Tap, Tap, Tap...Time To Do Something Else!

Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever been truly enjoying something in your life and suddenly, someone comes along and taps you on the shoulder and says, "Sorry, you have to come with me and do THIS" and the "THIS" that you are required or obligated to do is AWFUL and something that you really dislike!
Or is it just me?

In 1980, I was in Cozumel, Mexico, enjoying the first snorkeling I had ever done in my life.  I enjoyed it very much, the sparkling clear water, the brightly colored fish and the wonderful, beautiful air just above my head!! THEN, along comes the person tapping on my shoulder and I had to do the scuba diving which I did NOT enjoy. The instructor put too many weights on me and I dragged the ocean floor like an overweight anchor.

I have other examples, but you get the idea! My blog is something that I have truly enjoyed but these days, I am so exhausted that I have been unable to write in the evenings.

Never mind, I will be climbing one of my mountains this weekend, maybe TWO of them and nobody will be tapping on my shoulder, telling me to do something I don't like!

How about some music?  I need some!

  1. Give yourself a break. I took a month off and simply reposted some of my favorite posts. You surely have some that we would enjoy seeing.

  3. Sorry to hear work is still so exhausting, leaving you with no energy to do the things you enjoy.
Half of the week is nearly over, and the weekend will be here before you know it - then you'll get out and on one or two of your mountains! Yay!!!

  4. That's why I post less often than I used to - I started out posting every day, then M-F, then M-W-F, then Tuesday and Friday and now, pretty much just Friday. I was tapped by my Scottish Clan organization to be the Treasurer for the US and it's been a bit overwhelming - not enjoying that so much. :) I have to be careful what I take on - it feels a bit like your scuba diving example. :)

    1. Whenever I feel overwhelmed by the weight of things, I often think of that scuba diving, not only the heaviness of the weights but the heaviness of all that water around me. I know people love scuba diving but that was my one and only experience!
I would post every day if I had the time and energy, I always have so much I want to write about! :-)

  6. This is one of my favorite songs! Kay, a time will come when you have more time. I felt the same way before my situation caused early unemployment. Now I have more time and less money so it is an adjustment. The landslide brought me down. Thanks for your comments about Madison. I have added the mountains and monastery near you to my "places to see" list. Thanks for telling us about them. Jackie

    1. Hey Jackie! You MUST let me know if you are in this area, okay? Glad you like LANDSLIDE too! You know, I knew that Stevie Nicks did the great vocals on that song but I only just read that she WROTE the song, isn't that great?
      Thanks for your comment! :-)

    2. I think I remember hearing she wrote it about her father but I thought maybe it was about Lindsey. No worries - I promise to let you know when I head your direction! Hope work is better to you next week. Take good care of yourself. Jackie

  7. Hi Kay,
Sometimes it can seem more like work than pleasure occasionally which is why I just post once a week as if I write a long descriptive blog post it can take me hours to stitch it all together and sort out the best photos.
Also if you are very popular with loads of comments you feel obliged to comment and look at other blogs in return which can take up a huge amount of time as well when you get dozens of comments. An entire night can go back just doing that.
It's a natural feeling if you are also very busy at work as sometimes you just want to relax but I'm sure it will pass, even if you take a short break. Cheer up! Just like online 'crack cocaine' you'll be back for more once the internet withdrawal pangs become too much :o)

    1. Honestly, my posts are so short and simple you would never believe how much time they take for me to do them!
Thanks for your kind words of encouragement, Bob! :-)

  8. Dear Kay, I am truly sorry that you have been so exhausted lately, and I hope this will stop and you will soon be well rested. This weekend on one of your beloved mountains should help greatly! And music, music, music!

  9. Sorry that life has been exhausting for you lately. I agree with others here - enjoy your weekend outdoors and your mountains. Don't worry about the blog - take a break (officially) if you need to. Everyone will understand and we'll all still be around. Your photos are so very lovely. Remember my mantra for this year - 'just breathe'! And go listen to Jonny Diaz's song 'Breathe' on Youtube. It will help - promise!

  11. I am sorry that you have had so much going on lately that you are exhausted all the time. That is not a good thing. I would tap-tap-tap on your shoulder and tel you to relax and enjoy your life a bit and give over some of the stress if that is possible. xo Diana

  13. It would certainly be annoying to climb a mountain only to have someone tap you on the shoulder and tell you that you have to climb a different one you don't like! I can't say that has happened to me, at least not physically. There have been a few times where I'm in the middle of doing something I enjoy when something I don't has come along and ruined it all.

    1. I have never met a mountain I didn't like! You have been enjoying something and someone comes along and ruins it? Then, you know what I mean!

  14. Hi Kay :)

I understand that tapping very well. I hope things slow down for you.

    I love that song! :)

    Thank you for your visit!

  17. I don't think I would like scuba diving either but I have loved the freedom of snorkelling, learning to dive down three or four metres and then, after returning to the surface, blasting the water out of the snorkel tube. Next time someone taps you on the shoulder, tell them to take a hike.

    1. Tell them to take a hike, I love that!
FREEDOM of snorkeling, that is just it, isn't it? You are dependent on your oxygen tank while scuba diving, but snorkeling, you are never far from breathing your own air. Gee, I really do like to breathe, I am funny that way!
Thanks very much for your comment here! Have a great weekend!

  18. Sorry you are exhausted Kay. Take a break - shut the door on work and take a gentle walk up our mountain. Wish I could come with you
for real but for now virtual will have to do. I shall be "resting" on Sunday. I am going into hospital for a total knee replacement. Hooray - should be skipping up the mountain within a short time!!
Take care you. God Bless. x

    1. Hey!
Lovely to see your comment here, my friend!
Take GREAT care of yourself! I am hoping for a speedy recovery for you after your knee replacement. You will have to be able to skip around when your pretty daughter starts giving you grand kids one day, right?
      God bless you!!
OH! Just saw where the British Museum is giving a loan of some of the Lewis Chessmen to the Isle of Lewis, is that something that is a big deal on the news over there?

  19. Kay I will join many of your other commenters in saying that there is no point in doing something that is a chore. No one wants to see you leave Blogland. So may I suggest (and again I'm not alone) in suggesting that you simply blog less frequently or just when you can. I blog far less frequently than I used to for exactly the same reason. Now people understand and life is much more satisfactory.

    1. Thanks, Graham! I am so tired these days that I don't think I really expressed myself so very well. I love to write posts on my blog and to read other blogs and leave my oh-so-important comments! My blog does not seem like a chore to me, just very frustrated that I can't do it because I can't get my thoughts together!
It does take a lot of creative energy, energy I don't seem to have these days.
For example, today was very, very busy at work and before I looked at this blog, I just came home and sat in a chair and looked at my birds at the bird feeder. It felt so nice just to be still and quiet!

  20. Take time for you, Kay. I understand how difficult it is to feel inspired to write all the time, and you post very frequently. Just do what you can and enjoy the process. There are times when I too feel like blogging is a chore, and I have to dig deep to write a post. But my solution is to remove all mental schedules and demands I place on myself, and simply get to it when I can. So take time for you, and just do what you can. We'll all be here waiting to read your great blog posts, even if you take a little break.
