Elvis- Aloha From Hawaii

Last week, Richard and I enjoyed our son and his band, The Sevens, so very much! It made me hunger for more live music and it also  made me think of all the concerts that I have seen in my life.   During the 70's, my sister and I saw quite a few concerts... Elton John, The Eagles, Rod Stewart, Linda Ronstadt,  and  most wonderful of all...Paul McCartney And Wings!!!  (When Paul  did "Yesterday", just himself singing with his guitar, it was the most magical moment, I can't tell you how beautiful it was!)
My husband and I have seen The Moody Blues in concert SEVEN times! (And we hope to see them again!)

Now, I also had a very fond memory of a concert by Elvis.  I never saw him in  concert but I remember a concert that he did that was on TV in 1973.  I remember it very well and I thought  it was great.  (With a start, I realized that it was 40 years ago.  Gulp. That went quickly!!)
Anyway, I remember it even being on TV near my birthday in April.  When I looked it up, I see that it was broadcast in January, and it was a big deal since it was on Satellite, the first time a concert
had been broadcast in that manner.  But YAY, I looked further and NBC broadcast it in April of 1973 so my memory did not fail me!   I must tell you that I looked it up on Youtube and I have found the whole concert on there!  I have listened to this concert all week, I just minimize it and continue working on the computer  and although I can't see it, I can hear it, and I am amazed at how much I love EVERY ONE OF THE SONGS!

I told Richard that I wish they would show this concert by Elvis on TV.  Guess what? I just found out that in the Atlanta area, it will be shown on one of our public stations: CHANNEL 30, AT 8PM  ON SATURDAY, THE 3RD OF AUGUST!  That is next Saturday, please make a note of it!  I would think that they will show this in the rest of the country at some time.  If you are reading this from another country, I hope you will able to see it on TV too, but for now, enjoy it on Youtube!

I love Elvis Presley.  I think he was a great singer and as I grew up in the South, I always felt so proud of him.  He was SOUTHERN, don't you know, and if you don't know why that makes him special to me, then you just don't understand this Georgia Girl!
OH! And if anyone has anything negative to say, and I don't often say this, but go somewhere else. I will hear nothing against him. Full stop.

Now, tell me, what was your favorite concert?

As much as I loved seeing  Paul McCartney and Elvis Presley on TV,  I must tell you that my favorite is now, The Sevens on July 18th, 2013!!

I hope so much to get some of their music on here, but until then, I think Elvis will be nice.

If you click on his name below, that should get you to the concert that I have been listening to.

Elvis!

Thank you.  Thank you very much.  You're beautiful.

  2. I never saw Elvis but I got to see The Dave Clark 5, Herman's Hermits, Freddy and the Dreamers and when I came to the States one of the first concerts I saw was Gladys Knight and the Pips, and after that Johnny Cash. Good memories and a live concert is the best.

  3. The last hospital I worked in had been given a box at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and free tickets were given on a first come, first served basis. I saw many concerts there, including Don McLean, Leonard Cohen, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. How incredibly lucky we were!

  4. Elvis was stupendously talented. Too bad he got mixed up with that Colonel Tom Parker or whatever his name was. He wasted Elvis's gifts.

    1. Colonel Tom Parker was a shady character. It was a shame that Elvis trusted him so.
I have read that Tom Parker would not have been able to get a US passport so that is why Elvis could never tour outside the country.

  5. Elvis is my top all time favorite singer for sure. I like a few others but he was and is one that I still listen to. Most of the concerts I've seen have been on TV. I'll be looking to see if he will be on our public TV channel here.

Oh, and please let me know if you see this concert on TV, it would tickle me so much if you see it since I called attention to it! xx

  6. He was an amazing person, and from what i understand, he considered himself first and foremost a gospel singer, not a rocker.

No wonder your son is so talented, he was raised by a mother who had great taste in music!

    1. Elvis loved singing gospel music and from what I understand, would often sing it with his friends just for the joy of it. Elvis always said that he was NOT the King, there was only ONE KING!!

My son took over my favorite Elvis CD, I think he still has it!! xx

  7. I agree. Whether you like his music or not, Elvis was immensely talented. It was very tragic that he died so young.

    1. Oh, Martha, just think he died just four years after this concert in Hawaii. I wish so much that someone could have helped him in those later years.

    1. Thanks so much for your comment!! I have read so many accounts of people who he met, actors he worked with, people who worked for him...and they all had such nice things to say about him.
I have a cookbook by the woman who cooked his meals when he was living in California and in the book she said this: "Elvis gave me many things, but I especially love the HOUSE that he bought for me". !!!!! That's Elvis for you!
Visit me again, and you can sign your name at the end of your comment as "Elvis Fan from Memphis" and I will know you are!!! :-)

    1. I like all of those with the exception of The Rolling Stones, I must be the only person on Earth who does not care for them.
Oh, and our son did a great song by The Who in his concert!
He sounded so much like Roger Daltry! HA!! xx

  10. The only pop concerts I've seen live have been in New Zealand and the most memorable (as much for the fact that we had VIP tickets with The Full Works as for the artist himself) was Sting at The Mission in 2011.

    1. I am so glad that you listened to the concert! I found that the songs have a very contemporary feel to them, and this concert was from 1973! That's good music for you, with Elvis as the singer!!

  12. Hi Kay! I do like Elvis' music a lot. In college, I used to go see Dave Matthews in a tiny little local bar....with sometimes as few as about 20 people....shortly before he became famous. And it was always amazing! I met him a few times and he is the nicest guy!

You can say that you knew Christopher before he was famous too!!
Don't know about you, I like that someone is talented, but I like it even better if they are NICE!!! xx

  13. I was still in Hawaii 40 years ago. Why can't I remember the Elvis concert? I think I was about to get married or something like that so maybe that was on my mind. Then again, my brain is like a sieve. Sigh...

    1. Oh, I just knew you would share a memory of it from Hawaii!
Still, if you were about to be married, you would have had a lot more to think about!!
And Kay, we must be alike, I am always saying my brain is a sieve!! xx

  14. I've been a fan my whole life. That concert in 1973 is particularly memorable for me. It was a two hour respite in the sad month my mother was dying of pancreatic cancer. I gave myself that gift, that time of not thinking and just enjoying the performance.

  15. Nope, I've never been much of a Elvis fan, but Arlynda would be right there with you on the front row of any of His concerts--even as Fat Elvis! You know, you girls have your disgusting habits, too!

I love the photos that you show on your blog from Liverpool!
I know that there were lots of bands in the 60's in Liverpool, not just the Beatles...the Mersey Beat, isn't that what they called it?

  19. I once saw an Elvis concert (can't remember when) on TV and Elvis was looking out over cheering people as far as the eye could see. It was obvious what a buzz it gave him, and that was at a late stage in his life, it must never have left him.
