Views of Atlanta

See these tall buildings in Atlanta, Georgia? This photo was taken from I-75.  We were there today but it was a very overcast day, so I am showing you this photo from last October! It's funny to see them this closely since we are used to seeing just the tops of them from our trips to Arabia Mountain!

Ah, here is the view of Atlanta that I am most familiar with...this is from Turner Field, the home of the Atlanta Braves.   I have been taking our son to see the Braves since he was about six years old.   Since Christopher is in his early 20's now, I have been going here for a while! (And I went to MY first Braves game in 1967 when the Atlanta Fulton County Stadium was on this spot!)  By the way, if you ever go to a Braves game, did you know that you can sign up to be a designated driver and they give you a little paper bracelet to wear and you recieve a voucher for a free soft drink?  (All the while, they solemnly inform you that by wearing the bracelet, you will NOT be served any alcohol!)  Hey, somebody needs to be sober!

Our son called us from Turner Field last night and excitedly told us that he was prepared to enjoy the Braves game...just after, it began raining and was delayed for almost two hours! Oh well, that's baseball!  That's life!  You win some, you lose some and some get rained out! (The Braves played and won!)

And hey, you will never guess what happened in the game! One of the bat boys (I am not kidding, if you don't know baseball, this is what they are called) was asked to rescue a...BAT from the baseball field! And I don't mean a baseball bat, I mean a real mosquito-eating winged animal! It must have been stunned, because later they showed the bat flying away unhurt.  YAY! You never know what you will see at a baseball game!

    1. Thanks, Tessa!
That 2nd photo was taken by my husband when the sun was setting and the buildings in Atlanta were really lit up by the sun!

I have always loved a play on words, and I just loved the BAT BOY with a real bat!

  2. Hi Kay-I saw that on the news about the BAT boy. So funny- would have freaked me out-I do NOT like bats. Glad your son had fun at the game but that was a long delay. I did see that there were lots of storms in that area. Hope you have a great night- xo Diana

    1. Hey Diana!
Why do you not like bats? They are really good to have around, you can even buy or make a bat box to attract them!

Take care and watch out for those low-flying bats, I hear they look for pretty blondes!! So...I'm okay!

  3. Even though I am not an avid sports fan, I have always enjoyed outings to minor league games on some of our road trips.

    1. Since my husband doesn't care for sports, I don't watch them as much as I used to. Baseball is my favorite, although I can watch any sport and get into it very quickly.

I used to be a deranged American football fan, that was in my younger days!

    1. You don't know how right you are! I was so stressed out in that concrete jungle, you have no idea!
I need to be in nature, that is all there is to it.

  6. Don't know if they do in your part of the world but over here some bats carry rabies so picking up a bat is not a good idea. Glad all went well for the bat boy.

    1. The bat was first picked up with a heavy baseball leather glove but when that was not successful, the bat boy scooped it up with the end of a towel. It's not a good idea to pick up any injured animal as they can always bite out of fear.
I found something on bats that I found interesting.

There, hope that link works. Bats really are good guys, eating lots of mosquitoes and they are PROTECTED and I think they are protected in England, as well.
You should NEVER touch a wild animal, as a bite is always possible. We have the AWARE center at the base of Arabia Mountain that we can call for any injured wildlife. http://www.awareone.org/

  7. Congratulations to the Braves, and i hope your son enjoyed it all in spite of the rain.

Bats are some of the most fascinating creatures The Lord created, so i'm glad that one was unhurt.

    1. It has been great fun watching the Braves this year! Of course, it's always fun watching the Braves!

I know a lot of people don't like bats, just like some people are afraid of birds and bees. All good and useful creatures that we should appreciate!

  8. It's been a few years since we've been to see the Braves, we went when they retired Greg Maddox's number, but we never miss a game on tv, saw the BAT boy. Hasn't he heard about rabies in bats?

  10. Oh, I did laugh. How could they possibly have had a more appropriate name than Bat Boy. It sounds like something out of a superheroes movie too. Sometimes "jargon" makes me smile.
Wonderful photo of the light reflected off the towers! wow!
