I See Faces In Things

Can you see what looks a bit like a face of a lion in this loaf of bread?  Maybe a lioness or a young male lion without a mane?

I have showed this before.  This rock is at my church and it looks like a face too, doesn't it? If you go back up to my header photo of the sunrise, look at the right of the photo and just there in the pine trees, it looks like another face of a lion.  Pareidolia is the imagined perception of a pattern or meaning where it doesn't actually exist.  Now, I see these faces in these objects, I didn't put them there, they are there, anyone can see them.  Does that mean they don't exist?   The video from YouTube is one that I hope you will watch all the way until the end.  I think it's pretty funny.  It is my hope that it will not offend anyone...I actually found it on a blog by an Episcopal priest who used to come to St. Simon's when our regular priest was away.   And yes, I am also "mildly Episcopalian".

Before I forget, today is the 95th birthday of Louis Zamperini.  If anyone missed my post about him, I wrote about him recently and called him a hero in our time.   He is.  Happy Birthday, Mr. Zamperini!

  1. Hello Kay...loved the video! I'm up way too early (3.45) on a cold dark Friday because of my cough and was so cheered to see this post from you! I DO see the faces...the bread is just like one of the lions in Trafalgar Square! So funny. 1. Dear Rachel,
Hope you are getting better now! I LOVE the lions at Trafalgar Square! It pleases me to think that I made a likeness of one in bread. Take GREAT care of yourself and save your voice!

  2. Kay, this is hilarious, thank you for giving me the first good laugh of today :-D

I think there is yet another term to describe not only when people see patterns in things, but specifically for when they see faces. Pete (PerlNumquist) has written about it, I think. And I can see the lion in the loaf, too, but I doubt I would have done, had you not pointed it out.

    1. Dear Librarian,
Oh, I was hoping to make you laugh! And am I too late to send happy birthday wishes to your DAD on his 70th?
I must tell you that the girl with guitar and the Darth Vader mask reminded me of YOU!
Did you notice the small lion's face in the pine trees at the top too?

    2. My Dad's 70th is on Tuesday, Kay, so you are not too late yet :-)
I'm afraid there is no lion in the pine trees for me...
Darth Vader guitar girl reminded you of ME??? Is that a good or a bad thing? :-D
(It's the bloke who poses for Jesus, isn't it, so it is not a very "girly" girl...)

    3. Dear Librarian,
Hope ya'll have fun celebrating your Dad's 70th!
It is only a tiny lion face in the pine tree to the right, but it doesn't matter, just my silliness.
Oh, and I did NOT mean to offend you! Is it the same young man in the Darth Vader mask as Jesus? I just thought it was a very fit young woman. Don't know why I thought of you, it is just funny and I thought that might be something you would do for a laugh!

    1. Dear Kay,
Hey, I have to squint at almost everything these days! (Ha, ha, sorry for my age reference here.)
I know it's always nice in Hawaii, but guess what, I think Georgia is having the mildest winter I have ever known, but my 84 year old Dad said it's not over yet...

  5. That was hilarious and so well done! If it makes you feel any better, I see faces in trees (and in melting snow) everywhere I go, and quite often stop to take a pic. Your loaf of bread does have a lion happening on the left end - but I'm sorry, I don't see anything in the pines... !!

    1. Dear Jane,
I also see heart shapes in lots of places too, drive my husband crazy noticing them...
Can't you see it, just a tiny lion face or perhaps a cat face in the right side of the photo, just midway in the pine tree? It looks more like that cat in the cartoon that used to say ,"Exit, stage right"...can't remember his name...

    2. Now that I've taken an even closer look, I do see a tiny cat face! And the heart :) I have a photo somewhere I took years ago of a sunflower with bees on it that are in the shape of a happy face - I used to call that my Bee Happy pic - if I can find it, I'll post it one of these days.

    3. A sunflower with bees in the shape of a happy face! Do share that, would love to see it!
There is a sunflower festival just down the road from my Dad's house which they have every July 4th weekend, so look this summer for some of my sunflower photos (or my husband's, if you're lucky!)

  7. How neat! Isn't it fun to find such faces...and I see hearts in many things. I actually spotted a sideways heart on the right hand side of the header photo!

Oh, yes I see it too! Blue Heart Sideways, don't you think that would be a good title for a country album? :-)
Thanks for your comment and I noticed that you are one of my followers now, thank you!

  8. You're not alone! I happily 'suffer' from the same thing. I see faces in trees, food, clouds, my garden, etc, etc... I think it's rather fun. And yes, I do see the lion's face on your loaf of bread, and the face on the rock.

    Loved the video! It's hilarious.

  10. Why, Kay, the cat is Snagglepuss, of course! "Heavens to Murgatroid!" The video is hilarious, just like you are. Keep up the great blogging.

Hey, girl! You know, I had to type in, "Exit, stage left cartoon " into a search engine! Could NOT remember the name "Snagglepuss"! At least, I remembered his face, and I am glad YOU can see too! :-)
Do you really read my blog? It has been so much fun but sometimes when I think of people reading this, I get all nervous...I am more myself in my comments, isn't that strange?

  12. Definitely, i keep up with your blog. It is a great thing to do on those sleepless nights. If you are "more yourself" then that can only be good. BTW, I see the lion in the pines.....

    1. TW,
That makes me happy that you read my blog! You know, "I see the lion in the pines" sounds like a good beginning for a poem or perhaps some new age philosophy...you could work on that.
