I wish we lived in a world where a person would find a butterfly with a broken wing and take it to an animal rescue center for help. Oh wait, we do! Hope you can see the video above!
I wish I could find a hidden treasure. Guess what, I did! I was going through some old CD's and saw one that I had never seen before. Richard had gotten it years ago. He either forgot to tell me about it or else, he did, and it was at Christmas time, and I was very busy. Whatever the reason, it was brand new to me. What a wonderful surprise it was to hear "Quality Street". a Christmas album from Nick Lowe. He is an English songwriter/musician/singer and even though the name sounded familiar, I had to look up some more of his music. (And yes, I do know Quality Street chocolates, you know I do!)
"What's So Funny about Peace, Love and Understanding"
This song was written by Nick Lowe, but Elvis Costello had a big hit with it in 1978/1979. Now, I found a video of Nick Lowe singing it himself and it is just lovely. (It seems like a totally different song when you hear it slowed down like this.) I hope you can listen to this video also.
Thanks to all who left comments on my last post about the passing of John Lodge. I mentioned in a reply to someone that so many left messages of how he personally connected with members of his audience, either from the stage or elsewhere. Richard just met a friend today who said she saw him in concert in Atlanta a few years ago and John Lodge had spoken to her son. Unforgettable, of course! Upsetting when our heroes die, I didn't mention Robert Redford or Jane Goodall, but I was sad to hear of their passing also. They were both nature and animal lovers and really, those two go hand in hand. Great kindness links them all together, in my mind.
Pumpkins everywhere just now, ready for Halloween. Richard took this photo last year in a local neighborhood. I don't think I shared it. Those jack o' lanterns would have terrified me as a kid. Not to mention Frankenstein and the skull at the door! Nowadays, I bet children just laugh at them.

ReplyDeleteYes, we could hear and see the video perfectly. But what were all those musicians doing wearing strange masks? It certainly gave the song a touch of halloween spookiness.

DeleteI wondered about that myself, so I looked it up. The backing band is called "Los Straitjackets" and when they first performed they did it in those masks to honor "Dia de los Muertos" in Mexican culture. They got a good response, so they have done that ever since. Like you, I find them scary. Guess I have not changed much since I was a child.
I do like the pumpkin pyramid, hope to bring some Halloween photos in the next week. Sad to hear of stars like that passing, I was sad to hear Diana Keaton died this week, I really liked her films
ReplyDeleteThe pumpkin pyramid was at Stone Mountain Park a few years back. They are not real pumpkins but they looked nice. You should look up Stone Mountain. It is a monadnock, a giant rock millions of years old. Just east of Atlanta, not in the mountains.It is beautiful with wildflowers that took me years to identify. Now, with the internet, it is so easy to identify flowers, trees, plants and birds!

Diane Keaton's recent passing affected my Mum a little bit in that a) she really liked her and b) she was two years younger than my Mum.
Bless your Mum, I know the feeling! Glad you could see the videos. And I was teased as a kid for being a "scared-ey cat". Do kids even say that anymore?
DeleteWhen I was a kid, we used to say "Angsthase, Pfeffernase" which of course rhymes in German but doesn't make much sense in English; it literally is "Fearbunny, peppernose".

DeleteHad not heard the Nick Lowe song before. Apt lyrics for the modern world. I don't remember ever carving a pumpkin. It wasn't a big thing here until the last 25 years ago and farmers didn't grow them. A lot easier than carving a hard turnip though for children to get involved in.

I was watching a Moody Blues concert on tv and googled to check when Ray Thomas died and was shocked to learn of Lodge's death. The Moody Blues were a favorite group of mine throughout my life (which was why I was watching the concert). I'm heading to read your post about him now. I hope that your weekend is going well. ❤️

What an amazing young lady to go that one step above and beyond. What a good heart she has and the tattoo she had done just about says it all. A lot of musical artists bring connections to their audience in many ways don't they, and long may they do so. The Halloween scene is impressive. DeleteHow wonderful that someone helped the butterfly with the broken wing, we hear so many terrible things these days, there's so much good in the world too. Halloween is becoming a big thing here in the UK now but when I was a child it wasn't really celebrated. Times change.
ReplyDeleteI just said that to Blue Sky above! It was surprising to be over there at end of October and not see any trick or treaters in the 80's. It's gotten a bit over the top here. Have you ever seen Charlie Brown and the gang on their Halloween TV show? That was what ir was like for my generation, go around with paper bags and all homemade costumes, usually a sheet over your head or a witch hat. Now, parents must spend a fortune on costumes! (Except Charlie Brown getting rocks in his bag was funny but that wouldn't have happened.)

DeleteThe videos came in loud and clear, and I loved the butterfly one! That's real love and dedication to take care of that sweet butterfly. I think the Halloween decorations are getting scarier every year. Remember when we were kids and having a carved pumpkin was about the only thing we did? Well, at least in my childhood! But I do love this time of year anyway!
