The Archies (Sugar Sugar)

I wonder how many people started singing a song just as soon as they heard the royal baby's new name?  You know I did! The song "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies was a big hit in 1967.  It was the number one US single OF THE YEAR!  I knew it was a big hit in the USA but what about in England?  Turns out ,it was at number one for 8 weeks in the UK!  I learned today that the lead singer was Ron Dante and that HE was the lead singer for "Leader of the Laundromat", a parody of "Leader of the Pack".  (My Dad loved parodies and we had that record, I remember it well.) It amused me to know that Ron Dante sang on both of those records!

"Sugar Sugar" might sound dated today but it was a great song when you were on roller skates. When I hear that song, I am transported back to the early 70's and I can feel myself skating to the beat of that song. (Yes, it was a big hit in 1969 but with a catchy tune like that, it was still being played at roller rinks.)

Ah music!  I hope that I never run out of songs in my head!
"His shirts always came back brown...brown...brown."!!
My Dad always liked funny songs!

Look at these darling eggs.  These were at my Dad's house from 2 years ago.  He was so excited to show me this nest and was pleased that I took a photo of them. I think it was a mockingbird's nest.
Happy Spring to you all.

  1. Your dad and I would have had a great time listening to what I call silly songs. Leader of the Laundromat is high on my list of favorites. Sugar Sugar is one of those feel good songs that makes me smile and I have to sing along.

  2. Never heard Leader of the Laundromat before, that is funny. Parody songs are among my favorites.

  3. Now, it's funny, when I play that song it reminds me of something but I can't remember exactly what. I kind of remember a cafe ... I'm going to be puzzling over that all day! :)

  4. Hi Kay - lovely fun song ... not sure I was thinking about it - but I think I prefer the original of the laundromat song - but they have great tunes. Your Dad sounds amazing with his knowledge ... and those birds eggs are quite delightful ... cheers Hilary

  5. I remember 'Sugar Sugar', though I thought of Archie and Jughead when I heard the new little prince's name. Ha! Rollerskating - now that takes me back a long way. ;-)

  7. Always liked Sugar, Sugar. Never heard of the Detergents. My parents liked the funny songs of Allan Sherman https://youtu.be/4yvtRCWIUWc and Weird Al https://youtu.be/Gg8BT9bVE7s

  8. I well remember SUGAR, SUGAR...HONEY, HONEY!! They just don't make music like they used to!!!! Can't wait for next Feb. when my old high school is having a BIG reunion with a local band that we danced to...THE MALIBUS. We will definitely be listening to some fabulous oldies but goldies! Love the picture of the nest with eggs. I usually take one or two of those each spring as we always have birds that nest on our porch in the ferns. However, this year a tiny little bird has made a nest in my geranium (making it very difficult to water!) The babies have hatched and they are soooo little. By the way, LEADER OF THE PACK was one of my very favorites:) but never heard the parody of it as I recall. Good memories!

  9. Know the song well. Lovely nest and eggs. Childhood memories of searching hedgerows for that sight- my earliest obsession.

  10. I certainly remember that song from my younger years! Hi, I'm Tina and I discovered your blog a few weeks ago. Love reading through it and as a matter of fact, you inspired me to purchase the book Dear Paul, Dear Stephanie. Currently it's in route so I don't have it yet.

    Great blog!

  11. I'm going to have "Sugar Sugar" playing in my head all evening. I used to like the song very much, but haven't thought of it in a while. The birds eggs are gorgeous. It always amazes me to think so many wonderful birds are born and survive in such fragile homes.
