Two songs!
The first one is a small clip of a song that Dolly Parton sang with the David Hidalgo, the lead singer of Los Lobos. (Do you remember the great film "La Bamba" which was the true story about Ritchie Valens? Los Lobos performed the title track in that film and had a big hit with it.) I really love hearing them sing together! And he sings it in Spanish at the beginning; it is a nice touch. Just look at how sweet Dolly is with this singer who admitted that he was nervous to be working with her. After her passing, so many photos and videos of Dolly with other musicians and singers were posted on social media. I watched a good many. Such a talent, such a loss.
Now, this next video is a song written by Dolly Parton, "In The Light of a Clear Blue Morning". It is sung by the United States Naval Academy Glee Club, and the performance was during the pandemic of 2020. (In case you are wondering about the spaces between them.) As I was watching it, I thought to myself that it was a shame that they couldn't be outside. What do you think? As soon as I thought that someone walks to the great big doors and opens them, and they all march out into the clear blue morning! Love it when the world does what I want it to!
Let me know if you can see both of these videos!
We had a bad storm this past Saturday and it knocked out our electricity at 7 PM. The power was restored by 12:30 the next day, just in time for lunch! Thank goodness. Since we didn't know how long it would be out, we did not open our fridge one single time. (That is what you are advised to do.) Sure enough, everything inside was perfectly fine. It did get hot in our house, but it was bearable. We just had our TV and computer restored today. (Wednesday). We were able to use our cell phones, but we did not have Wi-Fi until today. (Thank you, A T & T guy! Hope you liked our homemade blueberry muffin with blueberries from our own garden!) However, I notice that I am not able to add photos on this blog post for you! So, hopefully, I will be able to figure that out. (Wait, maybe I can get one on here!)
Thanks for the sweet concern about my poison ivy! It looks as if it is all cleared up. I am just a wit bit wonky after the medications, but nothing that I can't handle.
Take care everyone! Hope all is working in your part of the world.

I could see both videos. I think Dolly was as sweet and down to earth as she was talented.
ReplyDeleteGlad the poison ivy is clearing up!
Yes! Sweet and diwn to earth, wish everyone in the world could be the same, don't you?
DeleteDolly Parton was very talented and generous.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting The Christian Lounge. Please invite your friends there too.
God bless.
Thank you, I will!
DeleteGod bless you.
DeleteI liked Dolly too. I have never had poison ivy, and I don't want it - sounds rough.
ReplyDeleteWell, I didn't enjoy it for sure!
DeleteDear Dolly, I can read this easily. I hope the post sticks. Others have posted also.
ReplyDeleteThere is something up with my blog, I hope it sorts itself out. I know how much you like Richard's photos! And we can think that I am a cousin of Dolly's, I could be, I think, my kinfolk aren't too far away from hers.
DeleteAlso, your blog did not come up on my Reading List. I just looked at your latest blog post when I left that message to you. This might have something to do with our power being out and our computer down for 4 days. Not sure! Wish me luck!
DeleteWell the videos work, and you posted OK. Sometimes things take a while to reajust. But this seems to be taking too long. I am not sure how to help here.
DeleteThanks, it seems everything is messing up these days. I need patience, something I have in short supply. LOL.
DeleteBeautiful music, dear Kay! Thank you so much for sharing. Blogger hasn't shown any new post for over 2 days now in its feeder/reader.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are doing well, I just came by to visit you and found your post.
Have a lovely weekend ahead!
Thanks for telling me that, Linda! I thought it had to do with our power loss but that might just be a coincidence. Thanks for visiting me, hope you have a great weekend!
DeleteThese are such good videos...I can watch them. I'm sorry you've had poison ivy. I've had a bad heat rash all summer and I am SO tired of it! Wish it would completely go away! It's always something! lol Hugs!
ReplyDeleteGlad you can see the videos! I am glad I went to the doctor about my poison ivy, he was very concerned. Perhaps you should go to doctor about your rash? Please do, better safe than sorry! Thanks very much for your visit, you have a lovely blog.
DeleteDolly Parton was great.
ReplyDeleteSurely we can all agree on that.
DeleteThank you so much for posting this, Kay. I loved seeing Dolly Parton. She really was one of a wonderful kind. But I really enjoyed seeing the Naval Academy cadets. I had to show it to Art. He was in the Public Health Service so their uniforms were the same. The only difference was the insignia on their caps. I’m glad your weather is improving. Our poor communities on Kauai are still suffering, but my family on Oahu did not get hit as badly on Oahu.
ReplyDeleteHow handsome are these uniforms? And all those dear young people singing? I am so pleased that you learned from me how Art''s uniform is nearly identical! Bet Art looked very handsome in it too! Glad you are okay on your island. My best friend's son lives on Kauai, he's okay but as you know, not everyone was so lucky. Take care and continue to be like Dolly! Wish everyone would. Aloha!
ReplyDeleteWonderful to hear these videos Kay, thank you very much. Dear Dolly and I used to enjoy listening to Los Lobos too. My hubby was a graduate of the naval academy, and we had friends who were teachers there years later. We went back and forth often over the years, the last time being about a year ago just for a ride around the grounds when we were in Annapolis. I'm glad you are over your poison ivy episode. I've heard about not opening the fridge door during blackouts, but fortunately and touching wood as I speak, have not had any that lasted more than a few minutes. Wishing you a happy weekend and thanks for another lovely post.
