I Went To A May Garden Party (In The Past!)

May is here! (Yes, I know we are well into it now but I am always a bit late these days.)
For the past few years, we have been invited to a wonderful garden party during the month of May. A beautiful garden to enjoy with fabulous food and drink and lots of laughter and scintillating conversation.  Of course, this year I am sure that there will be no party at this lovely garden. So...why not just share some photos from the past two years? Yes, I think that will be nice....
One year the theme was "Alice In Wonderland" and a woman and her daughter made these cookies that were just stunning!
Now, you might think that they might look good but how did they taste? My friends, they were the BEST that I have ever had in my life. And yes, I have had a few cookies in my time! Look at the decoration! Every bit of all of that was edible.  The best thing, I was able to take one of them...I chose the blue dress one with the white apron...and took it to my Dad. (This was in 2018, remember he passed away in Feb. of 2019.) Now, my Dad took one bite of that cookie and looked at me...and said, "Wow."  So much emotion in that single word!  So happy I could share this with him!

Oh, of course I took a photo of the one that I took to him! (I managed to crack the cookie on the journey but you know my Dad didn't care!)

Tweedledee and Tweedledum were on the invitations! So good!
I was thrilled with this display that someone had made! I must have shown you this before but it was two years ago, so you might not remember! All of it was tied in with Alice In Wonderland as I have told you and you can recognize this if you look at all the objects very carefully.
Okay, that was 2018...now I will show you 2019!

There were all kinds of hidden bits around the garden which made it so interesting...

    1. I thought so too, I am still amazed that someone could create baked goods that look like works of art.

  5. I remember the Alice-themed party and those fantastic cookies! Like you, the dress one would have been my choice.
And like you, I have been revisiting older blog posts of mine and indulged in some great memories, mainly O.K. and my first holiday together, Jersey in May 2016.

    1. For that last party, it looks cool but I think it was 93 degrees in the shade! All the more reason to go inside into the cool for a nice refreshing drink...with cookies!!

  8. Thank you for the virtual garden party and that is a good memory of your dad too. I love having old pictures in my photo album and share man as not many new events have been taking place. They are memories we'll never forget.

  9. A lot of skill and effort to make all that. Read a children's literature book recently that said that Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was the first real 'fun book' for children. Before that came along children's literature was fairly serious and any story told mainly concerned instruction and guidance on how children should behave as playing simply for fun had not arrived yet. Still a very strange and original book but radical and unique for that time period.

    1. Jenny Woolf is one of my blogging friends and she wrote a book about Lewis Carroll..."The Mystery of Lewis Carroll". It is very good! Guess what she did, she contacted the bank where Charles Dodgson had an account...Charles Dodgson, real name for Lewis Carroll, of course...and the bank GAVE HER ALL THE DETAILS! (They said no one had ever asked.) So, she was able to see how he spent all his money. It is a very good book!
Also, Lewis Carroll spent time in Eastbourne, so that makes him special to me. Fascinating writer, I think.

  10. I remember when you posted about this, but had forgotten a lot of it. What a delightful idea for a party and how well they carried out the themes. So glad you could share this with your Dad....I find myself remembering more than I usually do, these days. I wonder if this is happening to many people, a side effect of more time on our hands?

  11. Dear Kay, we are so fortunate--both of us--that we have happy memories. And the one you have of giving the oh-so-delicious cookie to your dad and his saying, "Wow!" must be one of your favorite memories. Thank you so sharing both the photographs and the stories. Life is good. Peace.

    1. Thank you! I have a calendar at work, and I have only had it since 2004! It is a perpetual calendar with quotes on for each day, I should know them all by heart by now! :-)

  13. What gorgeous cookies! Some people are so talented ~ whether cookie making or garden party decorating. I'm sorry that you likely won't have your party to go to this year. We will get past this virus. The best thing I can do, since I am retired is to self isolate as much as possible and take care of Terry and me. Thanks for sharing these happy memories, Kay!
