After my last post, you all must have been wondering what in the world is Kay going on and on about now? I am not sure that many find the news from England as interesting as I do and even if I do, when I am not feeling very well, my brain doesn't work properly and therefore, I can't convey my thoughts very well. I hope I didn't offend anyone. I was reminded of being a teenager and hearing those words spoken if someone might have said the very slightest thing that might be considered off color or off limits. "No offense" and the response was always the same, "None taken". Sigh, I do miss a lot about those times so long ago. It seemed that courtesy was still alive and also, brevity of words. I miss them both.
A few things that have given me a reason to smile lately.... Paul McCartney is currently touring in the USA! Now, I didn't see him here in concert in Atlanta, but I know some folks who did! They said he was great; he performed for 2 hours and 45 minutes, isn't that awesome? He ended the show with "Golden Slumbers", a nice touch.
Did you see that they opened a new museum in Egypt? It is the "Grand Egyptian Museum" and it opened on Nov. 1st. The museum looks amazing but what made me smile, was the image that I saw of the Danish Foreign Minister giving the Egyptian Foreign Minister a gift- it was a LEGO set of the Great Pyramid! The delight and joy on that man's face when he received this gift! I love that so much, let me see if I can link to it.... you may see it just here!
November is with us now and our leaves are having some nice color. Want to see?
The dogwood is a native tree, and, in the Autumn, the leaves are a pretty red and the berries are loved by the birds.
Hey, I was trying to hide in this tree, but Richard got me anyway! I was really trying to use my plant app to help me identify it. I thought it was either a black tupelo or a sourwood. Well, guess what- the dang app said the same thing! No matter if black tupelo or sourwood, it is a lovely color and is even prettier than the photo. Honest, it is.
These photos were just taken today, November 5th. As you can see, many of the trees still have a lot of green so, we will shall see more color.
Happy November to you all!
"Money for Nothing", a favorite of our son's. Richard used to use the Bert puppet to entertain our son with this song when Christopher was just 2 or 3 years old! (Bert, you know from Bert and Ernie fame!) I think he would have Bert dance around to it and it must have been quite elaborate as Christopher has such memories of it! He is lucky to have such a talented father. It's the little things, isn't it?
Take care everyone!
I miss the good ole days too. There is something to be said about them. I used to love Paul McCartney! lol Three hours is awesome! And I love that huge tree you have that just spreads its branches outward as to protect!
ReplyDeleteAh, that big tree is a chestnut tree at the Monastery, so it is fitting that the branches are looking as if they are there for protection. And I will always love Paul McCartney!
DeleteI love ❤️ to reminisce about the good old days!!! I have always loved The Beatles and Sir Paul McCartney had always been my favourite...even when he was in the Wings band.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, Kay.
Yes! I saw him with Wings on his Band on the Run tour. It was wonderful.
DeleteYes, the CBC had that news clip about the Grand Egyptian Museum opening and the LEGO gift -- I agree, so delightful!
ReplyDeleteI loved it so much! Glad that link worked, especially if folks hadn't seen it yet. We are a Lego household! Our son was a huge Lego guy, still is. So is Richard.
DeleteI suppose everyone older has the same thoughts in a fast changing world. I still like using cash to pay for things, I like real High Street banks instead of everything going online, I like quiet reflective travel on buses ( instead of endless smart phone chatter nowadays on every journey) and I dislike bad driving or manners. Large SUV's seem to think they own the road. The roads are not getting any wider but the cars certainly are in many cases and I've had several near misses with 4 by 4s that thought 'going off road' was getting their tyres dirty off the tarmac so I had to be the one swerving into a ditch..... and on and on it goes.... rant, grumble, moan :o)......hope you are feeling better with the autumn colours on show.
ReplyDeleteYou should drive here, its like a racetrack with big trucks and SUV'S running you off the roads. Lots of times they are texting or eating. I am better now, thank you! Just looked at your Church Explorer blog. Wow, so interesting, so much for me to look up...ancient yew trees, the Hay Poinsoner and William Seward, first Methodist martyr. Fascinating.
DeleteHaha, I must not be too well yet, I replied to Billy Blue eyes instead of Blue Sky Scotland!! LOL Hey, you both use the word "blue" in my defense.
DeleteStill, it might make you look those things up too! Wonder if you had heard of any of them?
DeleteThe colors are quite beautiful. I hope you have a fabulous week.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mimi! You too!
DeleteYou know how much I love autumn colours - thank you for sharing yours! And thank you for sharing that story about the new museum in Egypt; I had not heard about it, and the look on the Foreign Minister's face is just priceless!!
ReplyDeleteIf you look up the details of the new museum, it sounds fascinating!
DeleteBeautiful pictures !
ReplyDeleteFall is a colorful season !
