Hello, my friends! Guess what? Richard and I will be going to my high school reunion next month! It should be fun. What year did I graduate? Why, 1975! That means the 40th! Our yearbook name was "Tempus Fugit" and since that is Latin for "time flies", we at least graduated from high school knowing at least one Latin phrase! (And it is true, time really does fly.)
Sad to say, many in our class have already passed away and I am sure that there will be fond remembrances of our friends who are no longer with us.
I remember almost all the words to our alma mater...if only everything could have been put to music, maybe I would have been a better student.
"High school life at best is passing
gliding swiftly by...
let us pledge in word and deed
our love for Rockdale High.
ALMA MATER, now and ever,
deep graven on each heart,
shall be found unwavering true when
we from life shall part."
Please take a minute to look a the video I have here for you! It is an ad for Southwest Airlines and shows a woman going to her 20th reunion. Hey, I might not look like her but I will have the same attitude. You gotta just smile and charge ahead through whatever!

Just got word of my 50th in August. Hugh, and I mean hugh, senior class. 1,154 students graduated that day. More than a few died in Vietnam, more than a few since. I did not know many intimately then, I will not be going to see the rest now. But, it sure is a long time to remember........
ReplyDeleteWow, that is a lot of students! It is a personal decision whether or not to attend a reunion but your 50th sounds special. Why not go if you can? :-)
DeletePeace!
I hope you have a wonderful time. I have some very mixed memories of my school years and refused to attend mine. I love hearing that someone else is excited about it though...
ReplyDeleteThank you! I can't say I have any great memories of high school but we were all in high school at the same time and it would be fun to see old friends and acquaintances. :-)
DeleteSchool re-unions aren't as popular in the UK but four of us who met up at the age of eleven still see each other every now and then. 2014 was our 55th year of being friends but we don't know what hspprened to anyone else.
ReplyDelete55 years of being friends should be celebrated! I think that those in charge of the reunion have found to hard to find a lot of classmates, so many of them have moved away.
DeleteWe had our 20th in 2007, and it was great! None of our class mates had passed away yet by then, but while talking to them, I was sad to learn how many of them already have lost one or both their parents. All the more reason for me to be so happy about both my Mum and Dad still being around!
ReplyDeleteOn a smaller scale, some of my class mates still meet up a few times a year, and if I have time, I join them. It's always a lot of fun, but of course after having met them several times now since then, it is not as exciting anymore as it was in 2007.
We have lost a great many of our classmates. All the more reason to attend my reunion, I think, to honor them!
DeleteI hope you could see the video that I have here for you of the pretty woman attending her 20th!
I did, Kay .-)
DeleteI am glad you were able to view the video. I bet you looked even BETTER at your 20th! I am certain of it! Here comes the marvelous Meike!
DeleteMy fiftieth would have been this year. I was unable to attend any of the others because I lived so far away but I would have gone this year. Sadly no one organized one. Including me.
ReplyDeleteWhy not organize one next year, for your 51st? No law against it, you know!
DeleteIt is my job in life to have great ideas. It is up to you if you listen! LOL!
Let me know, I love it when people do what I tell them...I mean ADVISE them to do! :-)
You've made me want to go through my old yearbooks now. Hope you enjoy your reunion !
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I just thought of my photos in the yearbooks from high school...NOT something I care to see again! :-)
DeleteOur 50th was last fall, but it was in California and we didn't go. They had a special reunion in 2000 for the millennium. It was fun and depressing. A friend sent us pics taken at the 50th I didn't recognize anyone.
ReplyDeleteFun and depressing, hmmm.... bittersweet , I suppose. And no matter how much people might have changed, they should be grateful that they are still around and able to attend a reunion!
DeleteHave a wonderful time, Kay! I had my 50th reunion a few years ago. Time does fly, indeed. Do you have many friends from your class that are still friends....I am still close to the girls who were my friends in high school and we got together recently for a lunch when they were all in town.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do still have a few friends from high school! And sometimes, I will meet up with someone and I am grateful that they remember me from high school with fondness!
DeleteI went to my 50th class reunion last year and it was a lot of fun. Enjoy yours!
