November Leaves

Love the colors of Autumn!  The photos above are from the past three years.  I marvel at the many colors of leaves in my own yard...when I rake them, I like to choose some and place them in artistic arrangements around my front door.  Doesn't everyone?
In Georgia, our leaves peak the first week of November.

We went to Stone Mountain last weekend and it was beautiful!
That truly deserves its own post, so stay tuned!
Today is Veterans Day, so I am thinking of my Dad, a veteran who served just after World War II.  I spoke with him today and he told me that one of his neighbors stopped by to visit, just to say, "thank you".
I really like that.
Thankfully, the wind changed direction today and the air cleared and it no longer has the acrid smell of smoke! I am so very grateful.

  4. So much beauty! If we had leaves that changed, i'd want to decorate with them. Down here in the swamps, if a tree is going to lose its leaves, they usually just turn brown.

    1. I lived in South Georgia when I was a teenager and I was vey surprised that the leaves didn't change color, they just turned brown and fell off the trees! I would miss the colors of Autumn leaves if I didn't have them!

  6. I love the color this time of year. Some of our trees are bare now, but thankfully some color remains. A big thank you to your dad and all our veterans!

    1. This Autumn has been very strange, so dry it is almost like being in a desert but with trees!

    1. Oh yes, and he also had two older brothers that were in World War II. His first job was pouring concrete for sidewalks at the camp in Toccoa, the same one that was used in paratrooper training for the "Band of Brothers"!

  8. So few of our trees have changed colors yet. Yours are beautiful.
Because of the wind direction they say we're going to get some of your smoke today.

    1. I sincerely hope that you do not get that smoke from the forest fires! They should completely ban any outdoor burning statewide, it only makes sense!!

  9. Glorious color! I'm so glad you get to celebrate this, and your Father's service, and the end of the smoke...And I appreciate also the nod to the late Leonard Cohen...What a treasure we lost there.

    1. This Autumn might not be as colorful as in years past, but even if the colors are a bit muted, they are still beautiful and amazing to behold!

  12. It has been one of the most spectacular autums that I can remember. It's lovely to see the colours on your side of The Pond too.

  14. Our leaves are done and mostly gone and it was in the 20's this morning! Yours are beautiful and my brother who just moved to McDonough is probably enjoying this late time color. In Chicago, where we grew up and he just left, the color is gone by now too. Love the pic of you and your hubby...too cute! Have a good week! Thanks to your Dad too for serving!

    1. Oh! Your brother will be just ONE county over from me! You should tell him to visit Stone Mountain, Arabia Mountain and Panola Mountain!! (He will see me too, better not tell him that, LOL.)
Our leaves are still pretty but hard to see them today from all the smoke, so sad that the forest fires are still burning.

  15. What gorgeous pictures. I think our leaves are mostly gone now- preparing for the snow to wrap the branches instead. That was a great thing your dad's neighbor did for him. I bet it made his day. I am tickled you still have your dad in your life. I lost my own when I was 21. Hardly a day goes by that I don't think of him. xo Diana

    1. So glad to still have my Dad, he has really been my only parent since I was 14 years old.
I love the colorful leaves and really, because of the lack of rain this year, it looks as if the season has lasted longer than normal. Still hoping for rain though!!

  16. Those are some beautiful pictures. I can actually kind of understand why tourists would come to see the leaves change in some places. Sadly my garden is a bit of an overgrown mess. I'll actually be relying on winter to help us get a start on controlling it.
