See the planets all lined up tonight!
Seven of the planets - Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune (along with the Moon!) will align in the night sky just after dusk today. (February 28th). Isn't that wonderful? This might be a bit later in other parts of the world, I think it is next week for Europe. Check out your part of the world to see when you may see this viewing!
Now, did this make anyone start singing a song? You know I did!
"When the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars, Then peace will guide the planets, and love will steer the stars".
"Age of Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In" was a huge hit in 1969. It spent six weeks at number one on the charts in the spring of that year. The song came from the musical "Hair". Anyone else remember this? The 5th Dimension was the group behind the hit. Two of the singers from that group, Billy Davis, Jr and Marilyn McCoo married and have been together for fifty years. Isn't that great?
Reading just a bit about this couple, they released an album in 2021, "Blackbird Lennon -McCartney Icons". Just as the title suggests, they are singing songs by the Beatles! Of course, you know that means that they have good taste. Just an aside here, I once saw them on a plane in the early 1980's. We had stopped in Las Vegas, just for a stopover and they got off the plane in Vegas! (I was on a plane headed to Reno. The only time I ever went there, and I got to see Lake Tahoe. I think that lake might be the prettiest lake ever- the clear, deep blue of that water! I have never forgotten it.)
Just a few sky photos for you above. Hey, the planets don't have to align for me to look up. I find the skies amazing all the time!

Oh, that peace would guide the planets and love would steer the stars!
Beautiful sky photos!
ReplyDeleteI heard about the planets lining up, unfortunately it's very cloudy here.
Thanks! It was cloudy here a bit too but I think it was all the light from the state highway that made it difficult for us to see the planets. I think we saw at least two of them but that might just be my wishful thinking. When I was a kid we went to the beach and my Dad told me there was people living across the water. I looked very hard at the horizon and said, "I think I see them!" I kept my Daddy laughing all the time!
DeleteThe announcer on the news tonight called the planetary alignment "the planet parade" -- I thought it was a cute name!
ReplyDeleteWell dang, I saw that same expression "planet parade" and was going to use it on my post but forgot it! Thanks for leaving it here in a comment!
DeleteHow fitting that song is for this occasion. I didn't get to see it happen. We were out for the evening and inside at the time; Peace on Earth would be wonderful !
ReplyDeleteFor me, there is a song for everything!
DeleteThank you for linking to my blog!
ReplyDeleteAs you know, same as you I am forever fascinated by the sky, no matter the time of day, weather or season.
You know I agree, we are always looking up! (Or out, depending on the view. LOL!)
DeleteI have heard of the planets lining up - but honestly didn't know much about it - thanks.
ReplyDeleteI kept meaning to write about this but only managed it on the very day. That's me!!
DeleteToo many clouds here. I was disappointed. Yes the sky is always beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is the one is most knowledgeable about astronomy. I just like interesting and pretty things!
DeleteI was staying in a remote bothy recently with an amazing canopy of stars above at night. Unfortunately, it's normally so cold in Scotland, even in summer, I only lasted 5 minutes before rushing inside again to the fire. That's why I always prefer star watching outdoors in hot countries. Picking out the 7 planets here, even in March, would mean extending the misery well beyond comfort levels :o)
ReplyDeleteI totally understand! In fact, I started to put a note on this post to say to NOT go outside in the dark to see the planets unless you had a flashlight (you say "torch", I think) and to be sure and wear warm clothes if it was cold! You must be a mind reader! Comfort can also mean safety!
DeleteIt's been wonderful to see this planetary alignment ... young and old have been very interested in it.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Something we can all look up and hope to see, that sounds like a good thing. Perhaps, it is still to come for you? It seems it was a bit later in Europe.
DeleteAlso meant to say, happy new month of March.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Happy March to you too!
DeleteThere's too much light pollution here to see much besides the Moon, but I'm sure the line-up was amazing. The skies are always a delight to look at, aren't they.
ReplyDeleteWe have the horrible light pollution where we are also. Honestly, you would think we were in Vegas or something!!
DeleteI did not see the Planet parade, as it was cloudy here. But as soon as I read your pblogpost-title tha song began palying inside my heasd. It fits perfectly! And what a hope. We need ome more sympathy and trust abounding ...
ReplyDeleteLet's just imagine a time when a song was on the radio that mentioned "sympathy and trust abounding". Let's just think about that. Thanks for your comment! I left a comment on yours but had to translate it to English and when I hit the "comment" button, I'm not sure if it went through. Happy March to you!
DeleteWait, I tried to leave a comment on "Uncle Dan's Cookbook". The other blog I looked at was one with a lovely St. Patrick's Day cake! That comment went through!
DeleteThe one with the St. Patricks cake is my "real" blog. The other one is just recipes, mostly those kids and friends ask for all the time, so I do not have to copy and send ;) I think I disabled comments for "Uncle Dan" ;) Thank you for visiting!
DeleteThanks for telling me! I do love the seasoned salt that we buy, it is a seasoning we always use! Not sure if we can make it here, we don't have lovage. ( Love, but no lovage. LOL)
DeleteYes, we did go outside on the night of the 28th, and saw most of them. We were lucky it was a clear night. My husband used an app on his phone to identify each one for us, but a couple were below the horizon. it was fun. I haven't done star-gazing for years.
ReplyDeleteYou might be the only one who saw them clearly! ( Of those who left me a comment, I mean.) Wish I could have been with you! I would have brought you some Moon Pies and we could have celebrated! Oh, and I might have tried to make cookies in shape of the planets. You must have a great night sky!
DeleteGlad you saw something. No chance here. Good pictures!
ReplyDeleteHey! Thanks, you know these are photos from Richard!
