Coco Gauff On To The Next Round At Wimbledon!

Remember me telling y'all I like Wimbledon?  I so much wanted to see the match today with the 15 year old Coco Gauff  and Polona Hercog!  At work today, I would look at my phone from time to time and check the live scores at the Wimbledon website.  Oh dear, she was not doing well at the beginning but... I was cheering her on by phone, you know I was!  Come on, you can do it...don't be discouraged. Keep calm and keep playing!  What a comeback! (I only know this from the numbers that I saw on the Wimbledon website, but I know enough about tennis to understand what an effort it would have been to regroup and to make that comeback.)  Coco Gauff won her match and will advance to the next round!  I am home now watching the match on TV. (You know I recorded it.) I just paused it, so I can type this for you!

It is quite funny to know the outcome and listen to what the announcers are saying...they didn't have much hope for Coco Gauff to win.  Let me just say, THAT is what is so great about sports. You NEVER know!  And I am so doggone pleased that Coco won, you would think I knew her personally or else won a great deal of money on a sports bet! (Neither one is true, I just felt like she could do it and she did.)
Cori "Coco" Gauff was born in Atlanta, Georgia! I bet she knows this view at Stone Mountain! Her father played basketball at Georgia State University.  (She lives in Florida now but I am sure she visits Georgia.)

What do y'all think?  Isn't she amazing?  I am cheering for her, even if I have to do it by looking at my phone!

Update:  I have now watched that long match!  So happy I recorded it! At the end, Coco stayed and signed autographs. Did anyone notice the Chelsea pensioners that she spoke with and signed autographs for? That made me very happy to see that! And her parents posed for photos long after the match was over! My kind of people!

Also, in the match...it is my belief that the bird that landed on the court brought her luck.  You can believe it or not, but y'all know I love birds and I think that it is so.
It was a black and white bird and I wonder if any of my British friends can tell me what it was? Looking at photos, I think it might be a pied wagtail. It was a sweet little thing.

Update: Coco lost today (July 8th) but she did so incredibly well! Look forward to seeing her play at Wimbledon next year!

    1. I wish her the very best also! I love she is doing so well. It really was funny to go back and listen to that match because at the beginning, the announcers were basically just thinking the other opponent had already won it. Wrong! :-)

  4. Young Coco Gauff is doing so, so well. She's into the last 16 now...and if she keeps on playing the way she is, she progress even deeper into the tournament. From the looks of her talent, she has a very bright tennis future ahead of her.
It's great to see young players of high calibre and talent coming into the game.

I'll be awake through to the wee small, and larger hours of tomorrow morning again...our own Ash Barty is playing tonight, and another fellow Aussie, John Millman (he has good manners)...as are Rafa and Feds. So a Nana Nap is the order of this afternoon! :)

    1. Everything stops for Wimbledon! Guess what, I saw some great photos from Instagram this week from Worthing...great shots of the pier that now has stained glass down the middle of it...really beautiful but there were no people! Didn't see hardly a single soul in those photos and then I realized...Wimbledon! Yep, that could explain it!
Wasn't that match INCREDIBLE? Talk about NEVER giving up!! I enjoyed it very much, guess you can tell. LOL!

    1. I think she is just great! And she is only 15!! She doesn't even have a driver's license, for Pete's sake! And she is kind and has such composure. Man, that is very nice to see these days.

    1. I know! ONly 15, it is easy to forget that, she is so mature and all together. At 15, I could not get up in front of the class without shaking. OH heck, what am I saying, I can't get up in front a group of people NOW without shaking!

  10. She has an amazing talent. There are a lot of up and coming youngsters waiting to take over from the current batch of greats. I am a Wimbledon lover too and we have the ability to watch every match on every court now. So there's no lack of choice.

    1. Yes, I am sure that they are repeating that match, it was so good! The match was played this past Friday, on July 5th.
The wonderful thing...this 15 year old is NOT a prima donna, just the opposite, so that is another reason I am a big fan!
And I am so old, I barely remember 15!

  13. Good for Coco! She seems a nice unspoiled girl. I wonder if the bird was a magpie.

    1. No, I know what a magpie looks like, I have seen them before in England, they are much bigger! This one looks just like the photo of the pied wagtail, and guess what, I looked further and it is a sign of good luck! I love birds.
