Kyle Maynard On Mt Kilimanjaro!

Kyle Maynard has made it to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro! It was yesterday, Jan. 15th, the early hours of the day on eastern standard time that he along with his team, made it to the top.  It took him ten days to do so and this is from a young man who has arms just to his elbows and legs just to his knees.   I have written about him before on my blog. (Please go and look at those posts from Nov. 27th, "No Excuses" and  Nov. 29th "Kyle Maynard" of this past year.) If you look at the following link you can hear what another man  has to say about him who is a climber who also has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro so he knows that an accomplishment this really is... http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-731657

Kyle, you CAN conquer anything!  I found a short video on  YouTube  that is used as an introduction before his speeches. Please watch it and be amazed.  His story is a very inspiring one and I hope that you share in my admiration of this young man.  Kudos to Kyle!

These pink flowers are camillias and were in bloom on Dec. 26, 2011 at Stone Mountain Park.  Come back soon to Georgia, Kyle!  Maybe I will meet you one day on the walk up trail. Hope so!

    1. Elizabeth,
Why don't we see this wonderful story on the news? Not "edgy" enough, I guess...
      Thanks for your comment.
I hope you are doing well these days!
      Love,
      Kay

  3. Wow, Kyle has already accomplished so much in his life; championship wrestler, author, motivational speaker...! I have to say I was also very impressed with his penmanship :) I plan to read your other posts about him.

    1. Dear Jane,
Isn't he amazing? One of my co-workers knows him from high school, he was on the wrestling team and said that Kyle was indeed, one of the best wrestlers he had ever seen and was not surprised when he became state champion.
Yes! He writes more legibly than I can! What a guy! I hope one day to meet him on that Stone Mountain walk up trail. You know I'll post about it!!!

  4. Such an inspiring story. My husband loves to climb mountains. Mount Rainier was the peak he attained this year. He tries to convince me we should do Mount Kilamanjaro together someday, but I doubt my ability. I know what a challenge it is, since we have watched many documentaries together about this climb. Kudos to this young man for his determination. I wish I had just 1% of his courage.

  5. Hello Kay:
This is such an inspiring story. But, why have we not heard of this? Good news stories are so thin on the ground that it would be wonderful to hear of this young man's achievements and so motivational for other young people who perhaps lack his commitment or drive. Tank you for bringing this to our attention.

    1. Jane and Lance,
I agree with you completely. Why do we know every little movement of the latest movie starlet but not that Kyle Maynard successfully climbed this mountain?
He works very hard with the vets who have lost limbs and also, with children with similar disabilities, and I hate to even use that word, I think we should just say a similar "life situation".

  8. kay, this is incredible! thank you so much, i am in awe after watching this. unbelievable.

i used to work abit at a hospital school for severely physically disabled kids and i learned very quickly that it was the belief and attitude of parents and sign. others that were most important, not the physical limitations.

    wow!

Thank you for your comment! Attitude is so important and I am in awe of those who have such a positive one.
I think we should be reminded of people like this every day!

  9. A most inspiring person. I am often struck by how many people cope with difficult situations so positively and bravely. Joining the blogosphere has opened my eyes to this.

I like camellias because they seem to bring a little bit of summer to a dark cold time. Although I don't suppose it's as dark and cold where you are, as i tis in London today. Just the most horrid weather, dark grey skies and freezing rain.

I'm really glad you liked my book.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I didn't know you used to be a travel agent. How many years did you do the job? Did you ever get to any of the big travel trade fairs?

  10. Dear Jenny,
I am drawn to people who are postive and uplifting like a flower is to the sun.
Camellias are beautiful and so welcome! Even though we might have sunny days, I miss flowers in the winter so love those camellias!

And I LOVED your book! I hope to be able to write about it once I have looked through my notes that I scribbled down about it. (Yes, I really do things like that!)

Oh yes, I was a travel agent for almost twenty years. And I only got to a few travel agent conventions or shows or whatever you call them...didn't even get to travel as much as you would think but I did enjoy SENDING people everywhere on the globe!

  12. Oh my goodness! That is just incredible! My husband and son made that trek up Kilimanjaro in 2001 and it was a huge, HUGE struggle. What a fabulous feat that was for Kyle!
