If you click on the link above, you can read the story of a 72 year old man from Newton County, Georgia named Ernest Smith . (Newton County is right next to Rockdale County, where I live.) You may also see a video of him and the three people who came to his aid after a heart attack. Let's call them Good Samaritans, shall we? That's what they are!
One police officer, a county sheriff's deputy and a nurse performed CPR on the man after his heart attack and luckily, one of the men had a defibrillator which he had never used before! I hope you will find this story as moving as I did. When Ernest Smith speaks, it brings tears to my eyes!
However, if you can keep a person's heart going until the expert help arrives, it seems to me that it might be useful to remember the beat to "Stayin' Alive"...
PLEASE NOTE: I am not a doctor or any kind of medical expert, just a suggestion that taking a CPR class could save a life!
Ending this post with roses from England. Taking time to smell the roses is also good medical advice, I think it is anyway!
I liked the Beegees and I think that is a great idea about taking a CPR class. It has been awhile for me too.

Hey Sandie!
DeleteI don't do Facebook, maybe one day I will!
Saving someone else's life is, in my book, the greatest achievement anyone can reach. These are heroes!
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteI keep meaning to go on a first aid course, it's one of those things I need to make an effort or I will never get around to it. Lovely roses!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a great fondness for all flowers but the roses and poppies in England are very special to me! xx
DeleteCPR has saved many lives. I took a course years ago. Thankfully I've never yet an occasion to use it.
ReplyDeleteI hope that I can remember what to do if I ever need to!

ReplyDeleteThis was an advert running in the UK about a year ago. I read about a woman, who saved a man's life by following the advice she had seen in this video - she had never had any other training. She said as she was doing it she had the song going around in her head.
I have seen accounts of children doing CPR and also just doing what they had seen on TV!
DeleteHaving taken first aid and CPR in the past, i couldn't agree more. It's worth it.
ReplyDeleteThey told us that it is very tiring to do CPR, so it is important to be able to relieve someone who is performing CPR on someone.
DeleteI think you are so smart to take that class. I think it really should be mandatory for anyone with children or elders in the house-xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI think it is something that everyone should know. You just never know when it might be needed. xx
DeleteHey Kay! Excellent advice! As a teacher I was required to take CPR. The young mother of one of my students was saved by a teacher giving her CRP when she collapsed in front of our school. You never know when you might need that skill. Did you know that Audrey's Hubbell just passed away? Take care!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Louise.
DeleteAnd thanks for letting me know of Hubbell's passing. I appreciate you telling me. xx
I get certified every 2yrs...it's required for my job. The recommendations for how to administer CPR changes so if it's been a while people should go take a refresher course. You just never know when you'll need it. I've had to do it only once..hopefully never again, but you never know. Good advice today!
ReplyDeleteI know, it is time for me to take a refresher course.
DeleteThanks for your comment from a REAL medical expert, a NURSE!! xx
Great advice Kay. Thanks for the reminder - it's been a few years since I took a CPR class, so a refresher course is definitely in order.
ReplyDeleteAll the best, and I hope you are enjoying your summer.
Thanks, Mairead!
DeleteHope you are having a great summer too!
You know I am enjoying my Irish calendar as the year is going quickly by!!
Someone just sent me a Forwarded Mail about doing the 100 pushes a minute being better than the old way. I never know what's the best, newest thing. I guess the rule of thumb is something is better than nothing.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if anyone noticed, but I everytime I have CPR in my post, I have a link to the Mayo Clinic which explains CPR! I hope that if I need CPR that someone will try to do it without wondering if they are doing it perfectly!!
DeleteGood advice, Kay, about the CPR and smelling the roses.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, no matter what advice I am giving, you know I have to bring flowers into it somewhere!! xx
DeleteThere's really a huge benefit to learning CPR skills. It is always best to be prepared as you'll never know when you will need to perform this to a person. Emergency situations do happen that may require one to perform CPR skills and it's always great to help save someone.
