Hanging In There! 10 Years Today!

Can you believe it? Ten years ago today, I started writing this blog!

Yes, you can look back at my Aug. 21, 2011 post and if you do, you will see that I managed to delete that first post and then, had to just jot a few things down that I had written. So, I have a second post on that same day saying "STILL Aug. 21st!".   That was a foreshadowing of what was to come, I am always just a jumble of mistakes waiting to happen.  Still, one has to keep a sense of humor about these things, don't you think?

You don't have to laugh at life but I find that it is truly a help. It is for me anyway. And thinking of that, I am looking forward to a film that will be coming out soon..."Being The Ricardos" which is a movie about Lucille Ball and her husband, Desi Arnaz.  Did you watch "I Love Lucy" as you were growing up? I certainly did! Of course, the shows that I watched were not really from the 1960's but from the decade before.  I've read that the show has been syndicated in dozens of languages and is shown around the world. Isn't that something? Recently, we had the remains of a hurricane which was downgraded to a tropical storm but it still brought lots of rain. The storm was named "Fred".  I do wonder if anyone else looked at all that rain and said, "FRED, FRED, FRED, FRED, FRED!"  (From the "I Love Lucy" episode where little Ricky was learning the drums and was driving everyone crazy by beating the drum exactly five times and Ethel called out her husband's name in exact time with the beating of the drum!)  There...anybody else think of that? No, only me? What a nutcase I am!  The shows were quite brilliant and Lucille Ball had such perfect timing and all the actors worked as such a perfect ensemble, it was a pleasure to watch.  I do hope that they do a good job with the film about them! (Also, Nicole Kidman will be Lucille Ball in the film and I just know she will do a great job.  I can honestly say that I have loved in her in every film that I have seen of hers! And she really has made a great many!)

Two films, "Five Came Back" and "Beauty for the Asking" were from 1939 and both featured Lucille Ball. (1939, what a year for movies! If you are a film buff, you know what I mean!)  I watched both of these movies for the first time this year and I was very much impressed by the young Lucille Ball. Beautiful and so very good!

"Beauty for the Asking" is about Jean Russell (played by Lucille Ball) who invents a facial cream and...oh, I don't want to tell you anything else, just try to find it and watch it! Her character was not only beautiful but intelligent and kind.  I really enjoyed this!

"Five Came Back" is a film that is about a plane that crashes in a jungle and the repaired plane can only carry five passengers out. Once again, I thought Lucille Ball was wonderful in her role in this film too! (SPOILER: Lucille is one of those who make it out! Sorry, you knew she would, right?)

Both of these films were made by RKO Studios (and Lucille Ball had made many other movies at the same studio) and later, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz bought the studio!

Okay, I think I found the episode where Little Ricky was learning to play the drums!

And hey!  I know I don't post that much on my blog anymore but I keep hanging in there!  So, 10 years today!  Thanks for hanging with me!

A song for you?  You know I have one!  (And please tell me that you can instantly tell that is Lou Rauls singing in the background!)

  1. Happy Blogaversary, Kay!!! Isn’t it amazing how quickly time passes? I had a friend who moved to Israel encourage me to start a blog and told me how to do it 13 years ago. And now she’s stopped writing and I’m wondering what she’s up to.

  2. Firstly, congratulations on ten years of blogging. I started a few months before you. So good to persevere because we never imagined such events as 'lockdown' when chatting on the blog is our only way out into the world. I sure remember Lucille Ball (I even have a sister called Lucille). She was immensely popular and talented and I for one cannot wait to see Nicole Kidman playing her. Nicole has made many good movies too, and of course, she is one of our own. She has been living and working in Australia most of the past year, and why not?

    1. Why not, indeed? It just made me think when I said how much I like Nicole Kidman of how many films she has made and how many of them I have seen! What an amazing actress! Australia should be very proud! Try to check out that film about Lucille Ball where she invented the facial cream, it's not flashy or some kind of classic film, but a thoughtful, intelligent one. I loved her character!

