Where Did You Meet? (At A Bus Stop, Under An Umbrella?)

Recently, I said this to a couple  - "How did y'all meet?"
Smiling, they told us that they first met at a bus stop while it was raining and they had shared an umbrella.  This couple is from Armenia and they didn't know the song that instantly sprang to my mind. (I hope they will see it here now!) If you don't know the song, "Bus Stop" by the Hollies, which was a big hit in 1966, then I hope you will listen to it now!

The lead singer on that song was Allan Clarke and I just found the most wonderful interview with him!  It has so much background information about the songs from the Hollies. If you are interested, you may click on his name that I have below and you can read it too.

Allan Clarke

I knew that Graham Nash (you know, from Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young?) was with the Hollies in the early days but what I did not know was that Graham Nash had been good friends with Allan Clarke since they were school kids, when they were only six years old!  Oh goodness me, things like that just tickle me no end!

Richard was in England in December of last year and he took some photos from the pier in Eastbourne.  Isn't this beautiful? Richard and I actually met for the first time when I visited London in May of 1981.  I told him to meet me in the lobby of the hotel where my sister and I were staying.  Why didn't I think of some romantic spot, like on the steps of St. Paul's Cathedral or beside the Thames near the Houses of Parliament? I am just not the romantic type, I guess!  So, if you are married or have a romantic partner, how did you meet?  Do tell!

  3. At the laundromat! He'd seen me there before (though I hadn't noticed him) and finally got up the courage to talk to me. A year later we were married.

  4. I had friends who were from a Hungarian background and were starting a folk dance group. I loved their very ethnic Hungarian music and went to a rehearsal, actually several, and one day my future husband who was just back from working for a year in Munich, showed up...Magic!

  5. Oh dear... which one? Husband #1, #2, RJ or OK? I met Steve (my second husband) at a Star Trek chat room on the internet... those were the days (in the late 1990s) when chat rooms were still without avatars, and all you could do there was talk... you had no idea what people looked like, how old, young, chubby or slim they were, what colour their skin or waht their religion was - unless they chose to tell you. So, you talked to everyone just the same, which was a good thing!
Apart from myself and Steve, I know of at least three other couples who met at that chat room (it was called Klingon Great Hall!) and became married couples in real life.

    1. Oh yes, I remember very well that you met your English husband on a Star Trek chat room! I love that story! And to think that other couples met the same way, that is great. I am remembering I am still needing to do my post about Star Trek!!

  7. Oh my, that is a beautiful picture from the pier in Eastern. I met my husband on a blind date set up by one of my friends. We went to the circus. It was my first time to the circus and sadly the last also. Never got to go again, but I will never forget it.

    1. The older I get, the more I realize that not everybody instantly thinks of a song! My brain must be so stuffed with song lyrics that it can't remember hardly anything else. Merry Christmas to you!

  13. Well remember the song. Hubby and I met on a track at a high school football game. He was new to the school and was with a church friend of his, who was someone I was dating at the time...who lived behind me. We've celebrated our 46th anniversary this past June.

  14. It's always good to hear the Hollies. I want to say that Mrs Britain and I met at the East Finchley batter pudding hurling championships in 1853. Sadly, we didn't. But she's a wonderful probation officer.

  15. Jack was a blind date..set up by the girl that was our surgery receptionist and her hubby was a Chiropractic student with Jack. I hated blind dates and really didn't want to date a Chiropractor! (I had a bad date with one previously). Anyway, I caved in to her constant nagging me about it and the rest is history! This year will mark our 45th wedding anniversary. And they said it wouldn't last...ha! Have a very Merry Christmas!

    1. Lifelong friendship, that is nice. You know, opposites may attract but in my experience they don't stay together for long!
Hey! Glad you like that song too and I am sure you would have thought of it if someone mentioned meeting under an umbrella! Happy Christmas!