Have a shinny day !
Anna
Hope you have a lovely, colorful season!
DeleteYou have more color there than we do. Our trees are all still green. Enjoy these lovely fall days!
ReplyDeleteIt seems very green here too. Peak leaves here are supposed to be Nov.4th. Think its later this year.
DeleteNow what guy would not want to be given a huge Lego gift. I never had Lego as a kid, I had Meccano and used to be really jealous of my friend who had some. I bought my kids loads so I could play with it. Still do on occasion.. Did not realise Sir Paul was over there. I watched Mick Feelwood and Friends on Sky arts the other night, it was awesome seeing all the people who thought so much of him. Mich Feetwood was playing drums and I clocked a young drummer with him. A the end he was introduced Zac Starkey, chip of the old block there. One thing I did not realise was that Zac has the same birthday as me
ReplyDeleteOur son got us tickets to see Ringo in Nashville in 2023. Awesome gift! Hey, I told you that looked at your Church Explorer blog but I said this in reply to Bob at Blue Sky Scotland above! What am I like? Not 100% yet, I suppose!
DeleteI saw the comment you wrote, sound like your as bad as I am sometimes. Type in 1000 Lakes Rally on YouTube, loads come up along with historic from the 1970s and the Group B cars, bit like F1 on Gravel
DeleteMy grandmother was born in Denmark. That is a fun, imaginative gift between countries.
ReplyDeleteOh! I watched a series set in Denmark. I loved seeing that! "Sommerdahl", I think it was. It was in Danish, so had to pay attention to captions to know what was going on.
DeleteKay, I've been watching "Sommerdahl" too, it's a good series, isn't it, although I was really sorry when the husband and wife team split up.
DeleteOh, so glad you liked it too! You wouldn't have to struggle like I did with the language. It sounded very much like German to me sometines!
DeleteI really enjoyed this post, Kay. Your reflections on kindness and the simpler courtesy of earlier days are lovely, and those little moments of joy, a concert, a thoughtful gift, autumn leaves, remind us how much beauty there still is in the world.
ReplyDeleteThank you! We need to look for beauty and joy every day, I believe. Hope you are well. Thanks very much for your comment!
DeleteThe trees are beautiful. I like the photo of you with an Fall hairdo.
ReplyDeleteHaha, my hair could use some help!
DeleteHow beautiful Autumn colour is. It's kind of a blaze of glory before the quiet of winter isn't it.
ReplyDeleteYes, the colors amaze me every year. Our beech trees hang on to their coppery leaves all winter and it's wonderful to hear them rustling in the winter winds!
DeleteI enjoyed your pictures of the fall colors in Georgia. I've also been out while the weather is still nice trying to capture the colors around here. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
ReplyDeleteEd! So lovely to see your comment here! I love the colorful leaves, Always amazes me, I'm so old now, but still a kid at heart. And next time you go to Cooperstown, take me with you! ⚾️
DeleteGood concert for Sir Paul! I loved him in my teen years and would love to go to a concert to see him now. I did see the Beatles in concert when I was 11 at Soldier Field in Chicago. Long time ago! The last time I spied Ringo (whose last name is Starkey, like me!) it wasn't on Tiger Beat mag...it was AARP! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteYes, but like Sir Paul, he is still very active and going strong! Lucky you to have seen the Beatles. I love the song "The Long and Winding Road" but it reminds me of when they split up so it is too sad. Tiger Beat magazine, oh boy, I remember that! LOL!
DeleteWe did go to the Egyptian Museum many, many, many years ago and it was very interesting. How cool that they have a new one.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that Paul McCartney is still able to perform.
The info from my source told me "He's still got it!". Ah, so grateful he came to Atlanta. Many artists bypass us now, maybe they don't want to get stuck in traffic.Hope you saw the photo I shared of the man getting that Lego gift. Pure joy!
DeleteLegos....nice gift and so appropriate given the circumstances. You found some nice color. Many of our leaves are down and raked or mulched so not much color. Our weather was a bit extreme this year and the news casters pretty much said we might not have much fall color. They weren't wrong. I've been enjoying visiting everyone on my blog list to catch up, as I've not blogged in a good number of months. It feels good to get back into it.
ReplyDeleteSandy's Space
Our autumn color seemed late this year. Our golden hickory trees were spectacular. And the oaks and maples in the grocery store parking lots were gorgeous too. Guess you see where I travel the most. LOL. Glad you are back blogging! Keep on keeping on!
DeleteYor trees reflect sunshine, ours reflect rain! I love the Lego Pyramid!
ReplyDeleteHey! Guess what, it was 75 degrees yesterday, and this morning it was 33! Still sunny though, I love sunshine. That Lego Pyramid set was such a wonderful present. I loved that so much! Lego is always awesome!
