Colour My World

Recently, I was at the toy department of a local store, and I absentmindedly played a few notes on a toy piano.  Instantly, I was transported back to 1970, and I marveled at how much that tiny piece of music could bring such pleasure. You know you are starved for live music when a toy piano can do that for you! What was the song? You can guess from the title of this blog. "Colour My World" was a hit for Chicago. They were well known for their big brass section of their songs, but this one was different, it truly is a very simple tune with just one verse. Honestly, I don't remember the vocal being so ... what is the word? Flat? Oh dear, I do dislike saying that. I read that the singer took his own life in the late 1970's. I think I must have sung along with such enthusiasm that the singer's lack of talent was lost on me. (I think he was really a guitarist.)  Anyway, here it is....

This was often used as a "slow dance" kind of song. They used to play it during the "couples" song at our local skating rink. My husband knows almost all the American music that I do but he didn't know this one. I do wish that someone young would cover it now. I did search for that but was unable to find one. You know I looked!

"Coat of Many Colors" performed by Dolly Parton at Glastonbury in 2014.  I wish I could find the video that I wanted to share with you of this but perhaps you can get an idea from what I I have given you here.  I think I have read that Dolly considered this her favorite song. I don't blame her; I would be most proud to have written this.

Color or colour! No matter how you spell it, I hope you notice it along with music and beauty and I hope you share it and treasure it always.

Our leaves are suddenly showing their true colors just now.

Hope you are all doing well, my friends. Thank you for coloring my world! I appreciate you, every single one.

  1. Lovely photos Kay and I enjoyed the music, especially Dolly’s Coat of Many Colors. I remember her talking about the coat her mother made her from different patches of clothing. It was very powerful and touching. Enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

  3. Not heard that Chicago tune before but I do remember the band. Like the pumpkins. We used to carve turnips here but pumpkins are far easier for youngsters to get involved in so Halloween here is now much more of an American copy. A full month of the shops selling every kind of costume yet the practice of going round to other folks houses in the same street that I remember myself, especially strangers, is largely gone. Folk that do go out with their children on Halloween here only go to prearranged addresses, family or friends as a lot of people will not open their doors now after dark. Including me. A different world. Around 25 years since any child knocked my door on Halloween but I'm happy with that :o)