ReplyDeleteOh! Then you must dearly love this video of these gorgeous young men and women!! I didn't mention it but the church where they were performing was so beautiful and then, the grounds outside were stunning! Electricity is marvelous! It made me think my Daddy, he went away to the Army in 1945 and then, when he came home 2 years later, they had electricity in his home. All the time he grew up, it was all fires and kerosene lamps. Thanks, Denise for your sweet comment. xx
DeleteI did indeed Kay, and I also remember going to a performance by the Masqueraders of The Caine Mutiny. Going back a lot of years here. We were invited by friends who were teaching at the academy and it was memorable. A coincidence yesterday cleaning out some boxes in our garage, a copy of The Caine Mutiny fell out. Took me right back to this night. Thank you for sharing those sweet memories of your father. That must have been really something getting electricity for the first time. My father-in-law used to tell similar stories of his life on a farm in North Dakota. Have a wonderful day and week. I always enjoy my visits here. xx
DeleteThanks very much for telling me about your memories from the Academy! See, I have never been there but I love that one of my sweet blogging friends has such wonderful memories of it! My Dad passed away in 2019, I still miss him so much. He was a true "country" boy, born and bred, tough as anything but loved children, animals, flowers and music. And sports! He was interested in all that life gave him and grateful for it all.
DeleteHello Kay, your post still has not showed up on my reading list on blogger, but since you let me know about it, I found it anyway.
ReplyDeleteGlad to know things are back to normal now. When I had problems with the electricity in my house for a while two years or so ago (it was old, faulty lines in our two semis, nothing to do with a storm), I luckily still had power in one half of my flat and was able to make myself a cup of coffee after I had moved the coffee machine from the kitchen to the living room. Otherwise, it would have been a coffee-less few days - nothing too serious!
I don't know, being without coffee is pretty serious to me! That was nice how that worked for you when you lost power. I am a bit concerned about not seeing my blig feed, and also not able to load photos onto a post. Maybe someone else has these problems and Blogger will correct this. Hope so!

DeleteHello Kay :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your first visit to my blog.:) I enjoyed listening to Dolly Parton's songs. She sang beautifully and was a great lyricist..She was also known for her sweet nature and good business sense. She was so tallented that she could also act, and I have enjoyed seeing her in films. She brought joy to many people, myself included, and will be greatly missed..
All the best
Sonjia.
Thank you in lovely Portugal! Your photos are magnificent on your blog! Everyone should be like Dolly, I think so anyway- kind, sweet, but also intelligent with a practical nature. Thanks for your comment!
DeleteMiss Dolly was such a wonderful person, I'm glad she was so generous in sharing her great talents with the world.
ReplyDeleteFirst, Blogger wouldn't publish most comments. Then, for about 12 hours, I couldn't post a photo to my blog, either, unless I chose one already on a previously published blog. Now it's been almost five days since the blog reader updated. Methinks they have a wee bit of a problem on their hands, and are tearing their hair out trying to solve it, fixing one thing and causing something else.
Thanks very much for your comment. For me, it was all at the same time after our power was restored after a storm, and our internet was out for days so I thought that had something to do with it. Obviously not! I do hope it gets sorted. I miss seeing blogs posted by my friends!
DeleteOddly enough, your blog posts popped up on my blog feed, but only yours!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely clip of Dolly Parton and David Hidalgo -- so real and heartwarming! I'm home now from my last road trip and back to daily blogging!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you liked that too! Did you know for many that the feed is not working on Blogger? I don't know when new posts come out from my blogging friends! Glad you are back, Debra!
DeleteThank you for sharing these two wonderful videos.
ReplyDeleteSorry to read about your bad storm!
Yes, blogger has not been updating reading lists/posts etc recently ... hopefully normal service will be resumed soon.
All the best Jan
Thanks, Jan! Glad you enjoyed them too! I do hope Blogger will sort out the problems soon. My blog and my friend's blogs are important to me!
DeleteHi, Kay! I know storms all too well. Here in the Hawaii area, thirty hurricanes are in the forecast this year. So far, no major damage to our house. Sorry you had no power. What a nuisance!
ReplyDeleteI thought of you when we went out and bought Spam! Guess what, I really like it. People make fun of it but it is something you don't need to cook. I know it's popular in Hawaii for that reason. Hope all those storms blow past you! Take care. xx
DeleteThe Dolly Parton duet is beautiful. She will be missed.
ReplyDeleteAmalia
xo
So glad you liked that too. I want to start a t shirt business selling shirts that say "Be like Dolly". The world needs more like her. x
DeleteNot exactly the type of music I would seek out myself but I did like both videos. I remember the first time I watched Dolly Parton on TV here and she was very young in it with a much stronger rural accent than in her later years. My Mum bought the album with Lady Mule Skinner on it and much yodelling. I wasn't keen on that, Nana Mouskouri, or Demis Russos, her three favourite LP''s. Even now any Dolly videos I have got... 3 songs in total... are duets with you know who :o)
ReplyDeleteHey! Dolly's accent might have softened a bit over the years but she still had her Southern accent! I am glad you liked both videos. I think you might secretly love yodeling. LOL!
Delete\Both videos worked. I was able to enjoy both of them.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am glad! Is the feed now working on your blog? I hope so, mine seems to be coming back.
DeleteBoth videos were wonderful but the second was like a hymn and Dolly was talented and sweet. She is missed! Thanks for sharing this. I'm glad your power came back so quick. We've had our fair share of outages and I really hate when it happens as we are an all electric house and with a well we don't get water when the power goes out. You think we'd get smart and get a generator!
ReplyDeleteAs time goes on, I wonder if we all should get a generator! What with this crazy weather! You are right, the second song which was written by Dolly is very much like a hymn. I love it. Take care Yaya, and hope you always keep your electricity! xx
