This is such a pretty song, you are tempted to sing along but don't...listen to the video I have here for you. Please! It is the great grandchildren of the Von Trapp family singers. (Sound of Music fame, I hope you all know!) The song is "Edelweiss", the words are by Oscar Hammerstein II and the music by Richard Rodgers.
Now, isn't that incredibly, impossibly beautiful?
By the way, I really loved the book "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers" written by Maria Von Trapp herself! You should read it!
(Thanks to David G. in Kentucky who had this video on his Facebook!)
This is not an Edelweiss flower but a lily in my own back yard from June of this year. Peace to you all.
Peace to you, Kay, and to all your family! May you have the most joyful Christmas and New Year.
ReplyDeleteI love that recording of the Trapp Family great grandchildren singing. They have not lost their talents! I read several of Maria von Trapp's books in high school but my favorite was Around the Year with the Trapp Family Singers.
This was one of my Mom's favourite songs. She was of Swiss heritage too. We played it at her graveside service a couple of years ago and it was a perfect choice.
ReplyDeleteMy Mum and I love the old Trapp family films - everything about them, really. I didn't know the great-grandchildren sing publicly, too.
ReplyDeletePeace to you and your loved ones as well, dear Kay,
Christopher Plummer played Captain von Trapp. He sang the song so beautifully and with such feeling. Can you believe he hated that movie and will not refer to it by name?
ReplyDeleteThat really is a beautiful lily.
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely. Maria Von Trapp wrote at least 3 books that i read in high school, and i loved them all. Such an amazing family.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that version is beautiful, Kay - better than Plummer/Andrews et al, I'm afraid! Wishing you a Merry Christmas from A Bit About Britain!
ReplyDeletePeace be with you, too, Kay.
ReplyDeleteLovely song. One of the 30 or so songs I learned to play on the piano years ago and enjoyed playing it as it flows so well. A standard tune in most song books as it has a strong melody.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful Kay …
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Merry Christmas.
All the best Jan
I think it's interesting that the original von Trapp family singers didn't sing the kind of songs that are in The Sound of Music, including Edelweiss. The young family members have lovely voices, though, and I'm sure they bring a lot of joy.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
So beautiful! What a wonderful talent to share along with their famous roots.I hope you have a wonderful Christmas Kay!
ReplyDeleteA very Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones, Kay. I hope you all have a wonderful, happy time. Take good care. :)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Merry Christmas Kay. Blessings for a great new year too. xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteBeautiful music, beautiful flower.
