Praise My Soul The King of Heaven/Take Your Shoes Off, Moses

Hey! Remember me? I am Georgia Girl With An English Heart! (Yes, I am really Georgia Old Woman but hey, sue me! LOL!!)

To prove to you that I have a foot in both worlds, so to speak, I have two examples of songs for you.  I truly like them both.  Hope you will too...

"Praise My Soul, The King of Heaven" is a beautiful hymn with lyrics by Henry Frances Lyte. (1793-1847). Born in Scotland but brought up in Ireland, he became an Anglican vicar in Devon, England.  Also a poet, he wrote the lyrics for the famous hymn,  "Abide With Me".  I have read that just before he died, he exclaimed, "Peace, Joy!".   I am thinking that those two words would make a fine hymn, don't you?

Gospel music! Combined with Blue Grass, it just can't get any better for me! (There is a guitar solo that my guitar playing son says is very, very good!)

"Take Your Shoes Off Moses".

  1. Hi, well I sure know the first hymn, we sing it often. I did not know the composer, or that he wrote Abide with me, such good hymns both of them. Moses is a new one for me, but a bit of Southern music is always good.

    1. Always good! And you know I love the English hymns, I know them from the Episcopal Church here, which is the same as Anglican. Also, I love Gospel music and Bluegrass! And I LOVE sharing about songwriters, most especially hymnwriters. So good to see your comment here!

  2. Your music always makes me feel good. I found a new song for you on YouTube. Look up Elvis singing Queen's Crazy Little Thing Called Love. There is one with only Elvis singing and one as a duet with Freddie Mercury.

    1. Someone told me about that. That song was written after Elvis died (apparently Freddie wrote it in 10 minutes on the guitar rather than the piano!) and was in tribute to Elvis but it was after Elvis had passed away. Brian May had that song on Social Media and at the very end, he laughed and said it was an Elvis impersonator. Now, I for one, am a BIG fan of those who sing Elvis songs, and many of them are very, very good. So, the video of Elvis singing the song alone would also be an Elvis impersonator, although, I think we should have another word to use. An Elvis ADMIRER, I think!

    1. I hope you love both songs! If you can't quite make out all the words to the first one, I urge to search them out. "Slow to chide and swift to bless", has to be one of my favorite lines from a hymn.

This summer? Oh boy, it's not been my favorite. All the more reason to listen to my hymns! Hope you are well and riding your bike and doing your lovely crochet art. x

  9. Dear Kay, the song "Praise My Soul" is one I first heard in the convent many years ago. The nun who was in charge of our choir--both for chant and for singing--had an ecumenical approach to music, so we learned and sang many songs from different Christian denominations.

As to the Blue Grass, I just loved that song, especially since the story of Moses, the burning bush, and the holy ground is one I've written about in the past. I'm so glad--and thankful--that you shared it today. Now I can go to YouTube and listen to it whenever the Spirit moves me. Hope all is well. Peace.
