life, in fact I had to ask Richard how to even SPELL icicle!! HA! (And you know I pretended it was a light sabre from Star Wars, right?)

Remember I told you that I had spent a lot of time crocheting a vest for a one year old baby?  This is a photo of it...oddly enough, I made it in the colors of the Seattle Seahawks, and it looks as if they will win the Super Bowl. (I am watching it now as I am typing this, it is a very one-sided game.)  And the ads during the game?  Terrible!  The game isn't over yet, maybe there will be ONE good advert, I live in hope!

I made Richard some gluten free Chex Mix today AND I made a gluten free cake that I called a Cocoa Coconut Cake and it was really good...it reminds me of an Almond Joy Chocolate Bar...hey, sometimes, you feel like a nut!

I miss catchy commercials!  Don't you?

    1. Thanks, Janice! I made the pattern up myself which might be very easy for most crocheters, but that is a big deal for me, even as simple as it is!
      Take care!

  2. I need a lot of chocolate right now! :( Pretty vest! Pretty Arabia Mountain. Looks like you're having Denver weather ~ schizophrenic! Have a great week, Kay! Regardless, I plan to!

    1. Schizophrenic, you can say that again!
Sorry that Denver lost the Super Bowl! And it was a most disappointing game for football fans PERIOD.

  3. Wow, it was that warm today? That is crazy. Did you see the Budweiser commercial yet? I'm not watching the Super Bowl but someone sent me the commercial in an email this week. It gave me chills! And the girls love it too! :-)

    1. I wish I hadn't been watching the SB, and I can't bear to watch the end! Have a happy week, Audrey!

    2. Hey Audrey!
Yes! I forgot I had seen that one on Nan's blog, letters from a hill farm...
and I liked it mostly because it used real animals. I hope you and Louise both have a good week ahead! :-)

    3. Haha, Louise, yes, I heard it was a really boring game! Although I bet people in Seattle and all their fans didn't think so. Ha ha!

  4. Yeah, pretty nice icicle, for a baby one!

    1. HA! That made me laugh this morning!
In that case, you really COULD use them as light sabres, being careful not to hurt anyone, of course. :-)

  5. Glad you are surviving the temperature extremes there and I hope you enjoy more of the 70s from here on out.

I was not impressed with the Super Bowl ads either. The M and M commercial with the Russian guy and the candy in the trunk was about the only one I laughed at.

And I saw the M&M advert, but I was on the phone with my Dad at the time and my TV was muted...I figured I would see it often enough in the days to come!

    1. Yes! When we started up the mountain, is was very overcast...but as we walked, the clouds just fell away and there was that blue sky!
Maybe the bookies ought to call me when I crochet something, looks like I can predict winners by the colors I choose!

  7. I can't remember when I last saw an icicle even Kay: probably the 1980s. I saw the Seahawks on the News this evening. Quite a whitewash for the underdogs.

    1. I'm with you, icicles are alien to me!
That was just not a good football game, not one bit. Maybe for Seattle, I guess!

    2. Graham - To see icicles you must have a winter here on the island. Two winters ago you would have seen them. We had bitterly cold weather with snow and ice for weeks and weeks and .......... I spent hours up in your loft putting heaters up there to stop freeze ups. x

  10. 73 degrees in Hawaii is not considered hot. 89 degrees is. Usually in the summer time. Yeah, I stopped watching the Super Bowl after the first half. Boring!

    1. 73 degrees is only hot when you compare it to 9 degrees!
Our summers in Georgia are brutal, I won't lie to you, it is HOT here.
It was a boring game but I still watched it all! What a glutton for punishment I am!

  12. What a pretty vest! We had icicles like that, too, last week. Let's hope that doesn't happen again this winter, although i'm not hoping for the hot weather yet. Just some nice, moderate temps.

    1. Thanks, Mimi!
And I agree on the moderate temps...we have Spring in Georgia for about 5 minutes and then BAM, it's summer! I know you must be the same, maybe even more so!

  13. Never seen an icicle!!! Glad you got to experience it!
That baby best is beautiful and the shade of blue is gorgeous. Great job.
My wish has always been that they would make a Mounds bar with the almonds in it. I prefer the dark chocolate. The cake sounds yummy!

    1. I've only seen little icicles, nothing like that light sabre!
Thanks for the compliments on the little vest, you would not believe how long it took me to make that, I worked on it for quite some time!
I like the sound of the dark chocolate with the almond in it, write the company and tell them!!

  14. We had warmer temps too..although I bet 35de isn't exactly on your list of "high" temps! We're waiting for a big snow storm that's coming our way tomorrow and Wed. I won't see the number 74 on anything except my patients ages tomorrow! Hope you enjoyed your first icicle! I didn't watch the game yesterday, but I did catch a bit of the puppy bowl!

I saw on the news about more snow for you. Wow, this winter just won't let up!

    1. Hey Jenny! Those TV songs are lodged in my brain forever taking up space for what is needed for more important things! I remember some really good TV ads on TV in England but I noticed the last time I was there that they seemed to have gone the same as America's. Oh well.

  18. I watched a bit of the Super Bowl. I needed you at my elbow to explain! I think it was the same as if you were watching cricket!
Loved the pictures. We are in the middle of bad storms - from your side of the pond! Please take them back! Stornoway was under water the other day - we are too high where we live. The sea is the highest I have ever seen though. We could really do with a bit of your high temperatures. x

    1. Hey Pat!
Oh yes, I could explain American football to you and you could TRY to explain cricket to me, although Richard has done so for 31 years and it hasn't sunk in yet!
I have seen the photos of all the rain and huge waves, it looks a bit scary!
That high on Sunday was a bit of a fluke, but it was in such contrast, it truly was amazing. :-) Keep dry! xx
