Stone Mountain January

Very cloudy this past Saturday but it was warm and the air was clean and fresh, so we just had to go to Stone Mountain! It must have rained there in the distance. See the rainbow?

No matter how crowded it is at the top, I always manage to find a secluded spot for us to sit and have our coffee.

That's Richard on the way up and we are almost to the top!

The clouds were magnificent!  After our climb up the mountain, even though it looked as if it could pour with rain at any moment, we couldn't tear ourselves away!  We walked back down the mountain and then we went to the grist mill which is beautiful at any time of the year.

Now you have seen Stone Mountain in the winter which has a beauty of its own.    Did you enjoy coming along with us today and being out in the warm fresh air?  Hope so!

  2. No matter how many times you have taken us to Stone Mountain, this area is always beautiful to look at, and I imagine it must be even more beautiful when you are there for real! Thank you for a lovely hike while we are having a few rather chilly, wet, gray days over here.

  4. kj,
So happy that you liked the photos, it was hard to choose, we took 105 photos that day! The clouds were amazing from the top of the mountain, we were so close to them. We always have that trusty thermos with us!

  5. Librarian,
It did occur to me that you might get tired of Stone Mountain, but we do love it so. I would LIVE on it if they would let me. This time last year in Atlanta, the whole city was completely shut down due to a freakish snow/ice storm. I love snow...on a Christmas card!
You would enjoy going up Stone Mountain, not just for the exercise but once you are at the top, the views! There is something about being "above it all", it makes me understand real mountainclimbing.

Thank you! And it is amazing, easily the best place to visit in the Atlanta area.. that is why you always see so many folks at the top!

  9. Thanks Jane!
Depending on the weather, the views are different every time we go.
If you ever are in Georgia, don't miss it!

  11. Scriptor,
We were so lucky that it didn't rain! It just sprinkled a bit just as we were getting to our car...
Oh, and that last grist mill photo, it is my idea to go back to the same spot and see how it looks for each season of the year. (The rock wall has a slightly brownish rock there, so I will know where to stand...so look in the future for it!)

  14. Lovely pictures again. I had forgotten all about the Grist Mill.
Loved the wide open skies - just like the skies we get on the Isle of Lewis.

Did you enjoy breathing the Georgia air on top of Stone Mountain?
It is the BEST place to breathe in all of the Metro Atlanta area!
We LOVE Stone Mountain, come back to visit me, I promise you will see more photos...we were just there yesterday! Did you see my post on the man playing the guitar as he climbs it, wonderful!
