It's Now Or Never (TV Ad With ELVIS SONG!)

One of my co-workers saw this commercial on TV and they told me that I would love it.  Oh boy, were they right!
Not only do I love the song here with the great vocal by Elvis but I like the dancing too.  Too bad I could care less about what they are advertising!  Notice that at the end when the jukebox gets crushed, the woman goes over to the piano and starts singing and they all join in.  Great! Don't you think so too?

Do you know the story behind the song "It's Now Or Never"?

Elvis Presley was stationed in Germany during his stint in the U.S. Army. While there, Elvis heard a recording of "There's No Tomorrow" which was a hit for Tony Martin. (The melody is the same as "O Sole Mio".)  Elvis must have really liked it. After his discharge, he asked for new lyrics to the tune. (Written by Aaron Schroeder and Wally Gold, supposedly in only 20 minutes!)  The song was a huge hit in 1960. When Elvis performed it in concert in the 70's, he would explain the origin of the song and have one of the singers sing a few lines of the Italian version, "O Sole Mio" before continuing with "It's Now Or Never".

Okay now, you can all go and practice the dance moves in this commercial AND sing the song.  Go on, you know you want to.

Hope you all have a blooming good April!

    1. Most of the TV adverts are dreadful. I thought this one showed some imagination. Also, anything with Elvis will always be a winner in my book!

  4. Sing, maybe, but only because there is no one else in the room. Dance, no, not even alone!

  5. That was fun. Of course I was a teenager when Elvis made the record and loved it. Did you notice Arlo Guthrie pop up when the video finished?

  6. But... but... but... the advert is so sad, really! I like it, yes, but it makes me want to run all the way to where O.K. lives, grab him and hold on to him just in case anything should happen...

    1. Now, now...it is only a TV commercial. I don't think that the world will come crashing down on us JUST YET.
;-) But just in case, let's hold on to our men as tightly as possible!! And practice the dance moves, I know you can do them!

  7. I didn't know the origins of that song. That's interesting, and it was really great of Elvis to acknowledge that he "borrowed" the song and even got parts of the original version to be played at his concerts. It must have been a real treat for the people there too.

    1. Ah, Elvis...I have read that if you hadn't seen Elvis in concert, you really didn't know what Elvis was all about, that is what he was like as an entertainer.
The phrase, "Elvis has left the building" came about because PEOPLE WOULD NOT LEAVE HIS CONCERTS, just kept hanging around waiting for another encore!

  9. Hi Kay! I wanted to stop by to tell you how much I appreciate your prayers for my surgery last Monday. Diana posted a prayer request on her blog and I am full of gratitude! I am slowly recovering but wanted you to know how very much I appreciate you thinking of me. :-) My 11 year old daughter loves Elvis :-) I look forward to following your blog and getting to know you better. Have a wonderful week!

    Blessings,

You have made my day by leaving this comment and following my blog! You are a sweetheart!!!
Your 11 year old loves Elvis, that is wonderful!
You should make sure she watches the movies he made in the 60's. He was simply WONDERFUL with any any of the kids in the films, you could tell he really liked them, not in a creepy way but just genuinely liked being around them!
Hope you are doing much better now! Take care! :-)

  10. Liked the video. Not too keen on the Tequila though after getting a bottle for my Christmas a few years back. An acquired taste.

  13. So interesting, Kay! I never put two and two together to realize that It's Now or Never was sung to the melody of O Sole Mio which I knew very well. After a week in Sarasota, FL, Im back in Ohio which is typical April with snow predicted for Friday.......But I know Spring is here and a lot is blooming in my yard.

I hope our friend Pat saw this post too! Maybe she should hold off dancing until she recovers from her surgery but then, she has my permission to dance too!
(Of course, everyone has to have MY permission! HA HA!)

    1. Hey Lee!
Not too late, it isn't as if it is NOW OR NEVER, ha ha!
Don't you love that Elvis heard this wonderful melody and wanted new lyrics to it so that he could sing it?

    2. As I wrote in my previous post that I'd didn't post - :) - Elvis will always be the King, not Michael Jackson who I've never been able to stand. I've never had any of his music...but Elvis...yes, I was and still am a fan. He was just wonderful...and so is this song. I knew the story behind it but it's great to be reminded of it again. :)