  4. "They" say that I Love Lucy is showing somewhere in the world at all times. Happy Anniversary for your blog. Something else I'm sure you have already seen is that Don Everly just died. The Everly Brothers never made a bad song.

    1. No, I didn't know that. So sad, the Everly Brothers were such great singers! We will always have their voices on their songs. I don't understand what passes for music these days, I am truly astounded. Feel like I've stepped into a different planet sometimes...thanks for your well wishes!

  8. Happy 10 years of blogging! Yes, time does fly! I actually signed up with blogger in 2007 but didn't post anything until Feb. of 2008 because I wasn't sure how or what to do with it! I guess I figured it out and also went through trial and error...a lot! I always learn something from your blog and enjoy reading it. Yes, I also watched Lucy and Ricky and even today I catch it on TV along with Father Knows Best, My Three Sons, and of course we can't forget the Beaver! So thanks for the funny episode today and I hope you celebrated your blog milestone! Cheers and here's to many more blog years!

  9. Happy blogoversary, dear Kay! To this day I am glad that I persuaded you to start your own blog. You were convinced you had nothing to say - and now look at you and your many, many readers! Few blogs are as informative and entertaining at the same time as yours.
Lucille Ball? Yes, "I love Lucy" was shown here on German telly, too. My Mum and I sometimes watched an episode together. That was in the 1980s, when I was a teenager and everything from the 1950s was all the rage.

    1. Ha ha, yes YOU are the one to blame for these poor folks trying to figure out what I'm trying to say! :-)
Funny, now the 1980's are "retro"!
They play 1980's music at work ALL DAY LONG and I must say that there was great music from that time but it is as if they have found all the songs that I did NOT like then, the songs that when I heard them on the radio, I would switch the channel, and THOSE are the ones on this SERIUS channel that we must listen to! AHHHH!!!!

  10. Well done on ten years completed on your blog Kay. It does give you a sense of accomplishment and commitment given the hundreds of hours required to write them up. It's also a very good record/diary/visual memory aid as I have forgotten many of my earlier outdoor trips completely until I view them back again on the blog, many with friends I no longer see to the same extent. We have had recent flash flooding here as well so it's worldwide now.

    1. It's funny, there are times that I will think of something and will say...I wonder if I wrote about that on my blog, I will look it up! I search it and sure enough, there it is!
Not sure if you saw the flooding in Tennessee and New York over this past weekend. I think they said 21 died in Tennessee.
There was a concert in Central Park which was being televised on CNN (most of the music pretty dreadful if you ask me!) and Barry Manilow was stopped during his performance and the audience was told to seek shelter. Scary times. Climate change is real. Take care! Thanks for your comment! I love your blog!!

  11. Happy 10th Kay and yes I do remember I Love Lucy and many more similar shows. B&W shows are classics now. Thanks for the recent blog visit and comment on my wedding anniversary post, much appreciated. I have been blogging for over 10 years and still enjoy it as my only form of social media. My regret is not having enough time to read all blogs daily. There’s a lot of nice folks in blog land.

    1. Oh yes, you are so very right, lots of nice folks and you and your husband are two of them! I seem to have less and less time these days, I am still working and my job has become more stressful, wouldn't you know it! LOL! So, it is a wonderful comfort to be amongst friends in my blogging world. Take care and keep blogging! x

  13. Congratulations on 10 years of blogging, Kay! That I Love Lucy video was so funny. She was a brilliant comedienne. And the Sam Cooke song is so good. I hit 10 years in another year. I was so green I posted my first blog post and then couldn't find it for several months. I'm glad that you are still here when so many friends have left the blogging world. Love the frog. Take care, and happy weekend to you, my friend!

  16. Well I'm a bit late to the party but I've just been reading some posts that I've missed whilst I was away from Blogland.

I don't blog as often these days either but I sure miss it when I'm away.

I can't say that I watched "I Love Lucy" regularly but I do recall the programme which was shown here translated into English (just joking).
