Chasing Flowers At Arabia Mountain!

When we have rain here, we get ourselves to Arabia Mountain as soon as we can.  The water in the pools is crystal clear and the cascading water is lovely to see and hear.  As soon as the water is on the resurrection moss, it turns an emerald green.

We were very lucky today as we met up with Ranger Robby on one of his hikes up the mountain.  Did Robby really dunk his head into the clear cool water to cool himself down?  Take a look at the great photos that Richard took of him!

HA!  Don't you just love these photos!  Look at that one above, with Robby's hair standing straight up!  Great job, Richard! And way to cool down, Robby! (Please note, no water was ingested in this photo...the water is clear but still really not safe to drink.)

The dayflowers were beginning to bloom.

The dayflowers will bloom all through the summer...the photo above is from August from a few years ago, just to show you how lovely they are!

See the close up of the day flower?  There are two petals at the top and one small petal, whitish colored at the bottom.

The spiderwort is also very beautiful on the mountain, and it is almost past blooming now, but we saw some of these blooming right beside the dayflowers on the mountain today. (Almost everyone calls this spiderwort but we like to call it tradescantia, the botanical name just because we like it.)

Ranger Robby, I hope you like these photos! I told you that you would see them on a post!  And thanks for telling me that the wild plums that my Dad is using to make jelly this week is called Chickasaw plums.  I love learning new things about flowers and fruit!

Ranger Robby told me today that he considers himself a "Flower Chaser" and I think that he and I have a lot in common.
Hope you enjoy chasing flowers with us!

PLEASE NOTE:  All wildflowers are protected and one must not pick them. Robby and I will be watching!  And you know Richard will have his camera trained upon you!

  1. Great post, Kay - the best way to start my Saturday morning, having a mug of coffee while reading this and looking at the pics!
Ranger Robby sounds and looks like he is a great guy, fun to be with, but serious about what is close to his heart - the (relative) intactness of Arabia Mountain, its flora and fauna.
Glad you were able to go there right after the rain! Did Richard take any pictures of you holding your head into one of the pools? ;-)

    1. Thanks, Meike, I am happy you enjoy our mountain too!
And yes, Robby IS a great guy, I want to adopt him myself! Look out for more about him in another post!
And no...you will not see me sticking my head into any pool of water. You know I must have proper hair products and make up to look my best, that dousing would not be for me! :-)

  2. Fun shot of Ranger Robby after his cooling off and I wondered why the water is unsafe for drinking and what if people try it. Good point about not picking the wildflowers as too often people do not pay attention.

    1. I should think that the water is unsafe because of the bacteria. I always want to make sure that folks understand me. When I say I chase wildflowers, I only search for them and have my hubby photograph them, but that is the only way that we capture them!

  3. I had to go back and look at the photo of his wet hair, he did look cool. These 100 degree temps here in Georgia are getting to me!

  6. The picture of Ranger Robby reminds me of a photo I have from family holidays in the English Lake District when our 'Uncle' drank from one of the mountain streams and had to do a sort of press-up to achieve it. I, too, love seeing the flowers.

    1. Yes, I see what you mean, Ranger Robby is having to use his strong arms there...another reason for me not to do this, I would be straight into that pool on top of my head!
You can join our "Flower Chasing" Club, Graham! Sounds like my kind of club.

    1. And the rain collects into the pools on the rock and they are crystal clear. Our lakes here are red dirt muddy!

  11. Looks lovely and refreshing. Nothing beats a waterfall in hot weather. I used to stick my head in rivers to cool off as well but its getting harder to get back up on my feet again these days :o(

  12. The water may not be completely safe to drink but I bet Robby's hair and skin felt like silk after that dunking! And I bet he felt very refreshed, too. :)

Another lovely array of photos of what appears to have been a wonderful outing.

  13. Robby has the right idea regarding staying cool--I could do that, without the wet hair flip of course. Haha.

Lovely flower shots as always, Kay G.!

And glad you liked the flowers, we are always very happy to observe them, but most folks just ignore them.
