All of you must know of the recent passing of a great songwriter, Burt Bacharach. I thought that I knew of all his songs but one that really surprised me was "Baby, It's You". The Shirelles and The Beatles both did this song but it was the single by the group called Smith that I remember. I had no idea that it was a Burt Bacharach song!
The lovely singer was Gayle McCormick. Sadly, she passed away in 2016. What a great song! Does anyone else remember it?
The song was a hit for Smith in 1967, if anyone can remember those long-ago days!

I'm more familiar with the Shirelles version than with the other two, but I didn't know it was a Bacharach tune either!
ReplyDeleteI drive myself crazy looking stuff up about music but I noticed that of all the TV news about Bacharach no one mentioned this particular song so I had to tell it!
DeleteBacharach was so talented and added to the '60-'80 pop music scene with so many hit songs - certainly helped put Dione Warwick on the charts.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that young people now can appreciate how many songs we had on the radio in the 1960's! Such wonderful memories of songs we have if we grew up during that time.
DeleteI was in the fifth grade...me and my two best friends all had the Beatle dolls. I had Ringo. Anything Beatles for me!

My sister and I had the Beatles dolls too. Our mother felt that they were not worth taking with us when we moved.

DeleteI absolutely remember this song. I was a freshman in high school and the Beatles were my group! I was suppose to marry Paul but I guess he didn't get the memo! Ha! (oh well, his loss!) I think we have your weather as it was very sunny and 52 today..which for north Ohio is a heat wave in February! I hope it warms up soon for you!

Oh dear, she does need a bra. And I think that song is terrible! That's just me, maybe others like it. I must admit a lot of the music from the 1970's was like that, but then, we got the 1980's and it got much better. And your wish for sun came true for me, for a while anyway! It is not as cold today but very grey. Hope you are well and remember, even if you don't know the music from the 1960's, I will be here to direct you to some of the best! LOL!

My dad liked Burt Bacharach, but I think I was the wrong generation. 40 mph winds and cold - wow! doesn't sound like my idea of GA somehow :) hope it warms up soon!
ReplyDeleteI think that everyone should have appreciation of good melodies, regardless of their generation. Our son was born in 1989 but I think he knows more about the songs from the 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's than I do. Those 40 MPH winds brought down trees in our area, I am thankful not in my yard though. Hope you are doing well, Jenny Woolf!
