Sir Andy Murray

Tennis, anyone? Did y'all know that I love tennis? Love watching it that is! (Although I did once hit a tennis ball so hard that it made a hole in the net.  I am one strong woman!) It won't be long until I will get to see Wimbledon on TV.  (And it is Wimbledon...not WimbleTON, as I hear it pronounced sometimes on American television.) Anyway, I am trying to tell you about Andy Murray...he is now Sir Andy Murray, as of this year!  He has a matter of factness about him that I find very refreshing.  I have a video here for you...

There, isn't that wonderful? Does anyone else remember it? I saw that afterwards his mother sent him an email, "That's my boy!".  I love that!   (Maybe it was a text or tweet...I can't remember, I just look at the big picture, I try not to get bogged down in details, just like to get the gist of the idea.)

After his hip surgery recently, he came back and won the Queen's Cup in a  doubles match...and perhaps will play in singles matches again. (Although not at Wimbledon, that will be doubles.)

In other sports news, the Atlanta Braves have been playing very well! They are first in their division. I sure do miss watching these games with my Dad. He knew every player by their name AND number and he would notice and comment on each player's "stance" at the plate. He even had nicknames for his favorites. (Remember me telling you that he noticed the player with the ax handled bat? I wonder how many people saw that...it is not easy to see the end of a bat when the player is at the plate.)

Gee, I hope Sir Andy Murray will not be too upset with me talking of baseball like this when this post was supposed to be about him. Something tells me that I don't have to worry...I doubt he will ever know of this post! Ha, ha. Sir Andy, you have a fan in me!

Okay then, WimbleDON should be on TV soon! Who will be in the finals? Who would you like to see win this year?  Do tell me!

  1. We prefer Roger Federer, he is so modest. I'd love him to win this year.

    1. I mean, wasn't that great? But what I loved about it, the automatic way he said it, I meant to tiev that in with Automatic for the People, which is an album by REM, but they got it from restaurant in Athens Georgia! Respect for all,I say!

  3. WimbleDON!!!!!!!! So happy to finally have been told, the correct pronunciation!!!!!

Never played tennis or was interested in it, I fear. So we don't watch it. The only sport we watch now, is baseball. And not that, all the time. It gets frustrating.

Sat. and Sun. 2 of our big baseball teams will play in the UK. Personally, I think it's silly. And it must be being pushed, for none-baseball reasons. But we will watch.

We root for the Yankees!!!!! Which will make it interesting.

But! Does anyone in the UK really care???? I doubt it. Only expats and people who will make some sort of money or power, off of this silly happening.

  4. Her hee, of course you know how to say it but I wish I had a nickel for every time I have heard a "t" in the middle of Wimbledon. I saw they would be playing there, can t see anyone in Britain watching either but hey, what are gonna do? Someone found a way to make money! Our Atlanta Braves have been so much fun this year, a lot of very young talented men who have a great team spirit. Joyful to watch them.

  5. Even though my granddaughter played tennis in high school I know very little about it. But I do know baseball. Your Braves beat my Tigers thoroughly. So have all the other teams. Sigh...

  6. Dear Kay, in my thirties and forties, I was an avid fan of tennis and watched the news about it and the games that were televised. Then, for some reason--not sure why--I lost interest, just as I had and then lost an interest in figure skating. I suspect that I get attached to certain players and when they retire from their sport, I move on to another sport! So I'm fair-weather I think. Peace.

    1. I don't watch as much sports as I did because my husband doesn't care for them like I do. He's good to me though, he lets me watch them and pretends to care!😄 peace to you.

  7. Funnily enough I have been watching a lot of sport but it's been the Women's World Cup football matches not Tennis, including the USA games. I'll probably watch both Murray brothers though when they are on. Also enjoy Alaska The Last Frontier and a lot of other similar American TV shows so the grass is always greener across the pond.

    1. I really envy your announcers over there. I got up very early once to watch the USA play during the World Cup and I thought they were great. Will USA beat England in the Women's World Cup? We will see!

  8. Hi Kay - Queen's was excellent ... and I was lucky enough to be gifted a centre court ticket for Friday and yesterday to Eastbourne ... pictures will be forthcoming. Two Americans in men's final ... Taylor Fritz beat Sam Querrey ... it should be an excellent Wimbledon - cheers Hilary

    1. You are so lucky! Would love to see the tennis in Eastbourne. I would go to the Towner Art Gallery afterwards and have a tea in that upstairs tearoom/cafe...whatever you call it!

  9. I don't really like to watch sports, but David does. He said Federer is his favorite tennis player, and the Yankees are his favorite MLB team.

I do like Federer very much also. Tell David I will come and watch sports with him anytime even those damn Yankees!

  12. I love watching tennis. And, have already watched some of the first day's play at Wimbledon.

I've never been much of a fan of Murray, though. He's always annoyed me somewhat...but that's just me. One can't like everyone!

However, I love Rafa with a passion. Admire Federer, of course...who could not? I am no fan of two of our Aussies...Kyrgios and Tomic. We do have some very nice, fair young Aussies in the game now...so it's time for those two to stop disgracing themselves, the game and their country. I wish they would just disappear and go away from the sport...they are not good sports!

I'm in for some late, late nights...early mornings over the next fortnight! :)

    1. I am reminded of the matches between Borg and McEnroe. Remember those? I used to feel embarrassed over McEnroe's behavior! Still, the Brits seemed to really like him no matter how many tantrums he would throw! I love sports, no matter what the "experts" will predict, you never know for sure what will happen!

    2. Oh dear, saw the Kyrgios in an interview after the match with Rafa. (He said he meant to hit Rafa in the chest!) I can see why you don't like him!

  13. I am not really a sports watcher unless one of my relatives is playing, but I was fascinated by the news about Coco Gauff's win at Wimbledon.

    1. I know! She is only 15! See, that is what I mean, about you just never know what can happen. I love her quote, "the lines of the court are the same" and she tried to remain calm, even if there were all those eyes are her!