ReplyDeleteI have to say the thought of a reunion fills me with horror unless I could be there invisible! Don't know if you've had a chance to read my latest post but there's a little mention of you on it :)
ReplyDeleteInvisible! HA! That is about how I was in high school so I am glad when anyone even remembers me!
DeleteYES! You are so kind to think of me when you heard those beautiful bells ringing from York Minster. You are correct, I would love to hear them. xx
That sounds like fun! I bet you'll have a great time.
ReplyDeleteDear Martha!
DeleteCome on down to Georgia and sneak in with me, I will tell them you are the photographer! Still thinking of your photos from Cuba, still dreaming of those beaches! xx
Reunions are so bittersweet! It's going to be fun for you, though, i know it is.
ReplyDeleteI hope it will be fun. If no one recognizes me, I will just say that I am there as part of the catering team!
DeleteI went to my 30th, but not the 40th - none of my friends were going. Isn't that funny that I got sucked right into high school ways? :)
ReplyDeleteHa, ha...yes, that sounds like high school! "But I can't go, NO ONE else is going!" :-)
DeleteKay, Put your black dress on and flip your hair and go. You look good girl. It's fun to catch up with everyone....life has a way of changing people...Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteHey Susie!
DeleteDon't you just love this commercial? So funny! I think it will be nice to see all those who will attend. I will let you know how it goes, stay tuned!
xxx
Good on you, I envy you your enthusiasm. Hope you have a great time at the reunion.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pauline! I have always been a bit...ahem, overly excited about things. Ask anyone! Still, it makes for a more enjoyable life!
DeleteI have enjoyed our reunions more as we get older. Have a wonderful time. My 50th will be coming up in two years. I never imagined being 50 years old, let alone being out of high school that long.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking that wisdom is going to come to me in my old age but it hasn't happened yet!
DeleteI went to a high school reunion once, back in the early 80s. I had a ball but I'll never go to one again. I was asked to go to another either last year or the year before, but I declined.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do enjoy yours, though, Kay...and I am sure that you will.
For me to go to one now means I have to travel further to attend...and my reclusive furry mates wouldn't like me being gone for so long! That's my excuse...don't tell them I've used them for my excuse!! ;)
I promise not to tell your furry friends that you are using them as an excuse not to go to your reunion! LOL!
DeleteThere are any number of reasons why people don't wish to attend their reunions and I respect that. Thanks for your well wishes, I will let you know how it goes! :-)
You look fabulous! Love the commercial..so funny! I graduated in '71 but didn't go to the last reunion. My hubby and I went to different high schools in different states so he doesn't really enjoy going to mine or me to his. My reunions have turned into a formal dance and golf outings..so not me! I hope you enjoy yours and I'm sure you'll wow all your old classmates!
ReplyDeleteThanks, YAYA! You are so sweet! Glad you liked this ad too, there are so few TV commercials that I like these days and I thought it went great with this post! Our reunion is NOT a formal outing and that is another reason that makes me want to go! ME wowing my classmates? HA! Not hardly, but it makes me giggle to think about it! :-)
DeleteI suspect you may have to block one of your correspondents?
ReplyDeleteIf my school had a reunion it would probably take place at the Prisoners Welfare!
How do you block someone? I don't know.
DeleteIf you can tell me, you will be my Scottish SuperHERO!!
HA HA on the reunion in the Prisoners Welfare, you do make me laugh and I thank you, I needed that after a hard day and coming home and finding unwelcome comments on my post.
If it became a problem turn on comment moderation.
DeleteIt is probably just a one off.
I was able to look at the info on comments, and it looked to me that was the only solution. I might just have to do that comment moderation.
DeleteThanks, Adullamite. You ARE my super hero! :-)
Oh, where does the time go to? My old school has never had a reunion, or if they have they've never invited me! I think I would have to go out of curiosity, if nothing else. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHey Joanne!
DeleteHappy to see your comment here! It should be fun, I will do a post about it, I am sure! :-)
I hope that you have a wonderful time!! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amy! Look out for a post about this in late August! xx
