Black strawberry tomatoes! "A cross between Bosque Blue with Strawberry Tiger, it is one of the most striking cherry tomatoes you can grow"- that is how it is described in the seed catalogs. We bought these seeds this year for the first time and how happy it made me see them grow! I am not an artist but I wanted to put these on canvas! Honestly, the way that I exclaimed over them, you would think I had discovered gold in my garden! How did they taste? Once again, I go to the seed catalog for you..." The flavor is very good. Sweet and perfectly balanced." And also, "Fantastic, sugar sweet flavor with a hint of grape and plum". Well, I don't know about that but they taste wonderful and look so pretty beside slices of cucumber on a hot summer day! Once again, it was just viewing them on the vines that made me so happy! "A bowlful resembles a luminous and luxurious bunch of gems" is how Baker Creek seeds describes them. See? I'm not lying!

As I was looking at photos of our flowers from a few years ago, I came across this picture. Richard liked the Mexican sunflower reflected in the face of this old clock on our wall. Reflections of a summer past! We didn't have any Mexican sunflowers seeds planted this year...our butterflies have had to make do with the lantana, cosmos and butterfly bush. Next year, Mexican sunflowers will hopefully be planted early enough so that we will have these tall beauties! They are like butterfly magnets.

DeleteI'd never heard of these tomatoes and they sure are beautiful and they sound very delish! Summer is coming to a close and I'll enjoy our flowers until the bitter (cold) end and those butterflies too! I had to laugh at the end of your post because I thought "Such a beautiful post and pics and then to end with something about Zombies?" Ha! I know you well enough that I should have know it would about music and a perfect song to end the post! I love that song! Ha! Thanks for smile and giggle!

ReplyDeleteI must admit, I am very good at growing plants from seeds but then...Richard does almost all of the work involved! Still, that works out well for us! I spend my time mostly admiring everything (AND eating the produce!!)

ReplyDeleteSunflower season was weird here; it began early but because of the extremely dry and hot weeks we've had, those fields we usually see covered in them were wilting and withering away quickly. You know I always think of you and your Dad when I see sunflowers :-)

DeleteOh wow! Those are gorgeous butterflies. You're the 3rd person writing about their tomato crops and I'm so jealous! I really need to think about growing a plant...or trying to anyway. I don't see many neighbors growing tomatoes. I wonder why.

DeleteWe just grow cherry tomatoes in pots but we enjoy them very much. I also read that you will have to watch out for pests in Hawaii but you have to in Georgia too! You don't want to know our problems with HORNWORMS!
I am going to have to try those tomatoes. We also got some seeds from Baker Creek and grew many plum like tomatoes, but the taste was only okay (in spite of the write up in the catalogue! haha).
ReplyDeleteI didn't know what to expect with those black strawberry tomatoes but I really loved how they looked and tasted! Hope you are doing well! You should try to visit the Monastery in the mornings if you can, my husband and I try to walk there every morning.
