Anybody remember who first named the clouds? (I told you I would test you on my blog posts!) It was an Englishman by the name of Luke Howard, you can remember it because it should remind you of "look high-ward"! Richard took a photo of the sky in the early morning recently. Now, is it an alto cumulus or could it be strato cumulus? Or something else? Not sure, I just know it was beautiful.
We have had some stormy weather lately. I had Richard take a photo of the TV screen to show you the lightning we had one evening. 155 strikes in a span of 10 minutes. And the white strikes all bunched together on the screen? We are directly under that! Scary!
We have hot sunny days and then, we will have thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening...plenty of time for birds and butterflies!
The Zebra longwing butterfly...it is not that common to see here in Georgia. It is the state butterfly for Florida! It is a very fast butterfly...I took this photo through a window, and as soon as I took the photo, it was gone!
Goodness me, I hope you are all getting along okay these days! How about some music? You know you can count on me!
Oh! I watched a documentary again on TV that I really loved. "Hitsville: The Making of Motown". If you haven't seen it, make sure you do! You will thank me! I have David Ruffin singing for you here. You know the song!
We've had a fairly dry summer and hotter than usual although this past week was picture perfect...cool evenings and temps in the 70's during the day. The lightening strikes look pretty impressive! I'm not a fan of lightening since we got hit once and it cost a bit to get all the electric back up and running! Take care and thanks for the music to end the day!
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of any storms, living in Georgia with thunderstorms and tornadoes! Your temps sound just right to me now, I love the 70's during the day! Hopefully, it will cool down here but it might take until November! Take care!
DeleteThat skyscape is beautiful - thanks, Richard!
ReplyDeleteAnd the zebra butterfly, I don't think I've ever seen one with that particular shape of wings. I wonder who came up with the idea to have state flowers and butterflies and who knows what else.
Thank you for recommending the documentary; I love Motown and will try and find it to watch.
We even have state songs here! Can you guess the one for Georgia? It is Georgia On My Mind", of course!
DeleteSo happy to see the Zebra butterfly in our garden, we have seen it at Stone Mountain before but to just look out and see it, that is the best!
Oh! You will LOVE the documentary, I know you will! When you have Smoky Robinson and Berry Gordy together laughing and reminiscing, it just makes for such joyful viewing!
And I will tell Richard you liked his cloud photo! I didn't get to see it, so I was glad he took the photo. xx
It's much the same here, especially down in London with 30c plus temperatures and hundreds of lightning strikes. Love that butterfly and amazing how they survive the poor weather conditions.
ReplyDeleteYes, we see some pretty beaten up butterflies at this time of year with bits of their wings missing!
DeleteTake care and stay cool!
Wow, those are beautiful clouds although I have no idea what the technical term for them would be.
ReplyDeleteWhat? I am depending on you to tell me exactly what I am seeing now, Debra! LOL!
DeleteI just see the beauty of them really, I was amazed at them, even if I only saw them by the photos that Richard had taken. (I was at work, inside!)
I hope you are keeping inside during those lightning storms. It is dangerous for sure. Glad you are still having sunny skies to enjoy the butterflies too. They are beautiful. Here were are quite comfortable with low 80s and blue skies.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes indeed. "When thunder roars, head indoors".
DeleteLow 80's, that sounds wonderful! Send it to Georgia!
We have had times this year when the thunder rolls are continuous. It sounds like our neighbor working on his motorcycle for long periods of time.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like my neighborhood! Between those working on motorcyles and cars, it can sometimes trick us into thinking we are hearing thunder!!
DeleteThat storm I was telling you about, it really was one of the worst for thunder and lightning ever. Even that weather gal said so!
Kay, I love the motown sound. I miss hearing that sound on the radio. Lightening strikes are scary. Power outages and fires sometimes. Like in California. Pray for them. Hope all is well there. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteSure would be afraid of wildfires. Can't imagine having to worry about them heading your way.
DeleteTake care of yourself, Susie and Ted also! xx
I love rainy days with a "little" thunder...but leave off the lightning please!!! I'm definitely a Motown fan! My era of music for sure:) I could listen to it all day vs watching awful TV these days!!! Love the cloud photo...beautiful! I spend time a lot of mornings praying and looking at the clouds:)
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked the cloud photo too! Search out that documentary if you can,you will love it, I know!!
DeleteEven before I read your post I was humming that song. Your photos are gorgeous and I bet the lightning was incredible to watch. I love a good thunder storm.
ReplyDeleteHey Cherie!
DeleteLook, there is a comment above from CHERI from the USA and you are CHERIE from Yorkshire, England! I am sorry, it really is the simple things that amuse me!
I didn't watch the lightning, Richard did from an upstairs window, he even took a video but then, he is braver than I am!
Keep humming songs, it's good for you! xx
It's the simple things that amuse me too. x
DeleteYou will like my post I just did about ice cube trays!☺
DeleteI'm not afraid of thunder and lightening, but I am sure I would not have liked so many strikes so close together. That is an amazing photograph of the sky. I don't believe I've ever seen clouds that look like that. Beautiful. And I also love the motown sound and will look for that documentary.
ReplyDeleteYES! Please let me know if you liked that documentary as much as I did! I will let Richard know you like his photo also! He really is a great photographer, I honestly didn't know how good until I had my blog! xx
DeleteYour photos are lovely. Thunder and lightening are not common here in Hawaii, but when it happens, wow!
ReplyDeleteThanks! And I don't know if I will ever get to Hawaii but if not, I can say I have Gigi and David and also, Kay & Art who have given me great photos of their lives in Hawaii! Thank you! xx
DeleteI like the song. We've had some heavy downpours with lightning here.
ReplyDeleteHey John! Are you watching the Mets on TV? It's strange, baseball this year, isn't it? I still watch the Braves!
DeleteGlad you like the song! And stay out of the storms!
Take care.
I love the song...always have.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love rainy nights...and rainy days... :)
The wind that was blowing its heart out over the past few days has finally left us here. Not fond of strong winds...one never knows what harm they may bring with them.
Best wishes, Kay...keep taking good care. :)
Funny I did that post last week and today was one of the rainiest days ever! I think we had two inches of rain just within the morning hours and I don't think we saw the sun all day. Still, it is a good song though!
DeleteYou take care, Lee!!
Of course I had to go looking for the type of cloud Richard took such a lovely photo of, Kay. My best guess is "cloud streets." Isn't that fun? These are long rows of cumulous clouds that form parallel to the direction of the wind. Technically they're called horizontal convective rolls. As air rises up it cools and forms clouds. To form these lines you have to have descending air on each side. If you get a number of these alternating ascending and descending air masses aligned with the wind you get cloud streets. I found this here: https://vancouverisland.ctvnews.ca/weather/morning-cloud-streets-over-sooke-1.2235414
ReplyDeleteBeautiful hummingbird and zebra butterfly, and song! We get a lot of lightning strikes here, but what you got is something else! My heart sure goes out to all the people on the Louisiana coast tonight. I am heartsick at the thought of what is going to happen, and I hope that all the people got safely out of the way.
Hugs to you, my friend.
Louise, you are brilliant! YES!! The clouds must be exactly that..."cloud streets", I love it! We had never seen clouds exactly like that before, so we had no idea. Thanks very much for telling me this here!
DeleteI know what you mean about the hurricane, I pray for them all.
Take care, Louise, out there in lovely Colorado!! xxx
We were having a very dry, hot summer, but it's starting to cool off. Well... It's only been two days so it could get hot again. We could use some rain over here.
