Flowers! We Will Rock You!

Wandering iris (or Apostle plant) with poinsettia in the background...who still has poinsettia in May? You would if you had an English gardener like me! (By that I mean my husband, if anyone new is reading this.)

I LOVE flowers! Don't you? They raise our spirits, I believe. Very much needed at this time.
Gardening is actually quite hard work. I am quite happy to let Richard do most of it. (But he is so very good at it, my friends, just as he is good at cooking and shopping and doing the laundry...oh dear, better not tell you all my secrets!)

Did you read recently in the news that Brian May (the guitarist from Queen) was hospitalized because he had an injury from gardening? Yes, that is correct.  Apparently, he injured his gluteus maximus (in England, they say "bum", we were always taught to say "rear end".) Anyway, I can see how that could happen...you do a lot of bending over and pulling at weeds and digging the earth, so...I will try to remember that when I am helping Richard with the gardening!  My specialty is planting seeds and re-potting. Oh! And directing where things go and also what pots should be used....I am very good at that!

UPDATE:  IT IS NOW KNOWN THAT BRIAN MAY ALSO SUFFERED A HEART ATTACK. Thank God that he is still with us!

What song shall I give you? Of course!  "We Will Rock You" by Queen!  I hope you know that Brian May wrote it! I recently watched the film "Bohemian Rhapsody". I have seen it before but it is very good and well worth watching again. I love the part where Brian May presents the song "We Will Rock You" to the group and in particular to Freddie Mercury. (The actors were just so very good in their roles, the casting was excellent!)
If you watch the film, make sure to watch all the way to the end, even through the credits. You will be rewarded by real videos and photos of Freddie Mercury, the REAL Freddie Mercury, an  incredible songwriter AND singer. (And not putting the actor down at all who portrayed him, Rami Malek...his performance was AMAZING.) He deserves every acting award for this role!

Hope you are all doing well, my friends.  Take care and don't forget to appreciate the beauty of flowers. They will rock you!

  2. I could not stop continually commenting about how much the actor playing Brian May looked and acted like him. It was uncanny.

    1. If one wants to blame one generation for the woes of the world that is a very simplistic view. Perhaps one should work for peace between our countries, our generations. We are all people, no matter our color, our sex, our religion, our age, our natural origin. The sooner we learn that, the sooner we can save our planet.

  4. Who does not love flowers? Only the most callous minds can close their hearts to beauty, I believe.
Bohemian Rhapsody is a very good movie. I have read up about it and learned that some things are not strictky correct or in their real chronological order, but then the movie is not a documentary but tries to convey the overall picture - and it does that very well, with all the actors and performers being great.

    1. Who does not love flowers? Oh my goodness, you should come here, I can show you lots! Or rather, there are those who only like "sanitized" flowers from a florist, never mind those nasty wildflowers that just grow without any help! :-)
Yes, there are people here who have these "perfect" lawns that are so laced with chemicals that you will never see one bird on them and the only flowers that bloom are the ones planted by the landscapers that bloom on cue!
We just saw a MAGNIFICENT thing just yesterday, it was a yucca cactus that was blooming right beside a gas station and people were walking right by it and they did not even break their stride to look at it! I pointed it out to Richard. The thing is, it was one of the most PERFECT specimens of this plant that I have ever seen! And I have seen a LOT of them! Perhaps people are distracted now and thinking of other things, I hope that's it!
Yes, a lot of films are that way. However, in filming, it is necessary to alter the facts a bit, and I don't have a problem with that. As someone who would love to direct a film more than anything, I so much admire a film like this one!

    1. Graham, I wish you could meet my Richard! Why, he told me Queen in 1974 and I had never heard of them! Richard saw them in concert in London in 1974 and he said they were GREAT.
Also, Richard is as good at gardening as he is at photography!
So, you would have a lot in common! :-)

  6. Thanks so much for dropping by my blog and "chatting." It's nice to "meet" another GA girl. Looks like you live in Stone Mountain. My husband's cousin is an accountant there but not sure which firm. Sad to say but I've never been there. I need to put that on my bucket list! Like you I leave a LOT of yard work to my husband who is really pretty good at it...not so much with flowers though. That is more my dept. although I sure don't have a green thumb. And it gets so hot here in south GA that come summer time most of the flowers I plant each year are doomed! Hope all is well up your way. Stay safe!

    1. Hello Cheri! Yes, I am truly a Georgia Girl! (Old woman, more like it but hey, my blog, my name! LOL.)
We don't live far from Stone Mountain, we live closer to two other monadnocks (mountains of rock!) in the area...Arabia Mountain and Panola Mountain. All three of these are amazing to visit, put them on your list! Do you know they don't say green "thumb" in England, they say you have green "fingers" if you are good at gardening! Makes sense, really!
I lived in St. Mary's and also Moultrie as a teenager, so I know how different it is in those parts of the state! I enjoyed it though, I love nature wherever I am!
You stay safe too in your part of Georgia! xx

I don't mind planting and creating gardens- that's always fun. It's the constant weeding to keep it looking good that's the hardest part. Weeds never sleep!

    1. Brian May is one talented fellow. Besides being known from Queen, he is an animal rights activist and has a doctorate in astrophysics! I am sure you know this!
Yes, I am much more into the creative side of things. We won't call that being bossy! :-)

  12. Beautiful flowers! If only it would stop raining so that I could plant some of the flowers and herbs on my deck! For people who have land on which to grow things, I believe it is a great comfort during these stay at home days.

    1. We mostly plant everything in POTS! Our soil is not very good so we make the best of it and just have everything potted. We have a few things in the ground, but those things have to be very the very easiest things to grow!

I see that another name for the yellow ones are "Hand of God." I like that.
      Stay well!
