Libera - Boy's Choir From South London

As I crochet, I like to watch TV.  However, it is much better for me to listen to the TV rather than watch it, otherwise, I make mistakes on my crochet work!  Tonight, I watched the local PBS station and really enjoyed a boy's choir from South London.  They are called Libera  and their voices are perfectly wonderful, they sound like angels.  I had never heard of this choir until tonight. Thank you, PBS! What would I do without you?

Still, still, still,
Let all the earth be still.
For Mary in her arms enfolding
Hope of all the world is holding.
Still, still, still,
Let all the earth be still.
Sing, sing,
Sweet angel voices sing.
While Jesus lies in manger dreaming
Seraph choirs from heaven are streaming.
Sing, sing, sing,
Sweet angel voices sing.
Light, light, light
Let all the earth be light.
The holy star its news ablazing
Sign of hope for nations raising.
Light, light, light,
Let all the earth be light.
Sleep, holy Jesus, sleep.

Here is someone modeling my work!  I had made this cap for my Dad last year but it was just a bit too small.  No worries, I told him, I could just add a bit to it! I took it home with me and crocheted a few more rows.  You can see he was pleased with it! Now, I am thinking that his dog, Bandy, is wondering what have I made for him?  Hmm...could there be a dog sweater in the works?  Why not, give me enough time and I will cover the WORLD with my crochet, imperfect as it is, I still love it.
(Reading this again...I meant that my crocheting is imperfect but you might take that to mean that the world is imperfect...never mind, I love the world too!)

Let me know if you know of the choir, Libera, and if not, what you think of them! I was very happy to hear them and happy to share this with all of you.

  1. Children's choir voices are so pure. This is a lovely video. You may crochet for me any time you feel the urge.

Ha! And if you looked closely at my crochet pieces, you might not be so keen but I appreciate the thought! :-)

  2. Doing some gift making while watching TV is something I've been intending to do but somehow by the time I finally sit down for the evening I'm too tired to get into it, but I've still got a few weeks left so it may not be to late. Glad you got enjoy that performance. I missed it.

    1. Boy, I sure know what you mean about being too tired! Now you know the name of this boy's choir - Liberia - you will know to look out for them!
And you know PBS might show this again before Christmas.

    1. My Dad usually wears baseball caps but he will wear this when it is really cold! And yes, he will be tickled to know that the dog shared the spotlight with him here!

  4. Never heard of them, it is my greatest hope to spend Christmas in England one year and attend Christmas services in a small English village.

    1. I spent one Christmas in England and what impressed me...the choirs that I heard singing on the streets in front of the shops and how perfectly they could all sing! And also, that Christmas presents were not considered so important, it was more about being with family and friends. Also, it lasted for the full 12 days of Christmas.

  6. I hadn't heard of them until now. There is nothing sweeter than an English boys' choir singing Christmas music. Unless it's the Choir of King's College ... which is of course all-male. :D

Your dad's hat looks great - very masculine, which is sometimes hard to achieve with crochet!

    1. Yay, glad you liked this too!
And I know what you mean about the crochet hats! I made a few and turned them into something else because I thought the color looked too sweet and feminine! I made another one...dark grey, trimmed in black for my nephew. I made another one for another nephew...just like the one I made for my Dad! Happy all these guys liked them and wear them! xx

  10. Very lovely voices....I know this song, but with different English words.......(it's an Austrian song, I believe.) And looking it up on the internet I found several versions of English but none the one I used to know.........Your Dad looks great!

    1. Yes, you are exactly right! I was going to mention that this tune is also an Austrian song, just like the Silent Night song that I posted about recently!
If you find the version that you know, let me know!

Those two most certainly have character, you can tell can't you? xx

  12. One of the girls I am acquainted with knits wool hats, gloves, and jumpers constantly for all her family... and what's worse... they have to wear them outside!
Luckily, my own mother didn't fancy knitting much, which was a big relief to her young son going to school :o)

    1. HA! I have a cartoon on my blog somewhere that shows a woman at the Pearly Gates wearing a bright red knitted Christmas jumper (sweater to Americans) and St. Peter is saying to her..."YOU may enter, but that sweater has to GO."!
Of course, anything that I make is perfectly wonderful...right. Daddy?...Daddy?....Hmm...maybe that hat is a dog toy just now! HA!

  13. They are a wonderful choir aren't they. They sing so beautifully and in their own style. They are well known to me, and I imagine well known in this country, but who knows! xx

    1. I read that their most recent CD was a huge bestseller in England!
And the choir director is Robert Prizeman and he wrote the theme song to "Songs of Praise"! That might not mean one thing to anyone else but I really do love that show! We have copied so many British TV shows, why can't we do an American version of that one? xx

  14. The choir is lovely, Kay ~ and I hadn't heard of them. The words are beautiful. I loved the photos of your dad and Bandy. Bandy needs a little free cap to match his coat! Happy crocheting!

    1. Thanks, Louise! I really spend more time making mistakes with my crochet than actually completing a work but I enjoy it anyway.
And I am glad to tell you about Libera, I think they are amazing.
HA! A little cap for Bandy, he would chew it up in no time flat! :-)
