Elephants...R.E.S.C.U.E

R.E.S.C.U.E.

Want to hear about something amazing?  There is an elephant sanctuary in Africa, specifically in Kenya.  It is the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary and it is owned and operated by the Namunyak Conservancy.  (The first community owned elephant orphanage in all of Africa!)
Now, do you know this name- Ami Vitale?  She is an amazing photographer, writer and film maker and I urge you to read a piece that she wrote about the sanctuary in the National Geographic Magazine.   Singing wells in Africa? Learn all about them, the    article is just...
 here!

Do any of you have an Instagram account?  Is that what you call it? Oh dear, I have one and I am not even sure! LOL!
My son set me up on one and he chose the kind of things he thought I would like.  I have learned so much about elephants from this one Instagram account...the one from R.E.S.C.U.E., the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary.  The photos and videos of the baby elephants are just ...I am telling you, they are amazing!
Okay, I have used amazing too much in this post but "causing great wonder" and "startlingly impressive" fits just right!  Let me know what you think!  Who does not love baby elephants?  I ask you who could not?

  1. Such a wonderful place! It does my heart good to know people want to care for their animal neighbors, and so care for this beautiful earth.

    1. It is a wonderful story, this sanctuary for orphaned elephants in Kenya. Of course, people like YOU are caring for animals too and we never hear about it. You are amazing!

  2. Elephants are - like actually ALL animals on our wonderful planet - amazing, no matter whether they are young or old. But of course baby elephants are extra-amazing :-)
I think I heard/read about this sanctuary somewhere else, a while ago, but as usual, can't remember where and when! My mind resembles a sieve most days...

Instagram is not my "thing". The only social media platform I use is this, blogger, for private purposes. For business, I am on XING, similar to LinkedIn but Germany-based. That's enough online life for my liking, but I know Instagram et al are very popular.

    1. I am not good on these kind of things, my son set me up on this account and picked out the kinds of things he thought I would like. It is like a window on the world, I love the elephant sanctuary, the museums, the bird sites...and I have chosen many of the national parks in this country. Great photos that I love to see!

  3. Elephants are such amazing (see...I used the word, too) beautiful creatures. I love, love, love them. :)

I've a few here...not the real deal, of course. But a few ceramic/clay etc., and one that stands about two feet high, by about 2 feet long...thereabouts. Very colourful, and as soon as I saw it in a store back in 1979, just after my ex and I moved from Brisbane up to the Sunshine Coast, I knew I had to have it.

I christened him "Adu"...and Adu has travelled with me everywhere...even across to the islands. And he always travelled with me, in my car...never in the removalists' van! :)

    1. I wish I could have written a better post about elephants. I find them fascinating! I have been intrigued by them for many years, starting with my days watching Tarzan on TV! When our son was little, we were at the Zoo and were invited by the trainer to come close and to touch the elephant on his side. What an amazing thing! You know I did!

  4. Amazing post! (Well, someone had to use that word!) Elephants deserve the very best but alas, do not often get it.

  5. All of life is amazing to me. Our world and all that encompasses us quite unique and wonderful and care should be taken to preserve it. As far as social media goes I only do blogging, it's quite enough to keep me busy.

    1. I don't even have time for blogging these days, let alone anything else! I don't have much time to look at that Instagram account of mine. I only have a few out of focus pictures on mine! :-)

    1. Thanks Nan. I don't even have my email on my blog anymore so I don't know how this is happening. Makes me want to stop blogging period. Sorry you got that.

    2. I doubt it has anything to do with the blog. Just random trolling or whatever it is called. The emails weren't from the blog, just your email address.

  7. And they can walk underwater like a deep sea diver in old films. Apparently a circus was swimming its elephants in Loch Ness as a treat around the time Nessie was spotted. All those humps in a line. A reported fact on TV. Draw your own conclusions...

    1. Oh no, I am sure that Nessie is real! I want to see Loch Ness one day!
If you get the chance, check out the Reteri Elephant Sanctuary. Well worth a visit!

  8. Definitely, I love elephants of any size, Kay. There was a precious video of a baby elephant on Facebook a couple of months ago. The baby was chasing birds around and around and fell. Immediately it got up and ran straight to its mother, who was running toward her baby. So precious! I think Nessie is real too!
