Our son's concert at Smith's Olde Bar this past Thursday night was fantastic! The name of the band is The 7's and they were so polished and professional that you would never have guessed this was their first performance EVER! They only had about 45 minutes on stage and yet, even in that time, Christopher managed to give a shout out to his cheering (and sometimes crying) Mom and photographer Dad in the audience. What a guy!
Why did I cry? I couldn't help but wipe away a few tears...after all, C. played a great guitar, and sang some wonderful songs...all that he had written! Two of the songs were completely his own, the rest were co-written with the young man with the blue guitar, Tim. They sounded so good singing together, their harmonies were just a joy to listen to... it was as if the Beatles and the Beach Boys had gotten together to jam. I am not kidding! Wes on the bass guitar and Jim on drums brought the sound all together into a masterful performance.
One thing, it was so dark that it was a bit difficult to get a good photo, even for Richard, but I have some on here for you to get an idea of what it was like. The band only played two cover songs and one of those was "There She Goes" which is a song by a band from the late 80's called The La's. Believe it or not, the 7's sounded just as good as this video clip I have here for you! This video is NOT the 7's but I hope that C. will be able to supply me with a link or video for you soon! Smith's Olde Bar really liked the band, they have been invited back for another gig in September! Yay!

DeleteI felt such an overwhelming sense of gratitude that C. was on stage and singing and playing the guitar. It's hard to explain how thankful I felt when I heard the first notes of the concert. Wait til you hear these songs that I heard, they will blow you away!!

I knew it! Didn't I tell you he'd do great? Of course you knew he was going to, and you didn't need to be nervous at all, but having the joy of seeing your son perform on stage to an enthusiastic crowd must have been quite something - don't blame you for shedding a few tears, dear Kay!

It was great! I hope they will be able to perform an acoustic set at Eddie's Attic, since the sound was really better there. HA! I have been to two music venues and now I am an expert! You gotta laugh at me!

DeleteYou would have loved to hear our son as the lead singer on this song. the other cover song was by The Who...and C. sounded great on that one too!! (Teenage Wasteland).
I am glad it was such a great success. Why not make some home recordings? Windows Sound Recording program should be already on your computer by default. All you need is a microphone to plug into the jack, and there are many free audio mixing programs available that can do almost as much as the professional ones can. Anyway, such a recording could generate some buzz on YouTube and the rest of cyberspace.
ReplyDeleteOur son knows all this. He presented us with a complete CD of all his songs that he had recorded on the computer all by himself. Songs that he had written, all vocals by him and guitar, and keyboard tracks. We were stunned! And this was four years ago!
DeleteThe band is trying to record on some professional equipment, so watch this space!

That LA's song is one of the few counter arguments to my belief that the music died about 1972.

C. did such a great job and the harmonies were just incredible. C. did a few guitar solos also that just blew me AWAY. I am telling you, Henry, you would have been so proud of the "lad"!!! Of course, YOU know where C. gets his talent from and it is not from this Georgia Girl!!!
Make sure your parents know about C. performing, remember C's photo on his Myspace was taken at their house in Bexhill!!

It's always thrilling to see one's kid on stage. I felt that way too when my daughter performed at her piano recital many years ago.
